It is so bad. Everything is rushed and dramatic moments have zero build up or tension. I probably wouldn't have understood what was going on if I hadn't watched the Chinese version which is far superior. The GoT guys are officially hacks

The only good dramatic moment was the cuck guy dying with his friend at his side. Those two were good together. The boat slicing part was rushed AF

It’s getting a season 2 but considering how low the view numbers were, Netflix will very likely cut buck on the budget which will hurt the show.

S2 and onwards should be interesting imo.

The chink version shot itself in the foot by omitting core scenes for muh culturally sensitive reasons that were part of Wenjie's main motivations for doing what she did, but books 2 and 3 have no such issues. Their version is superior in terms of scope and detailed retelling.

Dumb and dumber may not have the same problem like they had with GoT ie running out of source material, but they now have to compete with a parallel version and Tencent is not going to hold back, since they consider it their baby. Their release year may even be the same next time.

dude literally no one cares about that part, you're the only one who ever brings up and you're always so fricking dramatic about it. It doesn't matter how YW's father died, so long as it was at the hands of humans.

I'm saying no one gave a shit about seeing it Netflix, and none gave a shit when it was cut. It's the villain's backstory, not some grand critique of communism. "This move was ruined because Thanos mother was killed by a mutant instead of a zombie." That's your argument.

The Chinese version had an "anniversary" re-release with additional scenes, some episodes are 20+ minutes longer. Can also be found on YT. Scenes like Wang Miao asking his wife to take photos, but he freaks out when she wants to take a photo if their daughter. That kind of stuff is completely missing from Netflix. The NF scientists don't have much at stake since they're childless, unable to even start relationships, and have jobs like "fast food millionaire".

Thinking of reading the books, how different are they from the Netflix slop?

Season 1 is almost identitcal to the book. They just added threads for the other 2 books into the first season, because the books are completely disjointed and have horrible continuity between them.

Their entire pre-offensive strategy is limited to manipulating two sub-atomic particles. This is the great filter of the show. When applied precisely the particles can be used to do simple things, like change a one to a zero in a computer, which can cause seemingly random outcomes. You've probably seen the YT video about the voting machine/cosmic bitflip. In actuality, the two sub-atomic particles were constantly at work, and that work needed to be divided between them as well. If one sophon is beaming shit into Wang Miao's retinas then it can't be fricking up other shit at CERN. Yes, they travel at the speed of light, but they're not invincible, and if humans were to find a way to test physics that doesn't rely on modern day computer tech then that would only leave the sophons one real weapon, which is head-frickery.

sophons didn't go after CERN computers, they directly fricked up the particles in the accelerator

Most of the characters are different, but not all. The basics of the story are the same. Arguably the two best characters were either cut from Netflix version (Wang Miao) or given a greatly reduced role (Da Shi). If you've seen the Chinese version then there's really no point in reading the book.

The sound mixing is so fricking distracting. Any time a non chinese character is speaking in another language they are literally unintelligible. They even do this weird thing where they randomly dub over native english speakers with an esl moron speaking unintelligible broken english. And its not like they are even consistent with the dubbing, sometimes its just the actor speaking and then in the middle of his lines they will dub it with the chink speaking english. Its such an amature production. I don't know how anyone can take it seriously.

there's three books. they've already covered book 1 and introduced parts of books 2 and 3. They might make the final book 2 seasons and I guess they could introduce shit from redemption of time but I doubt they have enough material for more than 5 seasons at most. Plus it's a Netflix show, practically nothing gets given more than 4 seasons.

It's a very bad adaptation, but I don't understand why Netflix thought it a good idea to adapt a dry, hard scifi novel written by a computer nerd in the first place. They stripped it of its essence to make it palateable to a netflix crowd, but scifi already doesn't have broad appeal and it was so dumbed down that I imagine bookgays don't like it

i thought the books had some interesting theories but were flawed but the show just focused on boring teenage drama and character relationships
