    >any changes they could have made to save this show
The tricky part is that the biggest problem with the show is "everything"

The only way they could have possibly salvaging it is by 100% scrapping everything and starting over. The show is so atrociously bad, it should be studied by scientists

yeah just gut the entire thing. it follows several protagonists and their stories and each one is abhorrently dull, yet the problem won't be solved by simply cutting one out.

In their defence the set designs were really good, it's a shame they found the writers and casting directors under a rock on some liberal arts campus in Portland.

I still think the casting decisions behind Elrond, Celebrimbor and Galadriel were worse than the race swaps. Celebrimbor is supposed to have some serious screen presence as he's one of the most important people in that universe yet they just cast some dude, if you weren't familiar with the books you would have thought he was some throwaway character

Ive had more meaningful conversations explaining the tolkien universe to chuds you yelled "NERD" in my face than anything put in rings of garbo.

Not attack the built-in audience at every goddamned step? Tolkien super fans? Seriously? They ginned up outrage with racial stuff to make themselves untouchable, but realized too late that the nerds they were baiting were responsible for bringing the entire audience. No nerds equals this shit might as well be a billion dollar Beastmaster remake.

The only way to save the show is to buy the rights to Frieren and slap the RoP label on it while keeping everything else the same.

It's one of those things where the whole thing needed to be scrapped. No little changes would have saved it, the whole premise and script were terrible. Another example would be the new Star Wars movies.

There's no saving it because the mindset of modern writers simply isn't made for something like LotR.

In the past, writers were scholars. Teachers. History nuts. They came from families that paid for expensive education. They had great appreciation for mythology and archetypes, and were strongly influenced by the literary greats that lived long ago. They were also often religious and patriotic. And so a writer understood and cherished the history, tradition, folkore and myth behind the prose. When a person like that writes a story, it's probably going to be decent.

In today's world, you're inherently frowned for thinking that way. The past is bad and we constantly 'progress.' Attitudes that guided Tolkien's education and his work are attitudes considered outdated or evil nowadays. Religion? Being patriotic? Opposing progress for the sake of progress? Feeling proud of your land and wanting to defend it? A modern writer will not by shaped by these things, or by things like learning history, geography, language, myth. They'll grow up on social media and hollywood. As a result, the modern creative minds are simply unable to access the mode of creation necessary to make things LotR. The authenticity and mythology is something they don't understand and never will.

The show could never have been good. Tolkien despised everything Amazon and America stand for today, of course RoP turned out shit.

Amazon literally waited for Christopher Tolkien to die before they made the show because they knew he would voice objections to changes and JRR's grandson is totally fine with adaptations deviating from the source material.

nothing right at the same time. none of the characters are truly bad but they're sure as hell not good either. its just a giant, dull mess that squandered whatever motes of talent were involved

This is a good point. No one remembers Rings of Power now, even my cousin who watched all of it and told me it was good doesn't mention it at all. Prequels had social impact, quality notwithstanding

              Anonymous

Prequels were lazily told yet thematically sound. Rings of Powah doesn't just suck but it is also offensively bad and incredibly Boring. Impossibly Boring! Your cousin doesn't remember it because it is forgetful.

          Anonymous

No, it won't. It will be remembered as the terrible story it is (even without comparing it to the source material). It's already been raked over the coals by regular people who can spot stupidity as well as industry shills who had to come out and say "yeah, it wasn't as good as we thought it was going to be." The prequels were interesting stories with incredibly mixed execution. RoP is a terrible story with no interesting narrative hooks outside of subversions of expectations, modern day allegories shoved in where it doesn't make sense, and absolutely insufferable characters bereft of even the most basic common sense.

This will age like the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Not to mention that the Prequel merchandise, prequel-era video games, books, and comics were all selling incredibly well. RoP has nothing.

I'd watch that. Oh man I'd be so fricking cool to see Strider's time as a Ranger dealing orcs and goblins, killing them with Legolas. It wouldn't be very profound, but I'd like it

I'm probably gonna get laughed out of the thread for this but I unironically liked Disa's character in season 1.
    >loving wife
    >good mother
    >supports her husband
The fact that she's a nog could've easily been explained by saying she's from a noble family from the Orocarni mountains.
She was the ONE thing I actually liked about the show.
