this shit pisses me off. Cooking food for people like a cuck homosexual isn't masculine. Society really does act like chefs are the coolest people on earth. imagine telling one of these homosexuals to get back in the kitchen. lol.

I was going to say "neither is painting or designing things but the most famous painters and designers were masculine" but then I realized it was just pandering.

Everything creative is masculine. Feminine jobs are things like working in a nursery. You can't call cooking a feminine thing.

have you ever worked in a nice kitchen or a bar with prep? They got it pretty spot on. I worked with a chef who had previously been michelin starred and was a complete and total prick, until the restaurant he was currently running got sacked by bad reviews and shut down after 5 months, then he became humbled and chill. Read the article about Mission Chinese that came out a few summers ago. Theres some fricked up energy in a lot of big time kitchens that doesn't exist anywhere else.

At least this show has cooks with substance abuse problems. I was a cook for a few years - alcohol and weed were perfectly normal but I also saw a lot of people addicted to painkillers, even a few cooks who got fired for shooting up in the bathroom

      Anonymous

richie was selling coke in season 1 and there was that guy who was in the last episode and got caught smoking crack and immediately fired, but apart from that all the cooks are completely straight edge workaholics. nobody even drinks. I'm not against it to be honest, sure there are some junkies but its not everybody and in a small team of cooks its not uncommon for none of them to be addicts.
my favourite chef was a guy who had gotten clean from meth after losing his wife and kids, really nice guy. when i was starting out there was one cook who was actively using and dealing coke out of the kitchen, passing bags through the window and back door all day. he listened to nothing but 90s nu-metal and rap rock and was really annoying. for every guy like him theres about 5 alcoholics, 20 who smoke like chimneys, 10 who do things in moderation and 5 sober (in recovery mostly)

  38. 11 months ago

I worked in an upscale restaurant for nearly a decade and never called anybody chef. in the back of the house you have illegals, drug addicts, a few normal people and ex convicts. the executive chef, our boss, was never called chef. we used nicknames or somebody's first name.

sometimes a few of culinary school trained guys would do that and we'd make fun of them. most of those guys never lasted long because a kitchen is more like a pirate ship full of a bunch of foul mouthed buttholes.

      Anonymous

if you worked in more than one kitchen you'd know that they have different rules and cultures. some they call the chef chef, some they call everyone chef (came from the french laundry, a real restaurant that carmy canonically worked at), some you call nobody chef, and its not really dependant on the class of restaurant either. there are shitholes that say chef and there are michelin starred places that don't.

Internal or external? This season she had both, but based on the season finale she just doesn’t have what it takes to lead yet. I have a shit memory, but I can’t remember one time where she actually took control of a situation and handled it by herself. She has always needed a helping hand to bail her out of make or break situations

i want a gf like that. Those scenes where she's cooking with Carmy in his apartment had more intimacy and chemistry than anything with claire bear

the Claire character was so annoying with her dumb little quips

    >got memed into watching this because of this thread
    >episode 1
    >guy is having a heart attack over slow-roasting some beef
    >*sees an influx of customers*- "we need more bread" (bread is made by hand so would take several hours to rise and then bake)
convince me not to drop this here and now

very efficient use of staff time!

I only watched a few episodes but I feel like the only time I even saw them serve food was the hot dogs and xanax ecto cooler at the kid party. Plus why was the spanish lady making mashed potatoes?

I thought the first season was pretty good, was good that it solely focused on how hard it is to just run a shitty resturant and keep all that floating. While keeping charadcter moments at very brief but building said characters up more with them.

I'm a bit halfway through season 2 and it's been just okay, some episodes are good like the flashback one, but some are just disconbobulated with how spaced out events are, and how fast everything is moving. And just whats going on with the actual storyline is a little dumb, you don't just immediately open a new resturant while asking for even more money, it's just not how resturants work lmao.

Richie grew a lot this season. I remember watching s1 and constantly thinking
      >why aren't they firing this moron?
but now he's quality restaurant worker and a human bean

I didn't really like how he turns into a top tier maitre d' in a week after being such a screwup, but I guess they needed to fit it into the timeline. I guess he always had it in him and something just needed to click.

I mostly agree that the it was way too fast and implausible, but I think that Britta moving on by getting engaged to another man at such a crucial time for him could have given additional motivation

I thought it was just him embracing his need for control into something that actually worked. It's why he ended up running the kitchen at the end.
