The way I interpreted it is that he's not really some horrible person, he just realizes the whole thing's bullshit and no one can die so just decides to play villain since he might as well have fun. Like how someone might watch Breaking Bad and kill hookers in GTA but they won't necessarily do any of those things in their personal lives. Remember the Digital Circus isn't real.
I like to think that a lot of the players aren’t reflecting the personalties of the people they were before joining the circus, and what we’re seeing are their online personas and cope. Especially Jax. I think it’d be neat if his offline counterpart was a nice and considerate guy, and he’s only a troll in the circus because nothing is real to him there.
