She would have wound up in debt to him as a result and he'd probably have used it to guilt her into sleeping with him or something

Yeah the Mexican rapist should have died and the idea that "it would have made her just as bad" is stupid but the Mafia aren't jannies, they don't do things for free

      >but the Mafia aren't jannies, they don't do things for free
Tony wouldn't have charged her anything. He was in love with her so much that the idea that some disgusting rapist touched her would drive him insane. He wouldn't be able to stop himself, Tony would of had the rapists balls cut off in an abandoned warehouse before the end of the night.

Consider how Melfi had to convince Tony not to go after that teacher that was fricking his students. Do you really think he was going to send the daughter's parents a bill for services rendered?

The show make it painfully clear that's not how it work
Mobsters are predatory in nature, they always leverage anything at their disposal, people who want to use them for "shortcuts" always end up paying a price down the line

Nothing in the show because nothing happened with her, nor the racetrack

So the same Tony Soprano that had to be convinced by multiple people (Melfi included) not to tear apart a school teacher fricking an underage girl out of pure hatred alone - with no implication that Tony even knew their parents or expected some kind of payment for that - was going to take out a rapist that hurt a woman he was obsessively in love with on the expectation that she'll owe him? The same Tony Soprano that punched a made guy after he killed a stripper that was annoying him constantly?

I don't believe that for one second. Even Tony, mobster that he is, isn't motivated solely by profit. There have been plenty of times where he's stepped in and did what he felt was right, even at his expense.

            >payment
            >profit
It's not about money, it's just that Tony does whatever he want to got what he want
He want to frick Melfi at some point, do you genuinely believe he wouldnt bring the murder of the rapist to her over and over again just to pressure her?

              >It's not about money, it's just that Tony does whatever he want to got what he want
So when he curb-stomped that one guy for insulting his daughter, how did that benefit him? Was he expecting anything from Meadow? Gratitude for being a protective father from that entitled princess? Don't make me laugh.

Tony knew damn well that would lead to war between him and New York and he did it anyways. For the same reason he would have butchered the man who raped Dr. Melfi.

You're basically reinforcing the exact point I'm making here: Tony does whatever the frick he want and doesnt care about how it affect the people around him

I dont think you understand the mechanic here, he doesnt "expect" anything, he just use people
He doesnt "expect" anything when he offer his help to Melfi, in his mind he's a good guy just righting a wrong
But if she did accept his help, later when he wanted to frick her he would 100% use it to apply pressure to her till he get what he want

It's not really premeditated or even conscious, it's just how he is

In fact now that I think about this more let's take it a step further. If all he wanted was revenge he would have snatched Coco away quietly and tortured him for weeks, or hired a 3rd party to do it. Whatever it takes so New York wouldn't know it was him.

Instead what did he do? Walked into a cafe in broad daylight and threatened everyone at gun point while he fricked up a high ranking New York mobster where everyone saw. Knowing damn well Phil wasn't going to like it.

have benny fazio drive icepicks in his balls. From New Yorks perspective tony just walked into their version of satriales, beat one of their made guys half to death, and stuck a gun in the face of a high ranking mobster. How did he not expect extreme consequences for his impulsive rage fueled rampage?

                >his impulsive rage fueled rampage
This is my point. He's not thinking in terms of favors or repayment. He's "thinking" (if you can call it that) in pure hatred. Someone threatened somebody that he cares about, and that person has to die (or at least suffer for it). There are negative consequences but he can't let it go.

The same thing would have happened if Melfi told Tony what happened to her. He wouldn't be thinking "Okay if I ice this parasite she'll give me a blowjob". He'll only be thinking "MURDER MURDER MURDER".

Exactly. He knew Melfi. How can the parents be implicated in a murder when they don’t know the murderer?
            >or expected some kind of payment for that
Tony Soprano didn’t do anything without expecting something on the other end. He was an emotional vacuum with deep unfulfilled needs.

            >was going to take out a rapist that hurt a woman he was obsessively in love with on the expectation that she'll owe him?

Yes. Because he was a narcissist.
            >
The same Tony Soprano that punched a made guy after he killed a stripper that was annoying him constantly?
And yet had no problem with his consiglieri running a strip club where women were regularly used and abused. The same Tony Soprano who terrorized a woman with a baseball bat over money (except it wasn’t about money because again, narcissist).

I honestly don’t understand why you think people who are like this love others in healthy ways. Every relationship is abusive on some level. They don’t operate like a normal person because they aren’t normal. Melfi would have been in a position where he had massive leverage over her and the police wouldn’t be able to protect her. Having a narcissist “in love” with you is not a safe position where you want something like a murder hanging over your head.

Theres nothing to get. Shes wasted screen time every single time it focuses on her. I dont give 2 fricks about her crying about some lady smoking at the table next to her. Letting her rapist get away doesnt make her "strong". Including the rape at all wasnt interesting and added nothing to the plot.
