Norman Osborn was not the first Goblin! confirmed by Marvel

Read it and we weep Norman gays your true suffering starts now.

"Writer J.M. DeMatteis, one of the most influential creators in Spider-Man history, returns next year to spin a new web of lies, secrets, and revenge in SPIDER-MAN: SHADOW OF THE GREEN GOBLIN!

The mind behind groundbreaking Spidey tales like KRAVEN’S LAST HUNT continues to add to his iconic legacy and the mythos of classic Spider-Man lore following retro stints like BEN REILLY: SPIDER-MAN and SPIDER-MAN: THE LOST HUNT. This time, DeMatteis is paired with rising star artist Michael Sta. Maria for a story set during the beginning of Peter Parker’s adventures as Spider-Man.

Still finding his footing as a super hero and dealing with grief over Uncle Ben’s death, Peter will find himself entangled in a dark drama involving his best friend’s family: the Osborns. The saga will revisit the now classic SPIDER-MAN -1 and tie up a plot thread that’s been dangling since 1997 involving the tragic truth behind Norman Osborn’s research assistant Nels van Adder, the first test subject for the “Goblin formula” which transformed him into PROTO-GOBLIN!

Norman Osborn was not the first Goblin! Norman Osborn is the Green Goblin you know. But he is NOT the Original Goblin! It’s time to learn the shocking secrets of the Proto-Goblin, and its dramatic connection to the Osborn family! What role does a young Peter Parker, who has not yet understood his great power and responsibility, play in this unfolding of events?

"I’ve always been fascinated with Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man, a time before he fully understood what it meant to be a super hero," DeMatteis shared. "SHADOW OF THE GOBLIN allows us to take a deep dive into Young Peter’s mind and emotions as he makes his way through this exhilarating, and sometimes terrifying, new world.

-1 was also really heavy on Stacy family (because Arthur and Jill were supporting characters back then). Will JMD adress this, too?

Nice to see a thread about this, cause a new JMD mini seems great! Intresting how he only writes early ditko or marriage.

How many Ditko era stories has he done? Most of the stories I can think of are set in the 90's, which is just when he wrote most of them anyway.

He wrote a good story about Peter coming to terms with how much power he actually has as a minor story in Amazing Spider-Man Family.

"We take an equally-deep dive into the dysfunctional dynamic of the Osborn family, seeing how that generational pain sowed the earliest seeds of Norman’s Green Goblin identity and left its traumatic imprint on Harry," he added. "If you think you know everything there is to know about Peter and the Osborns, think again!"

Check out Paulo Siqueira’s cover now and don’t miss this all-new chapter from Spidey legend J.M. DeMatteis when SPIDER-MAN: SHADOW OF THE GREEN GOBLIN arrives in April.

Are they crazy enough to reveal that that the proto-goblin cloned Norman or Harry I bet they are.

Proto-Goblin has already existed since 1997, Gwenschizo. He's a Goblin Formula test subject who was physically transformed into a red goblin-man, but he didn't build or use any of the Green Goblin costume and weapons. This guy's existed for decades and it doesn't really take anything away from Norman.

I've got more questions about how this is sounding like early Ditko-era Peter had even met Harry and Norman yet.

          Anonymous

The same story fid have Peter and Norman shaking hands briefly, but I think the blurb is just describing the role people know Harry and Norman for. It's like calling Gwen "Peter's lost love" in reference in a story set when she was alive.

He was a sad older man who had trained Sergei and who didn't want Vladimir to go down the same path, he wasn't an angry and crazy younger protege who was groomed into evil.

The clone fetishist at least gives some promotion for the title. If this one millimeter closer to getting a Spectacular Spider-man Omnibus anything is worth it.

Looking forwards to seeing on how JMD's Norman. For a writer whose known for revealing in the humanity of villains, DeMatteis was a pretty major figure in re-establishing Norman as a grade A butthole.

I'm curious to see how he writes him outside of the cross-titles era of post-Clome Saga Spider-man.

The story could go like this it starts in the past and then jumps some years Nels blames Norman for his condition and becoming proto-goblin so he abducts harry has him killed and replaces him with a clone. He begins to notice norman's fixation on Gwen so decides to rob him of his greatest victory so he kills her himself, clones her and make him think he fricked her and then sees him kill the clone all in the name of revenge.
