Even though Greenland is often grouped under Denmark, one of the other reasons it's sometimes excluded is because its population is a mere 56000 spread over a 2mill kilometer square region. The town I live in has 44000 people and I can count the number of high flats in it on one hand.

I say this as an Amerimutt, but the Chinas and the Irans and the Russias have broken what used to be a beloved American institution. The playbook Disney plays by is that if any change feels a path of resistance, like say gay rights or gun forfiture instead of wearing a seat belt or larger companies, the playbook dictates that they focus all in on shaming anyone who is against that. And a lot of the time over a few years anyone under the pressure relents. Look how fast it was for Americans to say "Washington Football Team" instead of Redskins. But a few nations broke the playbook. Sure, there are still about 50% of Americans who haven't been slow boiled enough to give in, but really once it's more than 25% the fight goes terminal. Instead, Disney's on fire. It's the public face of a system that had so many points of friction and so many stress fractures from hard fought smaller battles, that it's crumpling. And it's going to come to a head this fall. Already they're arresting their political opponents in an attempt to put on the facade and it just keeps getting worse for them. This is the 1980's for the Soviets all over again, but on a much larger scale.

Here's a javelin throwing metal, because you just threw that goalpost clear across the fricking city.

The goalposts are right there in the headline. A Disney animated movie hasn't had an openly gay lead.

            Anonymous

Making things increasingly more specific is still goalpost moving. What's next? The first gay lead in the MCU? The first gay lead in a live-action? The first gay lead with a disability? The first black gay lead? I guarantee you within the year Disney will have more gay leads that are increasingly specific to feign wokeness.

              Anonymous

I get it, but a lead is significant considering the snarking and b***hing that occurs when the gay character is in the background or extremely easy to miss. Making a gay lead with a gay romance is worth a headline. Doesn't mean it's going to be good.

                Anonymous

We'll see how they handle it in foreign markets. Remember, the only reason Disney does it is to make headlines and because it's legal. If a gay character automatically made something PG13 they would erase them overnight.

This person has no idea what they're talking about, Disney lost almost $1 billion on streaming in their earnings report, it's one of the main reasons why their stock has been down more than the rest of the market.
Disney+ isn't even expected to be profitable for Disney until 2024, but that was before they lost the license for streaming cricket in India (a large market for Disney+ since they own Hotstar), so chances are it won't turn a profit in 2024 either.

SVOD has been a loss leader for most of the major media companies - Disney included. No one sensible is spending $200 million on a movie expecting it to flop in theatres and be saved by streaming.

People don't seem to understand how SVOD ate most of the ways they make money off of content. No one buys home video anymore (physical or DTO). No one watches TV anymore (which had content licensing, ad and subscription revenue). Fewer people go to the theatres. Streaming is a shitty way to make money. Content has an even shorter shelf life as audiences completely drop off the moment a show is no longer marketed or part of the public conversation. That means a never-ending stream of content must be produced. As these services are global, they're now being forced by governments to fund content that likely no one will watch.

Animation takes years to make. This movie was in the oven well before Lightyear flopped. The question is if their slate of movies in the next 2-3 years will do the same. The company is filled with weirdo activists, so unless investors demand their expulsion I wouldn't be optimistic.

Lightyear was in development since 2016, according to wikipedia. Leftists and /misc/tards both want to pretend for politcal purposes that it was due to the out-of-place gay couple in it that the movie failed, when it was due to being an undercooked, boring, stale, empty story that makes The Adventures of Pluto Nash actually worth watching.

Why do they announce these stuffs first? Why is it that the first thing I heard about the next big movie is not the plot or the directors or even some cool visuals? It's always the woke news first.
This is why people call it forced inclusion and pandering. Because they don't treat it as a movie. For them it's just an outlet to show how progressive they are. Alphabet people should be the most mad about this, they're being used as a marketing tool rather than just human beings

      Anonymous

I'm going to tell you the single reason they do it; "It makes people defend your movie". That's it, there are many vocal people out there who will explode in your face and harass you if you DARE to criticize an LGBT person for any reason. Case in point, this was criticized for being unfunny, garbage, and not worth watching and was almost universally panned. Almost IMMEDIATELY the pre-written articles came out blaming racism and misogyny.

The articles that criticize the critics are ALL pre-written. All of them. If there was a rule that they couldn't reference or quote someone with less than 5000 followers on Twitter for their shit takes, it would obliterate that bullshit overnight.
