I think I just had a different experience to the online world then. For me, it was really freeing not to have to be myself all the time. Also, my Dad was very into comics, cartoons and the internet (he’s a web developer now) so he had a lot of online friends that he’d visit while I was growing up. It made it not as weird.

What's great is the Hetalia era was before SJW and anti freakouts got really huge. The only fandom drama I remember was the cosplayers that did a nazi salute outside a holocaust museum. Other than that though, it was a free-for-all. Doitsu and Prussia were beloved characters, and all my favorite ships were nonconsensual Russia ships, like RusxLit and RusxLat. Yeah, we pretty much communicate solely through google translate and deepL. There are some translation mishaps, but for the most part we're able to understand each other through a combination of translators, images, and emoticons

It made me happy since I was really trying to improve on my color choices. Another time was when I was on this side blog where I posted obscure drawings from a popular Japanese artist. This Japanese fan found my blog and decided to pen pal me whenever they would find a cool or obscure drawing by that artist. We still talk sometimes and hell, I would say they are responsible for a sizeable portion of what I post.
Speaking of tumblr, we were all on dA together before my friends moved to tumblr. I loved dA so much and have a lot of nostalgia for it. When everyone migrated, I didn't want to use tumblr, so I just began using Cinemaphile more than I already had.
