Is this yet another example of media that
fell from grace for being
>subversive for subversion's sake
Maybe the show was doomed to from
the start since its themes are deliberately
about not fulfilling the sort of anti-hero
fantasy so many shows indulge in.
And it went on for too long.
Had the show been a miniseries and didn't
build up so much anticipation for what
amounts to lame gags, maybe its
ending would have been less reviled.
NoHo Hank was done well, though. Glad
he didn't just continued being zany gay
character.

Did the show peak too early? Season 1 & 2 are so good in comparison to Season 3 & 4
Holy shit Bill Hader aged terribly in 5 years
42-43 is the male wall.
I know he looks older but what specifically is making him look older? is it the hair loss?
Yeah, his hairline is receding and his skin has gotten a lot saggier. He also looked like he was actually working out for the initial seasons of the show. He clearly gave that up
Mr Inbetween was the vastly superior black comedy based on the same premise.
>Mr Inbetween
holy shit yeah. i love this show
>that last scene in the car
FRICKING KINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Mr Inbetween is one of the best shows I've seen in the last decade. Its so vastly superior to Barry they're hardly worth comparing
Peak fricking Aussie kino. Thank you KangarooBlack folk for making such good shit
crazy to think this and the pseudo prequel movie is all he's ever made. i hope he's working on something else, it was a masterpiece. the season 2 finale was the first thing in years to make me well up
He's fricking wonderful. Usually these writer, director, producer, actor types are fricking terrible. Like Bill Hader. But Scott Ryan fricking nailed everything. He's actually a proper actor. At 50 years old, I guess it shouldn't be surprising. He's got a lot of mileage.
It's a shame Hollywood doesn't hire people like Ryan and go after people like JJ, Awkwafina and whoever the frick. Love to see something like Mr Inbetween with an even bigger budget
>Hey man, me again…
>Just wanted to let you know I’m STILL KOSHER.
Almost gave up on it because of how stupid the season 1 finale was. Probably one of the worst plotted episodes I've ever seen. But it gets so much better in season 2 and season 3
didn't Hader want to be "le serious actor" like Cranston in BB, but had to pitch it as a comedy to get it greenlit
I think this is headcanon cope. Comedians can't approach anything without comedy and sincerity because they're afraid of doing something serious and being mocked
I genuinely enjoyed every season. It could’ve just stuck to the season 1 formula because it’s enjoyable and repeated the same beats but it’s great to see totally different dynamics every season
Plus the ending was nailed for me.
I agree that it went on too long, really should've cut some scenes for every secondary character
the biggest issue for me though is how everyone got what they deserved except Fuches, the one person who deserved to eat shit and suffer got away unscathed
and also how Sally just said "yeah, let's go" after Barry escaped prison, really feel like there should've been more there
lmao yeah Fuches getting away was such bullshit. Barry should have fricking killed him on sight
Fuches timeskip transformation was also forced, he's old as frick, I doubt he'd change that much in his old age
>Oh, me?
>Like I said, don’t worry guys… I’M KOSHER!
are you trying to be an incel stereotype as a joke or do you just happen to be one?
>GUYS, GUYS, Guys…..
>I’m only going to say this one more time so, listen up.
>I AM KOSHER, I HAVE THE INSIDE BASEBALL, YOU GET IT?
You know you get suspended for spam, right dumbass?
>You know you get suspended for spam, right dumbass?
where did you get this picture of mandy patinkin?
it was the perfect ending for a show like this
if you thought barry the serial killer schizo would get a happy ending, you're delusional/ schizo yourself
Name one type of these shows/movies that has a happy ending.
Obviously the antihero has to die. The problem is that nothing in the finale felt satisfying. It was purposeful but I still didn't like it
>not fulfilling the sort of anti-hero fantasy so many shows indulge in
Yeah. This show denied audiences a satisfactory ending because every modern Hollywood show thinks catharsis in stories is a bad thing. Which is why no one wants to watch movies or shows anymore. This only appeals to pseudointellectuals and not the average person who just wants to see a fun story than something that jerks itself off because of "smart" it is
McLovin in the fricking house!!!
Bill Hader peaked in SuperBad
He peaked in Power Rangers as Alpha AYIYIYIYIYIY
>static camera shot
>bill pacing back and forth
>AAAAA I'M ACTING
>this goes on for 5 minutes
>swtich to the woman segment
>nothing happenes for 10 minutes
that's pretty much the whole of season 4
oh wow
the latter half of this was brilliant, so much better than the first
This show always sucked. Literally the only decent episode was the weed smoking karate guy
Why does everyone hate the later seasons of Barry? God forbid a show actually changes the status quo
Too much focus on lame secondary characters that do nothing but pad out a pretty minimalist story. Lame Hollywood commentary that gets more preachy and annoying as the show goes on. Barry shouldn't have gone on for 4 seasons at all. Should have wrapped it at 3
I don't think Bill Hader expected for this show to be a hit. I think he thought it would probably be canceled after 1 or 2 seasons. Because after season 1 and 2, this show just goes off the fricking rails and it's clear that they don't have anywhere really interesting to go with it. Which makes sense because there's only so many ways you can stretch the premise of "hitman wants to be an actor." So they have to throw in all of these fricking subplots and cover a lean piece of meat with a bunch of fat it doesn't need.
Big problem with modern tv. There's usually only one or a couple story threads that are halfway interesting and then like fricking 9 filler arcs that they keep shoving down your throat to pad things out
redeemed by a good final episode, kind of the opposite of BCS
BCS's ending was shockingly bad. I'll give you that. You know shit's rough when Bill Hader pulls off a better finale than Vince Gilligan
Redeemed? The show ends with a fricking moronic joke
It was a funny joke tho. Maybe a bit too SNL for my taste but it’s Bill Hader so
so im in the minority in prefaring the second half to first? i thought it was much better, the first was ok
I fricking hate this unfunny twat and his shitty punchable face.
>deliberately
about not fulfilling the sort of anti-hero
fantasy so many shows indulge in.
People self inserted as Barry? What the frick is wrong with you?
