>nothing to do with the direction Sega wanted the show to go in
>nothing to do with the direction the writer wanted to go in
who is this for? gullible fans who have disposable income? that's the only answer that makes sense.
>nothing to do with the direction Sega wanted the show to go in
>nothing to do with the direction the writer wanted to go in
who is this for? gullible fans who have disposable income? that's the only answer that makes sense.
It's for homies that wanted another season
yeah another season, not an animated adaptation of a fan comic that's been running for 13 years and is still going.
these homies don't have an ending in mind or planned, and they def ain't getting the money they need or are expecting out of the frickin SatAM fandom.
>these homies don't have an ending in mind
Did Sonic cartoons ever? I mean I guess Prime did but almost everything about its last season sucked.
>I mean I guess Prime did
did it? from what i hear, it ended on a somewhat similar note. the ending has some unknown badguy looming and then the company announced the show was canceled.
Personally, that kind of ending is sort of satisfying. We all know that Sonic is hero that beats up threats every day. What pops up is just another thing for Sonic to take care of as usual.
Kinda like the ending of the 3D Astro Boy movie. Sure, would’ve loved a sequel but knowing what kind of a robot he is from the movie and the anime, I felt content enough knowing that was just a new threat for him to flatten.
>that kind of ending is sort of satisfying.
then maybe SatAM should be left alone, since that's how it ended
The difference between Astro boy and SatAm, was that there was nothing more left planned for the Astro Boy movie. Movie flopped, nobody wanted to bite, game over. Ben had his movie in the bag only for Ken to ruin it.
But then again, this project is not being based off of Ben’s movie and season 3 ideas… I just hope that they don’t butcher this because then they might as well have not gone and done this. I did read the comic, I liked it. Hopefully things don’t go downhill
Would you feel differently if you learned the Astro Boy movie writers had a sequel planned? Just about every franchise is meant to keep going as long as sales are strong and unless they make a definitive ending, almost every canned product had more to come. Some revived properties are even more respected when they died than when they got brought back.
> Would you feel differently if you learned the Astro Boy movie writers had a sequel planned?
Some years ago, yes. I’d feel robbed and then would want it to happen even more.
Nowadays? In this mainstream environment? No. I am currently glad that it stayed ended.
There is a difference between
>Well we saved the day now onto the next adventure!
and
>Well we saved the day time to go home, "meanwhile a shadowy figure looks on cackling about it grand evil plan"
One is a statement that while this particular story (Story not Arc there is a difference) is over the characters will continue doing what their doing.
The other is attempting to extend the story via the direct introduction of a new threat.
Satam should have ended with a blue explosion and the cast happily running into it, as a team.
Yes
All of Prime sucked anyways.
Yeah but season 3 was so bad even compared to season 1 and the relatively better season 2. They wanted the melodrama to hit so hard but they forgot to make anything happen or to at least have a B plot to break up the monotony.
So when is it coming.
the pilot? who knows?
the season? they expect a network or studio to pick them up and pay for the rest. they have no plan to actually animate it themselves.
How delusional do you have to be to think that your series, which features a copyrighted character you don't own, is going to get picked up by a network just like that? The amount of communication that'd have to be done between different companies would be a headache.
i'm 100% serious, that is their plan, directly from their own mouths.
which is one of the many reasons this strikes me as a few people who saw a legal loophole (thanks again, Ken) and decided to bilk fans for donations.
Well I hope they enjoy their delusions as long as it lasts.
I hate to be the soi wojak, but is there a source to this claim?
it's what several people helming the project have posted on their discord
the project head also posted some wacky shit about getting in touch with the show's original producers, getting them on board, and that he has some sort of inside info about sega of america's movements.
i think the dude forgets sega of america also told Ken they were ?very interested" in his Sonic Star Trek movie.
They were interested in, however, Ben Hurst’s pitch… which Ken ruined. And they are not following Ben’s ideas anyway so even if that’s what they are actually doing, pffft, good luck.
Again, hate to be that guy, but for anyone not in the know itt it's all just anonymous conjecture. And no, I'm not transitioning just to join a discord to find out if a fan cartoon's staff are getting too big for their britches. If you have so much insider info, a few screenshots would go far in substantiating your claims.
join their discord and read it for yourself. the messages are all right there.
Thanks but no thanks, I'll just assume you could be trolling for all we know since that's always a safe bet here.
thanks but no thanks, i'll just assume even if i did post screenshots you'd start gibbering that i edited them or made them up wholesale. if you can't even be fricked to verify the evidence yourself, i'm not sure what benefit engaging with you has at all.
Keep not having evidence I guess.
keep pretending i haven't told you exactly where to find it i guess
>dude just troon out
>you expect me to READ shit? gay. dude, just regurgitate it directly in to my mouth
>join my discord you cute egg uwu
Nah
anon, why are you so afraid of a site you can join for free without registering and then close the tab and never visit it again?
Why are you so allergic to backing up your claims? It's like you don't want to be taken seriously.
sea3on chat channel. start reading at 1/11/2024, the post made at 4:06pm
No thank you, but at least you actually gave a potential source of information for anyone who actually does use that app.
>they expect a network or studio to pick them up and pay for the rest.
Are they actually that delusional or is this a narrative we're making up to shitpost for no reason?
>they expect a network or studio to pick them up and pay for the rest.
Wow, they're as stupid as Penders.
It’s a SatAM continuation. Good enough for me if it’s written well. I am a bit disappointed that they have deviated from Ben Hurst’s original ideas, this would have been a good quality solution for them to be fully realized all these years later. But… I guess I’ll have to sit and wait. If anything, I still have Sonic Villains to look forward to.
Wait a minute… source? Been following this for a while and that’s the first I’ve heard of it. If that’s true that’s very moronic on their part.
And here I was binging the 1st/2nd Seasons, plus some good fanfic's, towards getting ready for the 3rd Season. Only for it to not be a love letter to Ben Hurst and the original shows plots/cliffhangers for their 'fan adaption'.
Why even bother in taking up this mantle at all if it's just only new filler for an already-filled story that has various plots lined-up to be told? It's Sonic Mania all over again. Only it's just a waste if done for clout reasons.
It's a fan project and you know that Sonic fans especially have their own fanfics that they want to tell even if they could be using their resources to adapt official stuff. Maybe the S3 team just doesn't want to frick up the show's unused ideas or simply likes the setting and characters and wants to do their own stories first before getting to the cut content.
>Only it's just a waste if done for clout reasons.
This would be lame though and from what has been posted about the team it seems like the most likely scenario.
Sigh... I just pray it doesn't become an Animaniac's fiasco. Some things should just not be brought back in current times if you're not going to bother with the focus.
And, what the hell.
How would you, or any other in the thread, have done a Season3 for kicks and giggles as the final sendoff?
Depends on my priority, do I think I have a good enough definitive story ending that puts the Robotnik saga to rest or do I want to go for a thematic ending where things are left off pretty much at the status quo but the character development of the season reaches some kind of conclusion?
Screw it, lets go for the second option. I'm willing to see what could come from this in eternally wrapping up the whole SatAM Saga for the whole series to walk off into the sunset.
The problem with the second option is it could literally be anything. Most of Satam in general is some character flaw is made the focus, some action happens, and the problems brought by the character flaw are resolved. I've been thinking about this for the past half hour, I'm pretty sure everything I've come up with has been done in some form in Archie or Satam. Not only that, the ideas I've had are technically one-offs or brief arcs (I was limiting myself to a 2 episode finale) and at its core that's what a lot of the show and comic was even for some of their more grandiose plots. Characters roboticize themselves to save the day, FFs and Robotnik have to work together to stop a thing, the FFs beat Robotnik and assume he's dead only for him to be fine next episode, an FF gets briefly taken over or replaced with a robot double, a new mobian appears and acts up only to learn their lesson at the end and becomes an ally, and so on. There isn't really a general theme or plotline that hasn't been done by one of the 2 that I can come up with offhand at the moment. Since the nebulous idea of a season 3 could be anything, it's hard for me to say for certain "this is how I would end the show" because the bottom line is I would be doing it basically no different from how things already are: mostly just keep doing episodic character-focused stories until the show gets canceled. I could come up with *a* theme, but at this point it would only be fanfic which makes it no better off than any other fanfic. It's kind of a cop out answer, but the show seems to have been made to go on forever until it gets canceled like a lot of cartoons so that's how I approach it if we're doing the second option. I could be wrong though since I don't remember what the cut content and movie were going to be.
I see your point on all of this really, as this has been handled before in other mediums, most especially the comic for the SatAm show.
However, I feel that the show itself could present these scenarios in a different light that could have even more weight in the show's telling of them and with what
said about the show to finalize it wholesale. If you're going to finish big on the series, make sure to cover the majority of your cast and plots so you leave no stones unturned.
I get that, I personally would just need more direction. Like if you said the overarching theme or just the finale's theme has to be "the unstoppable force of nature," for the ending I would go in the FF VII/TTGL direction where some potentially unbeatable guardian 'white cell' force of the planet that can't differentiate between friend or foe is awakened due to Robotnik's continued pollution, Robotnik would try to fight it on his own while the FFs work against him to stop him from angering it further, in the battle Robotnik ends up locating and attacking Knothole, while nature's destroyer (maybe a beast of some kind, maybe the environment shifting, maybe some intangible energy thing, maybe all together, etc) is wreaking havoc trying to destroy anything in the vicinity of Robotnik's areas (Knothole is near enough, which could be how it was uncovered) and probably anywhere that uses technology in general since that puts everyone at risk. In the end the two forces have to come to some kind of truce to quell nature's rage, the destruction either moved a part of the Great Forest so Knothole can still exist or they form a new one, and Robotnik makes do with whatever he has left to continue his ambitions while making comment about working on a way to counteract the destroyer on his own for when it resurfaces due to his actions, though it would be unlikely for him to actually do so and supposedly the FFs will beat him someday so it doesn't come to that, which all doesn't matter since now the show is over.
Interesting. A Chaos-like enemy that wants to destroy all life from the abuse from all creatures careless actions in tampering its resources and technology. You can tie the plot to Knuckles, Shadow and/or the colony as well to further maximize the importance of it. Leading up to the end with Robotnik pulling an Ultimate Annihilator from the Archie comics with its remains of the creature for his latest creation as a last effort to snuff out Knothole and damn near Mobius itself as a whole. Ending with Robotnik heavily thwarted by the Emerald's powers, FFs and other characters/ sacrifices, even Nicole and Uncle Chuck's, to render him powerless and terminally feeble-minded to the point of perhaps being a threat no longer to them as this causes his downfall. Recalling almost none of the events with the Mobian inhabitants since he and his nephew first got there as he slowly meets his end.
Giving the rest of the cast time to reconnect, rebuild Knothole and the Acorn Kingdom soon after with newfound friends and direction amid the great losses. After many long years of adventure and toil leading towards a new beginning of freedom and peace. One of the most interesting ways to end it in my opinion as you can add plenty of story events for the show to hopefully tie-up the majority of its loose ends if done well.
sounds like it works fine. you could just MAKE it be Chaos.
Robotnik finds Master Emerald, tells Knuckles a bunch of lies to get him on his side. when he or Snivley finally make a play for the Emerald, that wakes up Chaos. planet cleansing antics ensue.
>all this happens
>everyone assumes it's because of Robotnik's actions and partway through the story he takes the Emerald which weakens Chaos
>it turns out Chaos actually woke up in response to The End drawing near
>the heroes have to get the Emerald back from Robotnik before he takes off to space with it so Chaos can power back up and shoot his mouth laser to kill The End
Sounds about right to me. I could see this going a number of ways towards reaching the series end with The End with Chaos, Knuckles, Robotnik and the FFs for the climatic finale. Putting the bookend on the whole show.
Hell, even get some of the VA's, a few writing staff and some fans back to help and voice if they really have the best sort-of connections with the producers and showrunners. Keyword being 'connections'.
I just want this series to conclude gracefully now that its in another groups hands, if it hasn't already been concluded in '95 or even the Archie Comics. And I have no idea, or even the showrunners themselves know what they want with this old corpse to tout around with, for their true vision with it.
A third season or conclusion or something would be nice, but I think we all know that what it will really be is at most one episode then nothing. More realistically it will be the Sea3on team stringing everyone along on the hopes of some eventual product, fall due to infighting, and end up largely forgotten. They probably would have done better if they just labeled it as some Satam fan animation product but they went ahead and marketed themselves as THE season 3 of Satam and that comes with 20 years of expectations that I doubt they could measure up to even if they were better prepared.
it really seems like they're just trying to suck up as many donations as they can before the jig is up
I think there's at least some real passion behind it but not enough to save it
>red eyes are Knuckles as originally intended
>as Knuckles and Snivley make trouble for Knothole, Knuckles begins to see the suffering of Robotropolis and begins to realize maybe Robotnik wasn't telling the truth about the 'evil resistance force' that was supposedly coming for his emerald
>have the Sonic and Nicole plot Hurst wanted as a simultaneous plot thread
>Robotnik's inevitable return and betrayal pushes Knuckles to the Freedom Fighters
it would have been great
Knuckles is lame, make it Shadow instead
already accounted for. Hurst wrote about a space colony in his notes, that's where Shadow can come in as the Season 4 teaser.
Knuckles (Season3 PART I) and Shadow/ even Rouge (S3 Part II) sound very good. As I'd want to see a Colony/ G.U.N. take on the characters and how they would handle the Master Emerald plus the Emeralds themselves in a unique way before the big finish.
And I mean a big finish for the saga to finally conclude!
Now try it without relying on bringing in more games characters
the plan was always to bring in more games characters. the eyes were supposed to be Knuckles from the beginning, and i've got no problem with that.
are you also mad they shoved Tails in last minute? should he have stayed out?
DiC Tails is my favorite unironically. One of the few kid characters that is more charming than annoying. It's probably because he usually wants to be a better person and tries working towards that rather than be annoying and just a plot device to make problems happen. Games Tails is just a boring know it all for the most part since Colors.
>they have deviated from Ben Hurst’s original ideas
So what IS this fanmade continuation of SatAM about then?
Acorn pussy
And you've lost me.
They had some things animated but good luck getting that to happen.
It's for people who just want more satam, I guess.
but it's got nothing to do with the seasons we could have gotten
I mean content set in the satam universe in general by people who probably care enough to keep the setting and characters as close to accurate as they can or at least as close as they want to. At this point I don't care too much about whatever is "canon" to Sonic stuff as long as its enjoyability outweighs the time spent consuming it. It would be cool to see scrapped concepts brought to life, but if fans are getting together making this shit for free then it's not like I can just demand they only focus on what was going to be official content.
> It would be cool to see scrapped concepts brought to life
it sure would, which is not what this project is doing. again, this is the animated adaptation of a fan comic that has nothing to do with the cliffhanger of the show as it was intended, or the season 3 outline given by the show's own writer.
Yeah I get that, but like I said I'll just be happy if it's a fun watch in general.
it would be nice, but i'm catching a lot of red flags from this thing.
calling itself season 3 when it doesn't have anything to do with what season 3 could have been.
no plan to animate the rest of the season themselves without studio assistance.
people in charge of the project saying they met with original producers and that they got official word about certain things from them, even when it contradicts the producer's own words from recent interviews.
And all of that ignoring the part where Sega would probably never greenlight it.
exactly. Ian Flynn IS affiliated with sega, he DOES work for them. he wants to put the freedom fighters back in the comics and sega is telling him NO.
they don't even want the western cast back in comic form.
I think people forget that Sonic is a JAPANESE franchise creatively helmed by JAPANESE people, SatAM was a cartoon produced during the franchise’s infancy as a result of corporate politics muddling Sonic Team’s vision. Nobody who’s leading the brand now would care for SatAM, and why would they? It only had 2 seasons, its only relevancy comes from a discontinued comic SEGA barely looked at until they were faced with Penders’ nonsense front and center.
You think Iizuka knows what a "Bunnie Rabbot" is? Can you honestly say these characters still have a place in a post-Sonic Adventure world? When you have Tails as the resident genius, who needs Rotor? Blaze basically acts as the kickbutt princess who’s an equal to Sonic, so what does Sally offer besides romance, which the series makes a point to not really touch in detail.
The only thing you could do is change them drastically, but that more or less takes away from wanting them back in the first place.
now tell me all about the venerated place these characters will receive.
dude, the japanese characters aren't any better. if anything, they're worse because they're only around for 1 game and then shelved for eternity.
and they won't. fricking. stop. adding. MORE.
sega of japan doesn't even care about their OWN fricking characters.
>picks two different teams of characters with more than one appearance in the games
>one of which is intimately tied to a spin-off racing series with multiple titles and even got cameos in other game like Black Fricking Knight of all places.
>Doesn't use Emerl or that one fairy from the mario party rip-off
>Even Eggman Nega got multiple games and he is currently on the Do Not Use list
For me it's Infinite who was in one game and like Mephiles is not even allowed to be mentioned or hinted at in any capacity even in the comic which comes right after Forces.
>freedom fighters also appeared in spinoff games
>also only as cameos, just like the characters i posted. those characters were never the main focus again outside of their original games
>adds to my point by brining up even MORE characters that were binned
>look up Eggman Nega appearances, half of them are Sonic & Mario Olympic Games cameos
hey, anon, when do you think we'll be seeing Marine again?
in what? Sonic and Mario at the Olympic games?
Lost World, Forces, Speed Battle, IDW, Team Sonic Racing, Olympic Games, Sonic Racing
>the one game he had focus in, the one in which he first appeared
>a mobile game
>a comic
>a racing spinoff
>Olympic fricking Games
>another racing game
so exactly one (1) boss battle in Forces?
Zavok was in every thread so it's worse if you look at it from specifically a Cinemaphilener's point of view. To anyone else they just happened to see Zavok once or twice over the course of like 6 years.
>Zavok was a boss fight in multiple games
>Misses my point that the Babylon Rogues are tied to a certain spin-off series and its surprising they got nods otherwise
>Eggman Nega got both the rush games and the Rivals Games as mainline titles
If they ever make a Sonic Spinball Sequel sure the Freedom Fighters can come back but characters are used either for certain games as antagonists or are tied to certain game lines within the franchise.
The mainline games are by my estimation
>1-3&k
All characters involved besides the non Metal sonic sonic copies are brought back)
>Adventure 1&2
Chaos and bio-lizard are defeated and Gamma dies but the rest of the cast comes back
>Heroes
Omega is introduced and the Chaotix sans Mighty come into the mainline
>Shadow
Black Doom is btfo and otherwise no new characters are introduced
>06
This game is the biggest issue as despite Elise's involvement and Mephles existence getting erased they brought back Silver and Blaze
>Unleashed
Chip goes back to sleep but none of the human characters stick around
>Colors
The Whisp's have stuck around
>Generations
Literally a send up to the rest of the series
>Lost World
Zavok stuck around so long people started hating him
>Forces
Infinite was defeated
>Frontiers
The End is dead the Kokos are tied to the islands and Sage is around still.
Outside of 06 and Unleashed the mainline games have done pretty well in keeping all the introduced characters that are not killed off keep them around.
All the other "Sonic's Friends" are tied to spinoff titles and their relevance end with those titles unless sonic team want to bring them back to fulfill another role.
Frick I didn't mean to call Rush and Rivals mainline its past midnight where I live.
So I'm taking that as my Que to go to bed.
They are mainline, Rivals was Silver's debut and Rush is when we first met his love interest.
>see
>a mobile game
>a comic
>a racing spinoff
>Olympic fricking Games
>another racing game
so exactly one (1) boss battle in Forces?
>misses my point that all these new characters are made to prop up a single game and then regulated to spin-off series, never to really be explored again
>Eggman Nega coming in the lead with 4 appearances in mobile games. wow.
what about the characters that aren't explicitly used to be antagonists like Mirem? when do you think we'll be seeing her again, next Olympic Games? what about the characters that start off as antagonists and later turn good like Trip? can't wait to see her again for Sonic & Mario at the Paris Olympic Games 2024!
>1-3&K
how many Sonic characters did they have at this point? 6? Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Knuckles, Metal Sonic, Amy/Rosey? anon, the only characters that reappeared for those games was Sonic, Tails and Eggman. 3 characters. Metal Sonic got trotted out for, guess what, mobile games and cameos. Amy didn't come back until Adventure. Knuckles got Chatoix and that sold greeeeat, didn't it?
Adventure 1&2 is when Sonic Team finally tried to 'finalize' an actual cast, and they STILL kept adding new characters to every game afterward. Gamma is dead, makes sense he wouldn't come back.
>Heroes
oh look, new character. Omega. gets shelved until Shadow the Hedgehog.
>06
do we even really need to talk about this one?
>a bunch of one-off games
with a bunch of one-off new characters that are then regulated to cameos and mobile games
anon, the point is WHY DO THEY NEED TO KEEP ADDING? they haven't stopped. they're not going to stop. they don't let any of these characters stick around to have any sort of personal arc or growth or exploration. they just add new characters. they come up with new contrivances just to add new characters.
Sonic doesn't need any more new fricking characters.
>makes sense he wouldn't come back.
RECOVERY MODE
nah, the little animal that powers him is free.
Why you lyin brah
Zavok was shoved down our throats for like a straight DECADE
>JAPANESE
It's Sega's own fault that they fail to capitalize on the west liking Sonic more, instead we get Silver in almost everything and Blaze paired with him because apparently the japanese fans actually liked them in 06.
>muddling Sonic Team’s vision
Sonic Team never shared their vision back then, as much as they might hate the american stuff those cartoons were a big part of what fans liked about Sonic. I was never too into them at the time but I can see why people might be put off by Sega's complete refusal to acknowledge Archie or the shows in almost any major way.
>The only thing you could do is change them drastically, but that more or less takes away from wanting them back in the first place.
This part is true, but adding a version of the FFs would probably only benefit Sega since a lot of fans would buy whatever they're in, most likely the comics which already have 'the FFs at home' anyway, and probably not even mind that their backstories and designs had to be changed. Honestly the few people that think the FFs should be added into canon material with no changes are delusional, but most people understand there would need to be changes and accept it just for the sake of having canon FFs. It'd be good for them if it happened I guess, I think the FFs had a good run and that being in newer games and comics would only force them to be written as bland and boring since even the comics which used to be able to be more interesting are now just as milquetoast as the games.
Sonic Team never had a vision. it was a hedgehog fighting an egg who wanted to make a theme park. they made the shit up as they went.
the west knew it takes more than that, so they invented a cast of characters with actual, y'know, character. personality. a story arc.
i wonder how many copies of Dream Team these Sonic Team apologists have purchased.
If feels like their was a consistent but evolving vision from 3 up through 06, but 06 was so bad it broke the series momentum and forced it to rework itself.
Actually youtube told me 06 was secretly one of the good ones
I mean moreso that they just didn't bother to help the overseas licensed stuff with...anything. They let people become fans of a version of Sonic they were never going to have any interest in supporting, Sega is like shitty parents who don't help their kids at all but then include themselves as the reason their kids succeeded in life despite contributing almost nothing. I'm not the biggest Satam fan or anything but it's really lame to just abandon something they own that people like just because they didn't have a direct hand in it when they could capitalize on it for monetary gain, and it wouldn't bother me much except for the fact that they try so unnecessarily, so vehemently, so ridiculously hard to move heaven and earth in their quest to make """canon""" Sonic material as boring as humanly possible. You bring up Dream Team, that's a good example. There are things I like about it, focus on multiple playable characters, making Cream matter after shelving her for so long, Ariem a cute and has a more unique body than "Sonic with a different head," graphics and gameplay are supposedly better than usual, but the story is a snoozefest and Ariem's backstory is so bland that cotton has more flavor to it. It's almost worse when they actually try to have lore though with how bad Frontiers raped chao and Chaos by introducing everything about the Ancients. God awful fricking company, as far as Sonic goes Sega is like the Game Freak of video game companies if such a thing were to ever exist.
>calling itself season 3 when it doesn't have anything to do with what season 3 could have been.
It's *a* third season even if it isn't the official material, I guess. "Satam season 3 at home."
>no plan to animate the rest of the season themselves without studio assistance.
This part is moronic of them though.
it would have been nice to see something closer to what the season could have been. otherwise this is just another case of a series getting flayed and someone dancing around wearing the skin trying to pretend its still the thing it once was.
there's an awful lot of that these days.
I hope it goes well in the animated department but I really would liked if their fan comic started updating again. I liked it.
Dead is better
to do with the direction Sega wanted the show to go in
Sega didn't give a frick about SatAM beyond what they could use for brand licensing, and all of that went out the window when Adventure came out.
Wanna know how little a frick Sega gave about SatAM? They greenlit Underground, that's how little a frick Sega gave.
And nowadays they care even less.
The most Sega does nowadays is acknowledge them in a few fan art twitter posts as “American comic characters”. Soon we won’t even have that.
>Verification not required
Yeah, OP meant Ben Hurst*
As far as direction went, that was pretty much up to him, especially in Season 2. ABC did force him to make those Antoine episodes though… yes, those two episodes…
>especially in Season 2
No wonder season 1 was better.
What is it with Sonic and getting consistently put in the hands of autists who shit everything up? Penders, Hurst, Flynn, even Iizuka, there's frequent points where singular autists get too much influence without being tard-wrangled and frick everything up.
If you’re complaining about Dulcy, that was also another ABC mandate. Wanted to add another “female protagonist”.
I don’t see what was wrong with season 2 other than ABC-Mandated stuff, just as good as season 1 and the finale was beautiful.
Sally was written worse, the dynamic between her and Sonic was much more natural and better in season 1. In season 2 it felt like Hurst trying to make her his personal waifu.
apologize
I don’t get it.
Also, I don’t really hate Dulcy that much. I know that she wasn’t a popular addition though
here's what i honestly believe.
the games were the main focus. the cartoons and the comics were just supplementary materials to help sell the games.
they gave so little a shit about them, they didn't even keep any of the paperwork. ANY of it. they've got no receipts. which is how Ken was able to get his hands on "his" characters in the first place.
look at the shit sega let Archie get away with in the comics. they didn't care as long as the checks kept coming on time.
>they gave so little a shit about them, they didn't even keep any of the paperwork. ANY of it. they've got no receipts. which is how Ken was able to get his hands on "his" characters in the first place.
Actually, that was Archie. They lost his work for hire contract in a fire.
yeah but DiC has been sold and resold so many times now, i doubt any of that survived either. have we ever even seen a copy of the original Sonic Bible?
Source on that? I keep hearing that but where did this report originally come from?
It's in Archie's legal filings where they admit they lost the original of the contract but did have a copy. This didn't mean Penders automatically won, it just meant the lawsuit proceedings would take longer as the court verified whether the copy was genuine or not. The reason why Archie settled is because Sega didn't care about the comics and wanted the lawsuit gone immediately.
Not only that, while Archie did frick yo, the court documents available online reveal that the court decision boiled down to Archie admitting that Sega was the true owner of all characters involved in Archie. So the court asked Sega to enter. Sega refused. And so Archie was forced to settle.
This all could have been saved if Sega helped Archie but they just didn’t care.
This is one of the reasons why Archie eventually just gave up on the license. Too expensive and Sega kept leaving them out to be dragged.
frick up*
Sega of America cared about making Sonic an all-purpose entertainment mascot. That's why they used SatAM and AoStH characters outside of those cartoons, letting the comics use them, letting Underground put in an OC echidna from the comics, letting kids books use them, putting them in Spinball and Mean Bean Machine, even putting them in stage shows and theme parks. SoA absolutely cared about all that. It's also why we know Penders never owned anything because SoA owned all of it.
SoJ didn't which is why it all went away when they took more control in the Adventure era. It's why Sega today doesn't give a frick about Penders because all the stuff SoA owns is meaningless to them.
correct. the shows and comics were always the purview of sega of america, and sega of america stopped being relevant the moment the company became Sega Sammy Holdings.
It's funny to me how disdainful Sega of Japan is of Sonic material made and released in the only country in the world that ever gave a shit about Sonic.
Like, what brand are they trying to protect? Are they still delusionally holding on to hope that they can make Sonic popular in Japan so they have to quarantine all those filthy gaijin ideas?
that's exactly what they're doing, yes.
they resent the freedom fighters because they had nothing to do with their creation, but this is the company that puts a new character in every game and then never uses them again.
sega has a cast for Sonic, and they won't fricking stop adding to it.
it's a losing strategy, but when has sega ever had a problem with sticking to a losing strategy?
>it's a losing strategy
Apparently not. People will buy the games just for the story andcutscenes even if the gameplay is shit
.
>People will buy the games
eeeehhh
Superstars "failed to meet Sega's expectations" btw. and i doubt Dream Team will do much better, locked away on Apple.
p.s. Sega still hasn't released Forces' sales figures to this day
Superstars doesn't have le epic kino dark storytelling that moderngays need
That’s because it was competing with games like Mario Wonder, Spider-Man and Assassin’s Creed
but Sonic has always been competing with Mario. at least until Sega went under and started making games for the competition.
>It's funny to me how disdainful Sega of Japan is of Sonic material made and released in the only country in the world that ever gave a shit about Sonic.
This is incorrect when you consider the fact they adopted Sonic playing guitar and his love of chili-dogs into the games. Not even including Uekawa’s 'Modern Sonic' redesign takes heavy cues from the US Sonic, and Sticks (a Sonic BOOM character) being name-dropped and included in material such as Sonic Channel and the Olympic Games.
It's less "SOJ hates everything SOA did with Sonic" and more so "Sonic Team is picky and mainly includes things they either like or were involved in"
>chili-dogs
I'm glad they kept this but I hate that it's literally the only food the games characters mention now. Chili dogs were Sonic's favorite but apparently they're everybody's favorite now. Way to kill what made it special.
>Sticks
Made by Sonic Team, the more surprising inclusion was the Tangle namedrop.
>"Sonic Team is picky and mainly includes things they either like or were involved in"
Reminds me of Kirby games for the longest time ignoring anything but Super Star since that was Sakurai's game.
>and Sticks
was removed from Sonic Frontiers in Japan
For nostalgia and wanted to see archie comic sonic tier knuckles and super sonic.
I mean Mobius was a good setting, the dark stuff didn't all work with it but I did like it for what it was. Robotnik was more menacing and robotisized felt scary when it could happen to sonic. But when Ken Penders kept getting worse and DiC that can't manage anything, just fell to shit.
Did you guys know DiC had a history of just doing a shit job managing all their content? Just bad move after bad move.
I watched a video on their history, DiC doesn't deserve the goodwill their cartoons gave them.
Yeah sounds like they were using it as a way to launder money or something.
There's a reason why the did a lot of outsourcing
Yeah. But every studio seemed to be outsourcing.
Westerners are too lazy to animate and even if they weren't, companies are too cheap to pay animators a decent wage and don't have the culture and honor for it like Japan does, animators to western companies are just replaceable drones.
Well I am speaking earlier in the 90s. It was also a work around of the animators unions. IT was less being lazy and more making the maximum shows with little cost. Thing is that Japan Now is doing this a lot and it's south Korean or Taiwan or France.
It's funny how this business is so used to being as cheap as possible and expect enormous profit from it.
Well that's corporate mindset for you
>During the time it's taking to get this one (1) episode of this SatAM revival out, Tamers12345 has made more episodes of Underground revival series than the original series, longer run-time too
They should really just do some kind of slideshow thing with minimal movement like some of those Sonic shorts from a few years ago with the sketch drawing style.
reminder sonic underground nonronically gets new episodes and even movies all the time and they're fricking amazing.
I don't believe you.
It's that child like circles. It's horrible.
today I will remind them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDWHq86B0I4
You can't just show someone the sequel to an earth shattering event for their first episode
All I've seen for sea3on is the OP image and them trying to hype up something actually coming from it by telling people it exists, as far as I'm concerned it's vaporware.
How does it feel knowing that the only successful long running fan continuations are for StC and Underground, two of the most obscure Sonic media?
bad
i liked SatAM 🙁
>itt: sea3on realizes they have no direction and anonymously ask for ideas
that would probably be better than what they're actually doing
Where is our AoStH fan continuation that we've all been begging for?
Its called the high quality YTPs
Unironically a Mean Bean Machine 2 (actually starring the puto cast and sonic together) would sell buttloads compared to the usual for the series.
All this arguing and I don't even know what this is
the first two posts kind of sum it up
now that they've copied BotW and Mario Wonder, they're out of things to copy off Nintendo. and with them focusing on this "super game" project, brining back all these old IPs, it may be a while before we see another Sonic game that isn't mobile.
They'll copy TotK and reuse Frontiers' map but with new cyberspace stages
can someone put a rope texture on the ring
Leave shatam to us.
Leave Power Shitters to us.
jesus christ there were SO MANY western sentai shows in the early 90s
>Wants to bring back the show that pretty much destroyed Sonic in non-game media
>Not the cartoon that was actually good and highly underrated
FYI, the guys behind SATAM went on to make the trainwreck known as Sonic Underground
>pretty much destroyed Sonic in non-game media
that was Archie. and Sonic Team did a fine job destroying him in game media.
the guys were called in for Sonic Underground last minute and knew it was shit from the beginning, they just needed work.
also i'm tired of this AoStH and SatAM division. i watched both. there was room enough for both.
