While it's easy to hate Black folk, bear in mind that the israelites in Hollywood choose the ugliest Black folk on purpose*.
It's about normalization and the degradation of genetics.
Idris Elba is the only good-looking Black person around atm; and that's only because there are a few Black person-roles which they know* can't be disgustingly ugly. Love to Idris tho; can't hate the player, but the game.

Oppenheimer's visual effects are shit. The one good effect in the film is the atom spinny trick, you don't deserve an oscar for that.

Wouldn't an animated movie technically mean it's not an effect at all? Am I just moronic?

The nominations are up to the discretion of the voters if I remember properly. It's why best foreign language is sometimes arbitrarily allowed to compete for best picture too.
So theoretically, I think they could nominate Killers of the Flower Moon for best animated picture if enough voters agreed

Does a deliberate snubbing like this end up all the way back around to being based?
because holy shit this is some next level intentional giving nolan the middle finger. putting up a glowing neon sign saying "frick you nolan" would've been more subtle than nominating these over oppenhiemer.

Besides the obvious pics…look, I loved Godzilla. But the fx were commercial tier at best, just with good art direction boosting it up. It was not a case like District 9 where the visuals somehow magically transcended their budget.

      Barbie over Oppenheimer? wtf

Don't know why people are surprised by this. The movie only had one effect shot and it was just a big gasoline explosion they tried to pass off as a nuclear bomb.

The winner will be The Creator easily. Aquaman, Napoleon, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, will be nominated.

Oppenheimer's main visual effect is a Mythbusters stunt. The only other thing it has going for it are macro photography tricks which have already been done better in more impressive films.

Makes sense. I guess the mark of quality for VFX is now simply throwing so much shit on the screen that the audience loses any ability to assess quality. Michal Bay deserves several apologies

Hate on Bay all you want, but if you look back at the first couple Transformer movies they blow capeshit out of the water effect wise. I was watching Revenge of the Fallen on my shitty TV last night and it's pretty incredible how well it holds up.

As I said, he deserves several apologies. The shit he was mocked for in the 2000s is now the standard of quality two decades later.

He made schlock, but at least it was enjoyable schlock. It was about spectacle and mindless fun. Now it's that, but all the fun sucked out by shitty casting and endless preaching and homosexualry. At least the worst I could say about Bay was that his movies were corny.

right decision, the movie didn't had a single scene that looked impressive. People said the explosion was supposed to be a highlight but even the old footage of it looks a lot more impressive than whatever Nolan tried there.

No it doesn't. Look at the bushes in the foreground here and notice that there's another bush of the same size on the OTHER SIDE of the nuclear explosion. It's fricking embarrassing and I cringed for Nolan.

Not even close. Nolan's insistence on practical effects is usually a good thing but he fricked up on this one

the anti bomb explosion gays had a field day that first week before people saw it and they were thoroughly put in their place in every single thread. They’re just trying to relive those very very brief glory days.

          >this is the bomb, your big money shot after all the tiring garbage of the rest of the movie about a guy known for only one thing
          >this is your nuke bro
What a frick you. Couldn't even be bothered to really hype it up and make it look good after all that time invested into a movie with nothing else in it. And this is the payoff. Stock effects you use for a basic explosion entirely unlike that of a nuclear bomb at all.

I watched it in 4k hdr from an 80gb torrent and honestly the visuals were pretty great. Only thing that left me kind of underwhelmed was the nuke explosion but the visualizations and more trippy stuff on screen looked amazing. As did the cinematography in general.
