Literally no way is Vivziepop's Hell the actual Hell. It feels like a reward if anything.
It's a reward for the really awful people, those who killed someone else for a reason other than self defence, they dealt drugs, ect. They'd expect a fiery inferno where they get tortured for the rest of all eternity but instead they get L.A. with your only risk of death occuring once a year.
It's a punishment for people that were good in life but just... didn't subscribe to the group of god worshippers or don't like L.A.
I think the energies of Hell eventually influences a person enough to make them give in to whatever sin got them there.
Even if you kill someone in self defense, you're going to revel in further wrathful activities.
That would actually be a pretty neat idea, not only giving an extra layer to Charlie's whole redemption plan, but also provide an explaination of if redemption is indeed possible, why hasn't a sinner ever seemingly done it before, or perhaps it can be revealed that it has actually been done, but until Charlie came around it was this extremely rare thing and never properly documented.
But nah, Charlie and the whole premise of the show is going to get sidelined for more Angel Dust and Alastor.

They'll have characters like Vox and Valentino actually be evil without any sympathetic qualities, but at the same time turn around and try and depict Angel Dust and probably even Alastor as noble people who are misunderstood and other such bullshit.
I can't wait for her to totally ruin what I like about Alastor, the dude is probably going to get at least a dozen excuses to why he's not actually evil.

The comic only has him kill a rapist or something after the dude also tells him off, but it can easily be reinterpreted as him just killing someone who annoyed him and he was already feeling pissy because Vox got under his skin right before that.

Here's the thing is that they're all bad in a human way. With the exception of Stella, and maybe Blitzo's dad and sister every character has some redeeming qualities and at least one person they generally care about. Even Crimson does care about Moxxie in his own way, and seemed to believe he had responsibilities to his underlings. He could be a human mob boss, and for the most part nothing would change.
Now this would be fine if everyone above Stolas and most of the demons coequal to him were almost pure evil, and set up a system that encouraged that for creatures that could be better. But based on how Viv portrayed Beelzebub as just furry Ke$ha I don't think that'll happen.
Beelezebub is literally using hellhounds and other hellborn as batteries to feed of their emotions, also she literally runs the hellhound slave camps, she is one of the most evil characters in the show.

I feel like it's more that character who are MEAN to the protagonists are cardboard cutout flat evil characters while the protagonists are given sympathy and depth, and the sympathy and depth part is good, but the BAD part is that they are then increasingly excused of all of their bad actions, because it turns out that they are actually the fault of the characters who were mean to them, who are just 100% evil and mean and really to blame for any of the flaws of bah behaviours of the protagonists, which then makes the situation boring. In reality, characters who are just 100% evil edgelords or 100% good and blameless and perfect are usually boring, which is why writers need to give even Superman the odd flaw or problem and why that shitty edgelord Batman Who Laughs character is such utter bullshit, an entire series or either or both of them at their flattest would be absolutely insufferable, good god.
The more HB turns the characters into either literal "did nothing wrong" or "just here to be a meanie towards the protags so they're blameless for no reason" the worse it gets also shut up Stolasgay.

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with theology. It's about creative effort. Heaven and hell are concepts that come pre packaged with ideas of power structures and hierarchys. If your basing a story with a wide scope in hell you need to explain how the frick things work. You don't have to be super autistic about it but you should try and convey imporat details to your audience. So far we've basically gotten nothing out of HB and most of the important details are coming from social media posts and a year's old pilot.

It was, even if it was an accident. If my brother caused the deaths of multiple people including our parents and maimed a good friend requiring prosthetics for all of his limbs. I would kinda go nanners and hate him.
The issue is more that most characters are pretty much just quirky good guys who's worst crime is killing some pieces of shit and saying "Frick" often and few evil characters are just boring, 1 dimensional plot devices with as much charm and charisma as well... the writers. MCs well at first said to be pieces of shit that this show was supposed to make you root for them, but it does it by making them pretty much blameless for anything bad and everyone who is evil is someone who doesn't like them.
And worst of all this show being set in Hell adds little to nothing when most of this world if not all of it is just earth, but different colors. There is no unique culture, no actually hellish atmosphere. For all it's talk about being made for "mature audiences" it is very, VERY safe show where the most risque form of content is sex jokes and swearing. It's an "adult" show that refuses to treat it's audience like adults and feels the need to make everything nice and safe for it's audience so it is easy to see who is the bad guy and who is the good guy when in Hell that should be far more complicated.
And yet they act like they're totally ok misunderstood good guys who are just heckin' quirky (unless they get in the way of muh gay love story, in which case they are the worst of all evils)
The Bible portrays hell as a state of mind instead of a physical place, and Revelations describes the damned as simply continuing to exist on the post-apocalyptic hellscape Earth while the virtuous ascend into heaven, so any description of hell beyond that is complete fanfiction anyway.
Crazy to think that the most definitive source of pop-Christian theology is literally self-insert isekai fanfiction.

It's just part of a the plot, Heaven is going to be bad and not allow gays so the end result is Hell is just full of a bunch of misunderstood misfits with the occasional evil psychopath, the show will at best blissfully ignore Angel Dust being a Mafioso (so very likely a murderer), Alastor being a serial killer, whatever Husk did to earn his way into Hell, etc. or at worst try to excuse their actions in some way. Viv's protagonists can never be evil, they always need to be outcasts who secretly have a good heart and are never really accountable for their own actions, Fizz let Blitzo off the hook within a single episode and Barbie's either going to be protrayed as an butthole for never forgiving Blitzo for causing the death of their mother or forgive him as soon as he manages to talk with her just like Fizz did.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind if Husk was genuinely just a guy who just didn’t meet Heaven’s expectations of what a person needs to go there, not that he was a murderer or psychopath but through gambling and drinking he dug a sinful hole that damned him. AD can be the actual sinner who is drowning in his sins and suffering for it (with potential to fully repent) and Alastor is the unrepentant prick that does belong in Hell, relishing the despair of the other categories failing to escape Hell or worse setting them up to frick up in vital moments where it seems as if something good will happen.

I'd assume purgatory to be a more neutral plane ruled by either the four horsemen or just death. Neither bliss nor chaos, where souls are given a choice to go to heaven (but not get all the perks, idk what to give as an example), go to hell (but not get all the downsides such as being locked to pride) or remain in purgatory. But I'd imagine that it's super hard to get into purgatory, cause you either have to not do bad thingsbut not do good things, or you have to do some really bad things and some really good things (like robbing banks and preventing the end of the world) Basically it's centrism the place.
Ehh yeah, basically except it isn't limited to one person, didn't come into existence in the 1980's, is ruled by the grim reaper, and of course the active choice to go to heaven, hell, or stay without the need to improve or worsen as a person. Besides that, I never watched the good place beyond the first three episodes so I just kinda stumbled upon that idea of purgatory individually when I was thinking of "what would happen to those who are neither good nor bad whether through inaction or overaction", I had to look up plot synopsises for the good place episodes to figure out what you're talking about and to compare my idea of how purgatory would work in the HH/HB universe and the middle place.

For whatever reason Viv set aside imps demon royalty and hell hounds as hell natives. Basically they're just normal people who got born in hell instead of on earth and she seems uninterested on expanding on them any more then that other then the occasional background detail or scene showing them as callous, or disposable in the case of imps and hell hounds.
It would be interesting if the imps/hellhounds/etc existed in what is currently hell before the whole fall of Lucifer. Not in a state of demonic anarchy, but just kind of existing peacefully.

Fastforward, and you can see how being colonised by Satan and the legions of hell, alongside millennia of the worst mankind has to offer, would begin to have a detrimental effect on the values and culture of the hellborn.

Whether or not any of the sides here were any good. But that got destroyed in the moment that damn photo was shown. This was definitely the moment the series just plummeted.

I think what really sold me about the setting was the mere existence of the Hotel. The idea of what amounts to a rehab center in hell for your own immortal soul is legitimately interesting, but more interesting is why Alastor is funding it; he thinks it’ll be fun to watch, believing it’s doomed to fail, as “The chance given was the life they lived before.”
Everyone in the cast of Hazbin is a sinner, damned to hell for their life of sin. Alastor believes it’s simply impossible for someone who lives in sin to ever overcome it, and that he may get some sadistic glee watching sad people try and shed it.
The contrast with Charlie, who believes the exact opposite—that a sinful nature, whether learned or born into, can be overcome with great effort—is the crux of a very interesting theme. Charlie is a creature literally born into hell that has eschewed its demonic nature in favor of altruism. Alastor is a serial killer that, in rejecting his own humanity, has gained a power that has allowed him to claim a charmed life as a mass-murdering warlord. Which is correct about the nature of sin?
The funny thing about Alastor’s point is that, thus far, there’s more evidence for his point of view in the material we’ve seen so far, and it’s because sin corrupts. When you give into the desires that cause you to sin, you’re likely to hurt those around you and yourself, which gives way to both misery and more sin. Many characters across hell follow this pattern, except for a few who are immune; characters that do not care who they hurt or even revel in it. People who can thrive in the death spiral that sin causes. People like Alastor.
So why on earth should Asmodeus, a big wig tied completely to the concept of lust, care so strongly about consent? Why should Beelzebub care if someone overindulges? Why are these people somewhat decent, yet Angel’s pimp is not?

That really is the worst of it. The show kneecaps itself because Viv doesn’t even want to give her audience a chance to not like the protagonists.
Stolas’s backstory is both sad and understandable without Stella being completely evil. Stella could have just been normal and the story would have still been good, but if they left the part about her choking animals out, you might feel sorry for her, and that’s a problem in the eyes of the writers.
It just goes back to these writers writing with the mentality of teenage girls, they want to write drama about how hard life is but they havent actually experienced how hard and complicated life actually is.
Viv seems like the type to read a wikipedia page on Aleister Crowley and now thinks she's qualified to speak on demonology and integrate it into her crappy show.

Literally no way is Vivziepop's Hell the actual Hell. It feels like a reward if anything.
It's a reward for the really awful people, those who killed someone else for a reason other than self defence, they dealt drugs, ect. They'd expect a fiery inferno where they get tortured for the rest of all eternity but instead they get L.A. with your only risk of death occuring once a year.

Here's the thing is that they're all bad in a human way. With the exception of Stella, and maybe Blitzo's dad and sister every character has some redeeming qualities and at least one person they generally care about. Even Crimson does care about Moxxie in his own way, and seemed to believe he had responsibilities to his underlings. He could be a human mob boss, and for the most part nothing would change.
Now this would be fine if everyone above Stolas and most of the demons coequal to him were almost pure evil, and set up a system that encouraged that for creatures that could be better. But based on how Viv portrayed Beelzebub as just furry Ke$ha I don't think that'll happen.

When you make the decision to set your big story in heaven/hell, it comes with a lot of baggage. There are things you pretty much have to address and world building that needs to be established otherwise the foundation of your world starts falling apart

According to fricking who? Theologically, even the existence of either is on extremely fricking shaky ground, at best, unless you're talking about Greek and Roman shit or fanfiction about it. (And yes, I realize that there's an extremely thin line that you can pull for a vague concept kind of like this if you really want to, and highly dependent on translations and interpretation, but man, even the most generous has zero details and I would argue it takes bad faith readings not to set them into the future, but whatever, man).

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with theology. It's about creative effort. Heaven and hell are concepts that come pre packaged with ideas of power structures and hierarchys. If your basing a story with a wide scope in hell you need to explain how the frick things work. You don't have to be super autistic about it but you should try and convey imporat details to your audience. So far we've basically gotten nothing out of HB and most of the important details are coming from social media posts and a year's old pilot.

I think the OP issue is that both of the leaders of the circles of hell we've seen so far are disgustingly nice.
The issue is more that most characters are pretty much just quirky good guys who's worst crime is killing some pieces of shit and saying "Frick" often and few evil characters are just boring, 1 dimensional plot devices with as much charm and charisma as well... the writers. MCs well at first said to be pieces of shit that this show was supposed to make you root for them, but it does it by making them pretty much blameless for anything bad and everyone who is evil is someone who doesn't like them.
And worst of all this show being set in Hell adds little to nothing when most of this world if not all of it is just earth, but different colors. There is no unique culture, no actually hellish atmosphere. For all it's talk about being made for "mature audiences" it is very, VERY safe show where the most risque form of content is sex jokes and swearing. It's an "adult" show that refuses to treat it's audience like adults and feels the need to make everything nice and safe for it's audience so it is easy to see who is the bad guy and who is the good guy when in Hell that should be far more complicated.
And yet they act like they're totally ok misunderstood good guys who are just heckin' quirky (unless they get in the way of muh gay love story, in which case they are the worst of all evils)
The Bible portrays hell as a state of mind instead of a physical place, and Revelations describes the damned as simply continuing to exist on the post-apocalyptic hellscape Earth while the virtuous ascend into heaven, so any description of hell beyond that is complete fanfiction anyway.
The sheer amount of outside works people get their concept of hell from is insane. Most of them aren't even biblical.

This actually isn't inconsistent with Christian belief. Fallen angels are in hell because they chose to rebel against God and continue to choose not to return to his light. It's impossible for someone to be born into inherent evil, even in hell, because they haven't made an actual conscious choice to act against God.

It's just part of a the plot, Heaven is going to be bad and not allow gays so the end result is Hell is just full of a bunch of misunderstood misfits with the occasional evil psychopath, the show will at best blissfully ignore Angel Dust being a Mafioso (so very likely a murderer), Alastor being a serial killer, whatever Husk did to earn his way into Hell, etc. or at worst try to excuse their actions in some way. Viv's protagonists can never be evil, they always need to be outcasts who secretly have a good heart and are never really accountable for their own actions, Fizz let Blitzo off the hook within a single episode and Barbie's either going to be protrayed as an butthole for never forgiving Blitzo for causing the death of their mother or forgive him as soon as he manages to talk with her just like Fizz did.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind if Husk was genuinely just a guy who just didn’t meet Heaven’s expectations of what a person needs to go there, not that he was a murderer or psychopath but through gambling and drinking he dug a sinful hole that damned him. AD can be the actual sinner who is drowning in his sins and suffering for it (with potential to fully repent) and Alastor is the unrepentant prick that does belong in Hell, relishing the despair of the other categories failing to escape Hell or worse setting them up to frick up in vital moments where it seems as if something good will happen.

I guess it's more like purgatory, potentially, and erasure is true hell, just since there's nothing in it it's pushed to unclassified.
I'd assume purgatory to be a more neutral plane ruled by either the four horsemen or just death. Neither bliss nor chaos, where souls are given a choice to go to heaven (but not get all the perks, idk what to give as an example), go to hell (but not get all the downsides such as being locked to pride) or remain in purgatory. But I'd imagine that it's super hard to get into purgatory, cause you either have to not do bad thingsbut not do good things, or you have to do some really bad things and some really good things (like robbing banks and preventing the end of the world) Basically it's centrism the place.

Ehh yeah, basically except it isn't limited to one person, didn't come into existence in the 1980's, is ruled by the grim reaper, and of course the active choice to go to heaven, hell, or stay without the need to improve or worsen as a person. Not only that, but Mindy (the character the medium place is for) didn't really do the really good thing, she just came up with the plans for this charity, withdrew her life savings to enact the plans, and died.
Besides that, I never watched the good place beyond the first three episodes so I just kinda stumbled upon that idea of purgatory individually when I was thinking of "what would happen to those who are neither good nor bad whether through inaction or overaction", I had to look up plot synopsises for the good place episodes to figure out what you're talking about and to compare my idea of how purgatory would work in the HH/HB universe and the middle place.

For whatever reason Viv set aside imps demon royalty and hell hounds as hell natives. Basically they're just normal people who got born in hell instead of on earth and she seems uninterested on expanding on them any more then that other then the occasional background detail or scene showing them as callous, or disposable in the case of imps and hell hounds.
It would be interesting if the imps/hellhounds/etc existed in what is currently hell before the whole fall of Lucifer. Not in a state of demonic anarchy, but just kind of existing peacefully.

I think what really sold me about the setting was the mere existence of the Hotel. The idea of what amounts to a rehab center in hell for your own immortal soul is legitimately interesting, but more interesting is why Alastor is funding it; he thinks it’ll be fun to watch, believing it’s doomed to fail, as “The chance given was the life they lived before.”
Everyone in the cast of Hazbin is a sinner, damned to hell for their life of sin. Alastor believes it’s simply impossible for someone who lives in sin to ever overcome it, and that he may get some sadistic glee watching sad people try and shed it.
The contrast with Charlie, who believes the exact opposite—that a sinful nature, whether learned or born into, can be overcome with great effort—is the crux of a very interesting theme. Charlie is a creature literally born into hell that has eschewed its demonic nature in favor of altruism. Alastor is a serial killer that, in rejecting his own humanity, has gained a power that has allowed him to claim a charmed life as a mass-murdering warlord. Which is correct about the nature of sin?
The funny thing about Alastor’s point is that, thus far, there’s more evidence for his point of view in the material we’ve seen so far, and it’s because sin corrupts. When you give into the desires that cause you to sin, you’re likely to hurt those around you and yourself, which gives way to both misery and more sin. Many characters across hell follow this pattern, except for a few who are immune; characters that do not care who they hurt or even revel in it. People who can thrive in the death spiral that sin causes. People like Alastor.
So why on earth should Asmodeus, a big wig tied completely to the concept of lust, care so strongly about consent? Why should Beelzebub care if someone overindulges? Why are these people somewhat decent, yet Angel’s pimp is not?

Viv and her fans are going on and on again about how consent is "important" to Lust.
And apparently Vivzie thinks she's an expert on criminology, too, since she thinks it's impossible for rape to be motivated by Lust.
She and her characters want to just be quirky libertines (but with consent!), and she is unwilling to commit to the setting.
This can be boiled down to one simple thing, and that's Viv refuses to write villain protagonists, any protagonist needs to have a somewhat decent moral code in her eyes, Asmodeus cares about consent, Beelzebub is basically just a party girl, and I'm damn certain the main cast of Hazbin is going to get woobified so they're not actually shitty people.
Season 2 of Helluva legitimately reminds me of fanfiction because it shares a very common trait in shitty fanfictions where the main characters are never responsible for their own actions, never face the consequences of them, and/or given a ton of excuses to why their actions were in the right.

Stella could have just been normal and the story would have still been good, but if they left the part about her choking animals out, you might feel sorry for her, and that’s a problem in the eyes of the writers.
It just goes back to these writers writing with the mentality of teenage girls, they want to write drama about how hard life is but they havent actually experienced how hard and complicated life actually is.
