Someone suggest that I make a show about three friends, and then reveal that they're in a poly relationship. Only, if you're paying attention, the two women in the relation ship are clearly treated like property and that's how it works in their society. It'd be fun to see reactions to that, too.

First, its the typical rival/bad guy situation. The MC has to stop the "love interest" and her evil organization. This will probably be the first arc, with the "love interest" pretending to be killed so that she can resurface in the MC's town/village.
Everyone think's she's dead, but the MC and so there'll be time where the "love interest" has to prove her loyalty to the town.
I'm a fan of taking things slow, so I can wait until three or four arcs of build up just to have the "love interest" get cucked. Right now, things are still pretty early. I'm working on 3d models for the characters, so we'll go from there.

The show is fundamentally a remix psuedo-sequel. It's far from a 1 to 1 adaptation which is probably what has everyone so pissy. I didn't mind it. Don't think of it as a stand in for the original books though. More of an accompanying piece.
