Really good, but not amazing. It seems Denis will forever be capped out at making 8/10s, never truly achieving greatness.

Great movie but holy shit did they rape the book plot. They could fix it in Dune 3 but I know they won't.

The movie makers willfully misinterpreted the themes and plot of the book. Almost to the point where it breaks the overall story.

            >that's just b***hing for the sake of b***hing
            The book plot = good
            the movie plot = bad.

now that this slops marketing is over books are for homosexuals? I'll keep that in mind when you crawl to the /film/ board when the next one is released and try and pretend you have taste 🙂

Visuals and sound are superb and they could already give the movie the Oscars for visual effects/sound design bc it'll have-nots competitors. Perhaps cinematography too.
The story itself is unengaging bc it's the old/tired le obvious white nazis vs le tribal good savages (conflating palestines/"freedom fighters"/jews etc).
It's also a sexless movie, Pugh/Lea/Zendaya should have had at least one nude scene each.
Finally, the motivations are sometimes unclear.

I just pointed out how that term doesn't apply because they're willingly being led to committing genocide by someone who told them a useful lie for his own means, you mentally-castrated homosexual

It does apply you ignorant moron. Good savages are not devoid of savagery, their actions are rationalized bc they're depicted as "pure" and "justified"

              Anonymous

They're not rationalized, they're blindly following a literal false prophet from an implanted mythos. That's why Paul is pissing himself over going through with it half the movie because he doesn't like how people will kill and die in his name against his wishes. They're also just scummy tribals in a backwater shithole known for its one valuable export

They're shown as following a "prophet" (or simply a leader for some of them) who'll facilitate their geopolitical/territorial claims and freedom from Harkonnen oppression. But they're clearly barbaric compared to the highly advanced Harkonnen culture.

They're all following him now because he's a literal Messiah to them, they'll do basically whatever he wants them to do or die in his name voluntarily. Also there's no motive for Paul to do so since he too needs the spice to facilitate space travel unless he finds some way around it

Mediocre for the most part, with a few memorable scenes throughout. Best parts were the aesthetics of buildings, spacecraft and machines.
Inferior to the 80s version in storytelling, character design and acting.
I don't regret watching both in the cinema, I don't think I'll bother with a continuation or watching them again at home.

Suddenly the guild navigators (the dudes that can actually achieve interstellar travel) are carting off crazed jihadis that do not have the support of the great houses or the empire, when instead they could've just bombarded them from space indefinitely.

    >but them nukes hitting the spice depots

don't tell me it's impossible to simply bombard the planet then land and continue spice harvesting. they're all in one place, FRICK them up then continue as normal without the slave/jihadi population. obviously genocide is not an issue in this universe.

I don't like it. There's a humanness to the book that is severely lacking in Denis adaption. The art direction could've been more naturalistic too. Denis can't give acting directions for shit. Timothy is a trainwreck choice for Paul, and way worse than Zendaya as Chani. Zendaya is bad because of what they chose to do with the character, but with the right direction she could've been passable.
