Vin Diesel, bless his heart, takes these films very seriously. It’s literally his life. Therefore, he doesn’t like actors hamming it up and not taking themselves seriously. He sees it as disrespectful. His passion for the films is what makes them.

This honestly makes these movies suffer so bad. I ripped fast x on Friday and can’t stop thinking about how much better it would have been to stop taking the drama so seriously, stop inserting “comedy”, and just let the comedy come by embracing how ridiculous these movies are. They’re entertaining because they’re moronic silly car-fu movies not because they’re vin’s dramatic “lord of the rings” magnum opus or whatever the frick he said.

The contrast between Vin's gravelly monotone about FAMILY and MY SON and Momoa cackling and mincing around his scenes in fabulous shirts is funnier than any wacky car stunt could be.

Except for maybe when they cut back to Vin in Rome after like five minutes of the other characters and the bomb was still flying down roads at 100 mph like it had a mind of its own, that cracked me up. They hadn't established it was going down hills yet either so just seemed like it had infinite momentum.

The character was very clearly supposed to be an over the top memorable villain, since this franchise has generally had pretty uninteresting villains (and the few that weren't turned into good guys). He even wins at the end of this movie. If that's overshadowing Diesel, they got exactly what they asked for. Momoa was quite open about being eager to play a villain and a wacky one at that after only really playing gruff burly good guys his whole career.

Given how b***hy Rock turned out to be about other things, and how b***hy Vin is about just about anything, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a real dislike or at least egos chafing, that they nonetheless played up for publicity because they're showmen at heart and Rock knows well from wrestling that there's no real life drama you can't turn into an angle.

This movie really showed how unwieldy the cast has become. It's just way too big. Their refusal to kill anyone off, even moving to resurrect characters previously killed off for real, and introducing new characters every single film means the cast list is bloated and straining at the sides.

There was an entire "miscellaneous" group of La Familia in this entry whose role in the film was basically "try to get back to the plot", and that was it, every time you cut back to them, they're trying to get back to the actual plot. You could cut all of it and lose nothing whatsoever of the actual story of Momoa versus Vin, with the subplot of John Cena and Vin's strangely black son. Those were the only scenes that actually mattered. Several of the gang should have sat out films if they didn't have a notable role, but Vin has his cast and he insists on them always being in. The only one who has retired is the one whose actor is actually dead.

They even introduced new La Familia in this one. Brie Larson's character was totally superfluous and could have been anyone really. Kind of feels like Vin just wanted to get her in the movie or something. Daniela Melchior's character actually had relevance to the plot and made a good impression, although it's another family member previously unmentioned (in a movie whose villain is also another family member previously unmentioned, following last film whose villain was another family member previously unmentioned), making her another character who can't NOT come back. I will give them kudos for playing successfully with the expectation of antagonistic characters becoming La Familia for the late film twist, that was something different.

But yeah, they have like forty too much . Jason Statham even popped up for one action scene, even after heading off into his own spinoff, again, he had no actual purpose, he was just like checking in.

        >Han's death given extra meaning by knowing all this happened beforehand, they even add a photo of her in his slightly reshot final scene when they retcon in Statham's character as having caused the fatal crash
        >Several films on, wait, actually Han is alive and never died at all
        >The next film, wait actually Gisele is alive and never died at all
So that entire full circle tragic romance plot that filled in the backstory of a likable character who nonetheless died in his first appearance is now rendered entirely pointless.

The best part is that the guy who tried killing him is now part of la familia

            Anonymous

And the villain who by proxy caused Gisele's "death" is also alive AND free, and technically reconciled with La Familia as well though not buddy buddy.

So that whole story streak of 5-7 is just kind of hilarious in hindsight as they've rendered pretty much all aspects of the characters and endings there moot.

It did. F7 was the peak gross wise, particularly domestically it's been in decline for a while, international is where it was massive, but that's declined with the last couple as well
They're also in trouble from the ever ballooning budgets, this one reached 340M due to the delays from losing Justin Lin mid-production and having to get a new director, and the cast salaries have grown to be huge since Vin keeps collecting more and more La Familia and the longer they're in the series the more they can command, and it's not like they're knocking on Tyrese Gibson's door so he's holding onto his paycheck from these like a man gripping something tightly.

They are supposed to have two left. Jason Momoa will probably be the villain of the next one but I don't see them going past that. It's a bit late to be bringing in another new villain only for the last film, so I guess it will be Charlize Theron, unless they make the mistake of La Familia'ing her despite having introduced her specifically as a villain to be entirely detestable and unFamilia.

Yes, but the fourth, fifth and sixth movies took place before the third, because they liked working with him and fans really liked him so they wanted to keep him around longer despite his character's death. Then he finally died at the end of the sixth and it caught up with the third timeline wise, but also he was actually killed by the villain of the seventh movie in a retcon. Then that villain turned good in the eighth movie and got a spinoff with the Rock where his evilest deeds were retconned out, leaving only his murder of said asian guy and beloved member of the team hanging over things.

Daily reminder that the Fast and Furious cast includes

    Ludacris - rapper
    Tyrese - r&b singer
    John Cena - pro wrestler

John Cena's main occupation has been acting since about 2015 or so and Rock's main occupation has been acting for close to twenty years, considerably longer than he was a wrestler. Cena's also a considerably better actor than Vin is.

Momoa's character was one of the worst part of the movie.

Almost every single scene he did something really gay, like he wanted to be some homosexual latino version of the Joker
The only good scenes were the ones where he played it more serious like the car race where he made Dom choose whether to save his friend or his dead wife's sister.

    Fast 9 was much better.

the only fast bad guy more annoying and more detrimental to a movie's overall quality than momoa is maybe cypher, but even then it's momoa

Cypher maybe, but if Momoa was truly that bad, there wouldn't be articles like the one in OP popping up

No, there would. of course vin diesel would be annoyed if momoa insisted on playing every single scene extremely quirky and gay and reddity and made Vin's movie worse as a result.

by "most people" you mean effeminate magazine movie critics who dislike Fast movies in general but make themselves watch them for their job . it stands to reason that they'd like the most ill-fitting part.

No, I'm talking about the regular audience. If his character was just another le tough guy LARP it would've been boring. At least his approach was unique.

Even if his performance was literally exactly the same as Reyes that would have been a huge improvement over the try-hard quirky, flamboyantly gay , annoying redditor performance

He made the entire movie a fricking joke. Imagine if Johnny Tran or Jason Statham or his brother acted like that. Idk wtf this gay french director was thinking but he better not be back for the sequel. I don't blame mamoa he's just following what the director is telling him to do and not do

Yes, every film is essentially Brian is off screen protecting the kids now.
      >inb4 the finale ends with Vin Disel physically having cloned Paul Walker just so the character can be reborn on screen

I like the F&F formula in the script.

Intro(with lots of cgi chase scenes ) -> character intros( like a fighting video game character ) -> cgi chase scene -> barbecue 1 -> chase scene 2 -> barbecue 2-> chase scene 3 -> final barbecue -> end credits

Bong actors view acting like a job, mainly, and rarely care about MUH CRAFT and MUH MOTIVASHUN like homosexual method actors and the like. Heed the words of based Mick Caine:
      >However, Caine later claimed: "I have never seen it [the film], but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific!"[32]
