Agreed although Adam West is technically pitch perfect as silver age 50s/60s Batman. But that's probably not the version of Batman you really want is it? At least the Animated Series/DCAU version is about as close to perfect as is possible

Yeah I'm talking exclusive live action past the silver age

Edward Topol, in describing how the Russian people feel about the protagonists of the satirical novel The Twelve Chairs, says they are as real to Russians as Inspector Maigret is to the French, or as Batman is to Americans.

      Good film, mediocre Batman

        > mediocre Batman

Perfect Batman. Less is more is what works for Batman. Why I hate Begins. It’s a Bond movie not a Batman movie. Dark Knight even worse. Seeing a guy in a bat suit at a crime scene with cops and Nolan pretending it’s serious police procedural makes even ridiculous. Batman has to be in a surreal environment. Only way seeing a guy in a bat suit doesn’t look stupid as frick

That's exactly how I see the nolan films. They're action spy thriller movies where they try to imitate Batman characters. Nolan himself stated that he envisioned a Batman who actually succeeded at his goal at saving Gotham from Crime, and that's easier to do if all he's doing is trying to stop organized crime and not super powered villains. I prefer more "Batman's adventures in the Larger Dc Universe" stories but I get why Nolan decided that focusing on the more "plausible" aspects of Batman's lore and mythology made for a more compelling film

Yes. Burton’s Batman. Gotham is this weird surreal city with a art deco style. Batman is this “bogeyman” that people think is not even human. Don’t have Batman standing at crime scenes in batsuit talking to cops and Gordon. Even in Returns he barley interacts with Gordon. He shows up beats ass and leaves

Really? I would've argued Kilmer's Batman almost saves that movie (and Clooney's Batman's why Batman and Robin fails so hard)

He didn't open the movie with close-ups of Batman's arse like he did in Batman and Robin (see gif.) People forget Batman Forever's humor occasionally actually worked:

Batman Forever suit is the best one. Perfect blend of gothic and tacticool.

The first suit, sure - nipples aside it's fricking great. 2nd suit? Nah, he should've kept the first suit throughout

It's a little strange how that strategy (more costumes / vehicles = more toys to sell) died out. Superhero moves are more about selling cheap, plastic junk then ever but the characters never seem to change their look.

the shitty plastic toy industry split into cheap kids junk and expensive adult junk. Kids don't care these days, and the adults have already accepted the "will you buy a toy for your adult self" gambit so they'll accept whatever you give them, minor variation can be achieved from different versions and different Chinese factories.

I meant to say that Forever is a great capeshit movie, yet a not so good batman movie. Didn't mean anything about the batmen themselves. of which Keaton is chief.

I disagree. However, I will say that there has never been a good live action take of Bruce Wayne.

I've made this thread multiple times. Comics, video games, and cartoons are leagues ahead of the creatively bankrupt live action movies.

Batman (1989) was completely unfocused. A series of events that just happened until Batman beat Joker. And making Joker the killer of the Waynes is moronic.

People rightly shit on the Schumacher films (though the set pieces and colors are pretty) but BR is the blueprint. Some of the choices in that movie are farcical.

Nolan has his head up his ass. Half pretentious and half schlock unaware of how unserious it is.

The Batman (2022) should've been Batman Begins. What a shitshow in terms of pacing, casting, unfocused plotlines, anticlimatic final showdown, etc. And they were too pussy to go rated R. Funnily enough, Joker made more money.

I haven't seen the Synderverse, but the clips I've seen are probably the closest to what Batman should be.

At least we didn't get David Fincher's shitty take.

They should've just handed the reigns of Batman over to Frank Darabont. Let's get some fricking kino.

There's been plenty. You might just not like Batman as a character.

If you're going by comic-homosexualry: Heads up; comic books are shit and clinging to them like they're some sort of high art or prestigious source material is laughable and a waste of time. Every good Batman movie is better than any good Batman comic.

This is how gay and boring contrarians on Cinemaphile are. All you do is argue that everything sucks. Congratulations on being miserable and all, but you should be looking for good movies, not bad ones. If you found something you don’t like, look elsewhere. Talk about the ones you like when you find them. The frick is the point of talking shit on a movie you don’t have fun watching? Now you are spending your free time still not watching a good movie, and investing more time into the one you know you already didn’t enjoy. Stop being homosexuals, and sage in all fields.

Where is this meme that Forever was good coming from? Typical /tv contrarianism? TLJ was awful in it. So was Carey. Chris O’Donnal couldn’t act to save his life. Even Kilmer hated changes to script so much he refused to leave his trailer and why he quit. Yeah not as bad as Batman 8 Robin but that doesn’t make it good either
