    Overhated but still mid.
Unlike Hereditary the pacing here is constantly jumping around, and the payoff is uninteresting. The cult feels completely aimless and superficial here, unlike in again Hereditary where we have rutuals that lead to something and we ar least get the whole "philosophy" behind the cult. Here it felt like Aster tried to combine El Topo and The Wicker Man and make it all about breakup for some reason. It doesn't work well together, but there are good individual scenes.

      Pretty much.
There are some good moments and good performances all thrown away for some ambiguous weirdness collage at the end instead of a conclusion to the story.
This basically describes the majority of A24 films.

It's objectively not mid though; it's better than 95% of horror releases

Serenely psychotic experience. Worth a watch but not more than that. I can’t believe that Florence Pugh managed to launch her career with this and frankly I can’t imagine the miles of producer dick she’s sucked to keep it going

yes and after watching it you will understand why she's everywhere. It's simple - directors want her

The only film I’ve seen her in so far that I personally enjoyed was The Wonder. I have not seen Oppenheimer yet but I will watch Lady Macbeth and see if it softens my overall opinion of her

I thought she was kind of cute in Midsommar. Especially when she was pouting in her may queen crown. But she's a complete refrigerator body now and it's unfortunate. I liked the movie and would join the religion cult with her any day.

Much better than Hereditary which resorted to cheap jumpscares and typical horror nonsense such as "communing with spirits".
Anyone comparing the two should be slapped.
Midsommar was not a horror, it was an experience of ambiance.

This movie and films like it appeal to people who unironically think that the disgusting is beautiful, eg. the juxtaposition of gore with nature. In my opinion, it appeals to the mentally ill.

I really liked the beginning with the suicide and the cinematography and set design was beautiful, but the plot was weak and dragged ultimately it felt like a more derivative retread of what hereditary did much better and more originally. not a bad film but not a good one ether

Legitimately and unironically one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I was not unsettled in the slightest by their cult. They didn’t seem even remotely like real people with real motivation like the Wicker Man. The emotional drama was hammy and boring. There wasn’t a single tolerable character. No one acted like a real person, even in a made up situation like this and even for a horror movie.

Also SOUND DESIGN jesus fricking christ people there’s a difference between having sound contrast and riddiculus horrible shrieking while nothing is happening on screen next to super quiet dialogue. Frick you too nolan

      Correct. It's a femcel film.
      >Femcel sees her boyfriend being drugged and gang raped by a bunch of goblinas.
      >Immediately has a cuck breakdown.
      >Gets a choice to either kill her (now paralyzed) boyfriend or one of the cult members.
      >Picks her boyfriend like the cuck that she is.
      >Has him burned alive such that he can't even scream.
      >Becomes friends with his rapists.
      >This is supposedly a "liberating" scene for her according to femcels.
Truly a film made for femcels through and through.
