they're all alive and ignoring Dark Crisis in their own books. DC is a mess narratively and nothing but a ground zero reboot can fix what is going

If I was EIC at DC I'd make a hard 10 year plan for who debuts when, Month 1 only Superman and Batman are out, Month 2 add Wonder Woman, Month 3 add the Flash Month 24 Superman gets married to Lois, Month 36 Jon Kent is born so on and so on.
keep it going for 10 years till the core DCU is fleshed out and do an event where at the end the books no longer come out in 1:1 real timescale, similar to how after the Death of Gwen Stacy Spider-Man stopped aging.
the main books will be be for strict continuity stuff and should be collected in a seasonal trade format, Batman 1-4 would be Batman Spring 2024, and need for longer stories could be done in minis written for trade.

        >If I was EIC at DC I'd make a hard 10 year plan

That's basically what Didio wanted to do

        Anonymous

That shit doesn't work. Rebooting is the communism of big 2 comics. Everyone thinks they'll be the one to make it work and that their perfect plan for the "true" timeline will be the one that sticks. It doesn't.

          Anonymous

          >That shit doesn't work.

The sad thing is that it COULD.

They literally spent years planning COIE and Diane Nelson gave Didio and Lee barely a few months to crank out Nu52 but both projects and other hard/soft reboots are so focused the event that they never spent enough time considering what would immediately follow them and never had a management structure to hold it in place and it always falls apart in about 18-24 months. I'm convinced Didio was really trying to make 5G stable but it kind of destroyed him in the process.

Also? Modern editors just don't give a shit anymore, neither do execs.

      >Didn't the Justice League just die? What happened there?
They're just locked in dream worlds outside of the local multiverse. It was what happened with Barry, so it was strongly implied from the start and spoiled by solicits.

          Anonymous

The same shit we've had for 30 years.

Even post-Crisis when there was only one "main" Earth, they still had scores of Elseworld stories.

All it really amounted to was folding 2 and 1 together.

So, now I am officially lost as to why DC is making such a big deal out of all of this multiverse shit. Just reboot already, because after Infinite Frontier the entire timeline is a fricking apocalyptic mess.

                >but they can never fully get rid of all the bagage

              Anonymous

You can't keep a minor character dead in modern comic, straight up removing decades of continuity is impossible. The closest they ever got was the new 52 and when it innevitably got undone, DC continuity was made into the mess it is today.

                Anonymous

It's not a mess though. Its only casuals who get confused by that. Like, what needs to be clarified to you?

                what is canon
                >everything

                Anonymous

If everything is canon then nothing is. Because it's a contradictory mess.

Editors at DC might think they're clever with their one-liners, but they don't have any coherent time-line. Even in the recent guidebook we were shown a sliding time-scale that showed that the heroes had only been around for 10-20 years.

This is, why this new attempt will fail and why we can expect a new Crisis come 2024.

                Anonymous

Contradictory events took place in previous iteration of the universe, yet they still happened. It's past lives. It's not a difficult concept to wrap your head around.

    Don't care. Multiverses are boring.

      Anonymous

      This.

It was cute back in the Silver/Bronze age with the annual JLA/JSA crossovers with some but now it seems like DC/Marvel rely on capeshit multiverses for ancillary reasons that don't involve trying to tell a good story.

Writers can create alternate versions of established characters that are just different enough from the originals to qualify for a measure royalties/participation and the push them like fricking crazy (Batman Who Laughs).

Publishers are using the multiverse to create as many gender/racial/sexually diverse variants of core characters by talent who matches the characters diversity, which isn't bad per se but it looks like Marvel and DC are in some kind of diversity arms race to show them off as quickly as possible just long enough to get some kind of media nod and some applause from Twitter. And again? Most of the stuff isn't very good but it's hailed because it's 'important' to everyone except anybody that actually buys and sells comics.

      Anonymous

Check out Elric: the balance lost if you think multiverse stories all suck. When done right crossovers can be great. Its only capeshit multiverses that are overly complicated.

Convergence didn't just bring back the infinite multiverse, it changed the ending of COIE. It was such insane nonsense that didn't line up with anything that there was no choice but to ignore it. You cant change the ending of COIE because you'd butterfly effect away like 40 years of stories.
