I don't understand why they put so many scenes/story beats in from book 2 and 3. Like Lu Ten and Katara's mothers death are both really important for future episodes that they just put in here when they didn't really need to.

Is the original series worth watching as a 30-year-old man? It completely escaped me during its first run for some reason.

YES, YES, AND GO WATCH IT ALREADY

Yeah it's good, the first few episodes have a more childish tone than the rest of the series so they can be a struggle to get through but if you get past them then the series mostly keeps up a consistent level of quality all the way to the end

        Anonymous

Sure, but Book 1 is the weakest and takes a while to get to the good episodes. Book 2 and 3 are still stellar.

I didn't watch it till I was in my early 20's, season 1 is more kid focused IMO, but 2 and 3 really pick up and are great, I rewatch the series atleast once a year.

Watching it for the first time right now, yeah it's pretty enjoyable. Don't bother unless you're the type of person who watches anime.

The show is excellent. The first half of Season 1 is kinda rough. Season 2 and 3 are excellent outside of a handful of episodes. Please watch it when you have the chance.

It's fine, good even. But it's not the second coming of Christ that some of the fanbase treat it as. It just stood out at the time because it had no real competitors in the realm of long-form animated storytelling.

It's definitely a kids' show but it doesn't often talk down to them. Clearly left leaning though if you hate that shit.

Anon. The fascist nazi tribe gets defeated by a ethnically diverse cast of characters with a vegan monk who rejects deadly violence. Just having open borders doesn't change that. Korra literally critiques communism and leftist anarchy

Legend of Korra never showed or even implied homosexuals until the very last minute. But yeah Korra did pave the way for more woke garbage. Apparently Air Nomads are free love hippies now.

It's the closest thing you will get to a perfect show. And S1 was good, I don't get why everyone else thinks that season is meh. It isn't written any worse than the later ones, just slower in action

I love the whole Avatar universe and been a fan for a while but after a recent rewatch I must admit it is 90% a kids show. Jokes are cringe, dialogues too, but holy shit the show is a catastrophe compared to that.
Maybe a weird take for some but I absolutely loved season 1 of Korra more than ATLA.
If I were you I wouldn't watch it unless you enjoy watching some animes at least.

No, it's generic and childish. Toph is really the only good thing about it.
        Also,
        >all these people saying season 3 is great
Lol, it's full of plot holes, shitty pacing, shitty plot conveniences and the villain has zero development.
Nostalgia is a powerful thing indeed.

There's no subtlety in the cartoon, everything was written for 8 years old to understand.

Plus Aang becoming Kyoshi, the secret tunnel singers, meeting Wan Shi Tong, all beats from future episodes that didn't ned to be there, AND HE DOESN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO LEARN WATERBENDING, which is like the whole purose of season 1

Roku seemed way off to me, but I like that we meet other Avatars, and that they don't pretend that noone died like in the cartoon, but a lot of the choices they made make me wonder what they have planned for the hypothetical seasons 2 and 3

The avatar state is the combined incarnations of every avatar according to cannon, so if aang went into the avatar state it is possible for Kyoshi to take over. It's like a mini avatar state. And Kyoshi has a special connection to that village.

Yu yu Hakusho did the same thing. Probably to introduce the more interesting elements early to hook the audience. It shows a lack of faith in the product. I'm no fan of One Piece but they just had the first season be the first saga have to respect it for that

Season 2 and 3 are probably already written, and the plot is laid out so tightly that they couldn't have fit those elements in, or at least not in a natural way.
Like the singers and the secret tunnel, might as well have that as a plot element here instead of cramming it in when they return to Omashu. Or maybe they are skipping Omashu entirely and there was never even a chance of fitting it in.

Asian Americans happened. People have no problem watching Asian kino, see South Korea and Japan. But Asian Americans are just so insecure and self conscious about their identity that you can just feel the insecurity, coping, and over compensation in any Asian American focused media and it ruins it. Asian Americans are truly the lowest of the low.

Avatar world isn't a real place.
The writers were inspired by and took a lot of aspects of different asian cultures but the characters look european. Even the brown ones (a few exceptions).
The Chinese toads don't look like the characters they're portraying and that's why it comes across as miscast.
