I agree. It's one of my favorites. Beautiful film.

It's incredibly beautiful, the actors, the palace, the shots themselves. It's my favorite movie ever since I watched it about 10 years ago.

The intro is a total pain to watch.

      How so?

Plus the fragmented narrative and the way Resnais often uses the actors more like visual representations of a memory rather than your typical characters/actors in a film. Even the hotel itself becomes a storyteller. Lovely.

since I read The Invention of Morel I didn't care about this movie anymore. Should rewatch it soon.

What about everything after the intro?

Proud owner of the Criterion. It's out of print, so how much are these things typically worth?

I haven't read the book to be honest, is it any good?

        >What about everything after the intro?
Intro made me stop watching. Very annoying. Might give it another shot at some point in time if you people manage to make a good argument here. Not looking good though (

The atmosphere is really cool but there's too much cuckoldry shit. The French are the most degenerate people on the planet.

        >redpill me on Morel
it's a good short novel about a guy on an island who discovers other people in the island that always go over the same motions. He discovers that the people are holograms. As things go on he falls in love with the hologram
of a woman, and he discovers the machine that records people and recurringly plays them as holograms. I don't remember if the people disappeared or just died after they were recorded. The thing is he decides to record himself besides the hologram girl as if they were always together.

I read somewhere that Marienbad was based on it.

This sounds wonderful. I've been looking into picking up some more stuff published by NYRB so I'll put this on my list. Thanks for the unintended rec.

        >What?
I remember the woman actively cheating on her husband which left a bad taste in my mouth despite the atmosphere and visuals being really cool. It's been a long time since I saw the movie though so I could be mistaken.

I thought it was a boring meandering peice about le...love.
These art films are really tiresome I only like 1 in every 10 films I see and most of them like this one do nothing for me they rather annoy me.

Pic related is the last film I enjoyed

I like love exposure and themes of Godly love, family love stuff like that I understand.
Le....love is about le bourgeois and thier stupid melodrama no you love me but I love another dude..no please choose me instead.

You can't appreciate both? Honestly, I prefer Godly and more universal love to themes of erotic love, but Marienbad is one of my favorite films. What's stopping you from appreciating both?

Yeah but it's examining memory through the lense of le....love or it's examining le...love through the lens of memory.
Either way I didn't care since le...love was invloved, not to berrate your favorite film but that's just how I felt.
