I was watching Phantom Menace and everyone felt like a robot until Anakin showed up. He was the first human in that story.
How did Jake get so much flack for that shit?
Because everyone up to that point in the story are monks and politicians. I don't think Jake deserved the hate but it was obvious he was hard work to film with. The scene where they have dinner in particular you can tell it took a long time to shoot just from how some of the older actors deliver their lines. Portman was terrible in that scene you can tell she wanted out of there.
Listen.
It would be weird if Star Wars politicians would all be pedophiles who go to war for Israel and oil in the middle east when the US has it's own oil (and the Earth makes oil), and Canada has oil, and South America has oil, and South America has NEW oil close to the US.
Everyone would be wondering why the hell they're so concerned with a planet we've never seen so far.
Mentally ill Star Wars fans and Red Letter Media types found it righteous and justified to lynch a child because he supposedly maligned their beloved franchise.
Star Wars was never really any good.
But the prequels are unironically unwatchable garbage. Attack of the Clones is so fricking bad I turned it off after 20 minutes. I watched it as a kid and liked it, but it is unwatchable as an adult. Phantom Menace is awful and I couldn't even bring myself to watch the third one.
Of the originals, only Jedi Strikes back is any good. The other two suck. Force Awakens is mediocre and I didn't watch the other two. Star Wars is not a good franchise.
What's wrong with the actual movie version of events, where jar jar is just way smarter and more capable than what his (honestly) racist companions believe or can even comprehend?
He has skill, he has supreme luck, he is loved by the force and he managed to ride a wave into senatorial status and become part of palpatine's inner clique.
That's a success story right there, but he's intolerably "annoying" so people must contort into pretzel shapes to come up with alternative truth to cope
Truly the worst thing about the sequels and the shitty disney star wars properties is that it has convinced a large group of people to pretend to like the prequels out of pure spite.
Its okay to acknowledge that Star Wars is all shit besides the first two movies.
That's been my take on it since around TLJ.
Instead of a series where there's 2 good movies and 4 mediocre to dogshit ones, it's now a series with 2 good movies and 9 mediore to dogshit ones.
They're not good by themselves, it's just that Disney has ruined the brand so badly that the sequels simply look better in comparison because they were made by George and not Kathleen Kennedy
3 is the best Star Wars movie. Not that that is saying a hell of a lot. Star Wars has always been overrated garbage with the exception of some EU type stuff.
Something being shittier does not retroactively make shit good. The prequels still suck, it’s just that the new ones are worse. The real red pill is that there has only been one good Star Wars movie, and American Graffiti was George Lucas’ magnum opus.
I think there is decent enough story idea there however, it needs to be retooled - which gets the issue that no one was offering Lucas any meaningful feedback. The kino stuff about the Prequels is things like vehicle design, alien design, costuming, music etc. At the very least, for whatever its flaws (there are many), the Prequel era offers something new and is an interesting period; compare it to the Sequels that that have little creativity and as a setting feels hollow.
The prequels are objectively terrible it's a bit like saying ah well that bout of diarrhea was better than this bout of diarrhea. You've still shit yourself.
AotC was absolutely shit, a genuine borefest. Phantom Menace and RotS were watchable but Lucas really needed someone to tard wangle him. The originals are far better even with the ewoks crap.
t. didn't watch any of the Disney era slop
He's already forgotten. I see maybe one RLM thread once every other day. I remember whenever they'd post a video they'd be threads hitting the bump limit, people against and defending them. No one cares anymore about those lazy homosexuals. They'll only ever be mentioned in passing out of the mouths of jaded prequel haters that are still clinging to the same opinions and views from almost 20 fricking years ago.
No
There were two good and one semi ok Star Wars movies made way back in the late 70s-early 80s
And there it ended. They didn't do anything else, three movies that's it.
Disney sequels being bad does not make the prequels good. The prequels were bad. Even as a kid I could tell the film was bad by how the actors delivered their lines. It felt boring. I also didn't know why some of the characters were there or what their purpose was. I did like the music and fight scene at the end but I was a kid.
>dad buys a dvd player and it comes with phantom menace >excited to watch it because I've never seen SW but i have seen the toys and the characters everywhere >it's a boring piece of shit
turned me off the franchise forever, my friend had to basically bribe me with weed to watch the OT with him which was alright for the most part.
I will never forgive the Sequels for tricking people who don't understand nuance into thinking the Prequals were good. Yes, they were SOVLful and I'd take even AotC over most of the Disney era shit but that doesn't make them GOOD.
They weren't soulful. They were highly commercialized products mostly made on computers that shoved shit in to try to appeal to every demographic by a guy who barely cared about making them.
But as a setup to the background world pre empire it did more than enough
The general plot is also not bad in the sense nonsensical but rather not refine enough
Just by making Anakin older like around teenager 15/16 should be able to express a lot things properly like how he is truly too old (near adult) to change his core mindset like not able to take lost well
The romace would probably flow a lot smoother than instead of puppy love it got fueled by teenage lust
If anything Disney should try to do a retell of the prequels if George is willing and present as a alternative universe thing
No, because they are NOT kino. They all have massive moron-tier plot holes just to advance hack Lucas's plot. You children with your nostalgia and your memes overlook it, but anyone with half a brain can see how shit these films are. Time changes nothing.
what are you talking about ? Star Wars is a standalone movie, no canon movie or series comes after they put the medals on the heroes of death star assault.
This sci fi author is kind of a soyy, but his ideas for salvaging the prequels are unironically kino: https://web.archive.org/web/20200115185020/http://www.robertjacksonbennett.com/blog/if-id-written-the-prequels
Of course not. They have good ideas in them, but the overall execution is amateurish at best. TPM is like the family friendly one: fun, but in a
turn-your-brain-off way. AOTC is the worst of them; sequel-tier garbage, utterly boring. ROTS is the best one, but it drags on for too long at times (the Sidious-Anakin temptation dynamic, or the whole Mustafar section), making it a chore to watch. The ending also tries too hard to make everything fit nicely with the way things are at the beginning of Star Wars.
Always knew they were great. The dog piling from all the media from television to journalism at the time all had a hard on for hating on the prequels.
Growing older and learning how a certain tribe holds majority control over all these industries and Lucas specifically did the films outside of the Hollywood influence...well its just jealous and spiteful israelites. Look at what they did once they got the franchise away from George. They destroyed it.
>The dog piling from all the media from television to journalism at the time all had a hard on for hating on the prequels.
Except most hate came from fans. It wasn't astroturfed by media. >Look at what they did once they got the franchise away from George.
Lol, "they got the franchise away". Lucas SOLD IT because he didn't stand the hate anymore.
I wonder if prequel haters have seen the movies recently. The choices George made are starting to pay off and will continue to pay off. His classical direction and “wooden dialog” choices actually did work, the movies feel timeless. I was shocked by how compelling the narrative of TPM was and how little the RLM neurotic nitpick criticisms mattered at all. Thinking of all the “classic movies” of the 80s that Mike used of examples of how to do better…I fricking hate all that consumerist 80s trash. I can watch the Prequels on repeat because there is always something new to notice and the political and philosophical questions will always fascinate in a new way depending on what is going on in the present day.
padme's design there is why i can respect the prequels. she legitimately looks fricking goofy there, and that's a creative risk to take. there's a lot of shit like that in the prequels. they don't all work, but it's nice that they at least tried with stuff like that. meanwhile, no character in the sequels has any design that stands out in my mind outside of the orange midget with the space goggles on that's there for 5 minutes
>I can watch the Prequels on repeat because there is always something new to notice and the political and philosophical questions will always fascinate in a new way depending on what is going on in the present day.
Stop. The prequels have politics and philosophy for 12 years olds.
For me it was the opposite. I had fond memories of TPM, rewatched it relatively recently and I cringed all the time.
padme's design there is why i can respect the prequels. she legitimately looks fricking goofy there, and that's a creative risk to take. there's a lot of shit like that in the prequels. they don't all work, but it's nice that they at least tried with stuff like that. meanwhile, no character in the sequels has any design that stands out in my mind outside of the orange midget with the space goggles on that's there for 5 minutes
On the other hand, I don't find the costume design bad at all. Pretty good actually. BTW Padme's clothing is taken from some asian princess, chinese or mongolian IIRC
Phantom Menace is dogshit with some workable parts, allowing it to not be a total disaster in the grand scheme of the series. Aoc is similar. The sequel trilogy movies are dogshit and also a total disaster in the grand scheme of the series. That's really the big difference.
I genuinely liked this as a kid. Even though i knew there was something off about it, I liked that it felt alien - a world where everything had that frutiger aero aesthetic.
Man, the scene where the droids are deployed is still kino to this day. There's something about them unfolding all at once and marching in lockstep that makes me smile every time I see it, it's just a shame they became nothing more then comedy fodder in the sequels
They're not kino but at least they feel like Star Wars. Very mediocre Star Wars, but still Star Wars. It wasn't until the sequels that I learned to value that.
Nah, I've watched the prequels for the first time before Force awakens came out and the thing that pissed me off the most was that it felt like a completely different universe and style of storytelling compared to the OT, which was far more magical and timeless
That's because the sequels were a bland rehash of stories already told (the Force Awakens was basically ANH but far worse) while the prequels actually tried to tell a new story. Also, people overrate the frick out of the original movies. They were bland as frick heroes journey propped solely by special effects and a genius idea from Lucas about the lightsabers.
frick no. we were promised KINO and given slop. I wanted the cold faced clones that tried to take over that lando mentioned in the thrawn books.
we had the entire EU to draw from and all we got was George Lucas getting stroked off by yes men, when he needed NO men to get things done. every autist can succeed with the proper NO man assisting them.
wasnt that after Lucas sold it? and Wendig has pedo blackmail, thats why he got the gig, and he didnt even write the book. disney hires ghostwriters out of the thrifty nickel.
The prequels still had very good worldbuilding. That was the only thing I liked about them back then. I look on episode II a lot more harshly though these days because what the frick was Lucas thinking holy shit.
It has great, good and very very bad elements all in the same movie(s).
That fricking kid sucks and he always sucked, to start with.
Dodgy special effects, but not consistently bad. Overwhelmingly bad dialogue.
The jedi fights were great though, as with the podracing.
I can't hate, it just disappoints that they could've been far better than what was delivered.
It has become exceedingly clear to me that the prequel backlash was literally just boomers seething about a new series of movies being different (and thus bad).
It's nice to see seething fanboy boomers forced to watch as disney wipes their ass with the franchise. They get to see what an ACTUALLY bad star wars movie looked like. Well deserved. All the while the prequels are vindicated in retrospect
TPM was the only decent film in the prequels, because it felt like it was taking place in real locations and didn’t seem like a cartoon. Also, Hayden Christianson never felt right as Anakin and those other two films just seemed incredibly rushed and sloppily thrown together, like they were made for TV. Even the epic fight scene in the lava just looked crazy like a looney tunes. Fever dream garbage.
lefty/misc/ troon discord endlessly defends everything dumb stupid and lame about star wars and endlessly spams and floods the board because they are also the jannies
Frick outta here
>t. Reddit letter media drone
Go frick ya mudda.
I was watching Phantom Menace and everyone felt like a robot until Anakin showed up. He was the first human in that story.
How did Jake get so much flack for that shit?
>YIPEEEEE
He tried but George's writing and directing is so ass he was practically set up to fail
Nah he was cute; innocent and had a giant heart
All those things were NOT MUH VADER so scores of incensed 30-something nerds descended upon him like locusts for the rest of his life.
Also child actor = schizo so the guy never had a chance in truth
Because everyone up to that point in the story are monks and politicians. I don't think Jake deserved the hate but it was obvious he was hard work to film with. The scene where they have dinner in particular you can tell it took a long time to shoot just from how some of the older actors deliver their lines. Portman was terrible in that scene you can tell she wanted out of there.

They totally fricking don't tho.
Listen.

Jake LLoyd was an adult when the Plinkett reviews came out.
Jar Jar is a lot of things but he's not robotic
Never. They were the first push down the slope of fail because Lucas the hack pandered to mindless children.

I pick all three

I always recognised the prequels for the "kino" that they are
RLMbros, what are we gonna do??
Star Wars was never really any good.

>Jedi Strikes back
?
I watched a fan edit where they took out jar jar and it was enjoyable still.
But jar jar is one of the most important character of the prequel trilogy
Jarjar makes it watchable and sith lord jarjar is the way the story should have developed.
Darth jarjar is the way
As a kid I liked TPM because of Maul and the podrace, but I've disliked Attack of the Clones as long as I can remember.
I grew up with the prequels. They were my Star Wars. I'm not going to pretend I ever hated them. George did nothing wrong.
Truly the worst thing about the sequels and the shitty disney star wars properties is that it has convinced a large group of people to pretend to like the prequels out of pure spite.
Its okay to acknowledge that Star Wars is all shit besides the first two movies.
the prequels were better than the original trilogy
Said no one ever
The story of the PT has a beginning, a middle and an end that's all connected, the OT was made up as it went along
Would you rather eat dried up shit that has lost its potency or a fresh steaming pile of shit?
That's been my take on it since around TLJ.
Instead of a series where there's 2 good movies and 4 mediocre to dogshit ones, it's now a series with 2 good movies and 9 mediore to dogshit ones.
Phantom Menace is a perfectly fine movie, it just doesn't live up to 20 years of hype which very few things, if anything, could.
Shut the frick up, you are 50 years old, go take care of your children
Everyone’s favorite character was always Maul, I don’t know why you would act surprised
I liked them well enough in the first place
Episodes 1 and 3 are kino. I do not care for 2 though, probably the worst episode after 8 and 9 for me.
They're not good by themselves, it's just that Disney has ruined the brand so badly that the sequels simply look better in comparison because they were made by George and not Kathleen Kennedy
3 is the best Star Wars movie. Not that that is saying a hell of a lot. Star Wars has always been overrated garbage with the exception of some EU type stuff.

there's so much funny racism in these movies. George knew exactly what he was doing
OT are great. RotS is pretty good. Every other SW movie can go to hell.
Heh, me? I DISLIKE the prequels. Yeah, didn’t see that coming did you? I guess I’m just built different. No need to be jealous

what are you talking about ? Star Wars is a standalone movie, no canon movie or series comes after they put the medals on the heroes of death star assault.
If George didn't do it, it ain't SW brother
Empire isn't Star Wars?
Go back to watching Acolyte kek
Go back to watching that Obi-Wan show that George loved so much.
The only modern Star Wars show worth giving a crap is Andor, which is far superior to the prequels
Sure dude, are you a Disney shareholder?
Not watching that boring slop
>Sure dude, are you a Disney shareholder?
Lol no, but George Lucas is.
So, Empire strikes back isn't Star Wars?

Normies simply follow the trends.

Stop. The prequels have politics and philosophy for 12 years olds.
And yet they are continuously misunderstood by basically every single member of "fandom" and have been for decades
That's because Star Wars fans have the intelligence of a 5 years old kid.
Yet OTgays and RLMcucks to this day still can't understand Palpatines plan. Alex Jones explaines it easily 20 years ago and people are confused.
For me it was the opposite. I had fond memories of TPM, rewatched it relatively recently and I cringed all the time.
On the other hand, I don't find the costume design bad at all. Pretty good actually. BTW Padme's clothing is taken from some asian princess, chinese or mongolian IIRC

What movies?
Phantom Menace is dogshit with some workable parts, allowing it to not be a total disaster in the grand scheme of the series. Aoc is similar. The sequel trilogy movies are dogshit and also a total disaster in the grand scheme of the series. That's really the big difference.

Digital was a mistake, at least 35mm helps hide the cg a bit. It's weird how some of TPM's effects hold up but some is dogshit.
Even as a dumb kid when the movies came out I was so confused why people kept praising the "amazing special effects". Everything looked fake as shit.
The podracing scene is great though.
the movie doesn't look like that. That must be from a videogame
I genuinely liked this as a kid. Even though i knew there was something off about it, I liked that it felt alien - a world where everything had that frutiger aero aesthetic.

The prequels and sequels are both shit. But the difference is at least with the prequels you got a lot of stuff to laugh at how bad it is.
That is what happens when you have watched “product” for 10 years vs a actual story by a storyteller. Your mind is opened.
The prequels were ahead of their time in some ways, other ways just right.
The prequels were still good movies. Maybe not as excellent as the original two and the shitty third one, but still good.

No. Upon a recent rewatch they're actually even worse than I remember.
The prequels are the coolest movies ever as long as you're watching them as a boy aged 3-10
sequels appeal to no one
I remember asking my cousins why they were burning Qui-Gon Jinn
>"but that will kill him!"
The piece of Star Wars media I liked the most was Andor, RotS second.
Everything else produced by Disney is irredeemable garbage though.
All the while the prequels are vindicated in retrospect
prequelgays are as annoying as sonicgays were in their prime tbh
TPM was the only decent film in the prequels, because it felt like it was taking place in real locations and didn’t seem like a cartoon. Also, Hayden Christianson never felt right as Anakin and those other two films just seemed incredibly rushed and sloppily thrown together, like they were made for TV. Even the epic fight scene in the lava just looked crazy like a looney tunes. Fever dream garbage.
The sequels are unironically better than the prequels
Prequels>OT>sequels
Always were
lefty/misc/ troon discord endlessly defends everything dumb stupid and lame about star wars and endlessly spams and floods the board because they are also the jannies
Dizney shit is so bad they make the prequels look like citizen fricking kane.
