I think it’s great. Very enjoyable and creative action movie. Why don’t you give us your opinion, OP?

Hated it back in 2015 (not for political reasons) but it's on at my local kinoplex tonight and I'm going to go and give it another shot.

People shit on it for the "feminist propaganda". If terminator or alien came out today people would say the same

terminator portrays the masculine ideal alongside the feminine ideal. very sexed and real movie. also it seems the OG alien has been officially memed into being Ripley's movie instead of an ensemble.

The Xenomorph is deliberately phallic in design, the first film is, in part, a rape analogy.

So you could argue that it's proto-Woke. I don't, but you could.

Terminator and Alien are fine. It's Aliens that gets into feminist territory with the motherhood themes. It's still a bit better than what they'd do today though because they did a good job of making Ripley seem hysterical and she only took over after the leadership was killed / showed it was completely incompetent. Then there's what

The Xenomorph is deliberately phallic in design, the first film is, in part, a rape analogy.

(nice trips btw) pointed out in how the aliens are sort of rape analogies with their phallic heads and yet strangely sexy bodies so feminist stuff can't really be completely discarded.

Ripley is a character who spends the first movie earning the confidence and resolve she demonstrates in the sequel. Many women characters in current films start at step 2.

2bh the problem with these new strong womyn characters is that they act like the toxic men their writers claim to hate so basically they're just total buttholes to everyone and they expect people to like them

Was mentioning this to the wife the other night, that it's pretty funny how strong female has come to mean "woman who plays a male". At least Ripley in Aliens acts out feminine traits.

At the risk of sounding Woke, I genuinely think there is a fluidity to gender, and that a woman in the Mad Max 2/ Fury Road world would naturally become masculine out of necessity.

for sure, but female strength isnt the same as a males. women are caretakers. id take a strong female character that does anything to protect their children over someone that beats up 10 guys twice her size and goes
              >heh... silly boy
which is obviously just some writers power fantasy

I can see the logic to this and I actually don't mind Furiosa in Fury Road, but at the end of the day, strength disparities between men and women are real, and women must plan and act differently than men to survive in harsh conditions. Never mind the documented persistent behavioral differences between men and women

To be fair, does Furiosa do much hand to hand overpowering in Fury Road? I can't remember.

No, which is why I don't think Fury Road falls into this trap, but it's one I fully expect their prequel to fall into.

Thats the thing, Furiosa and maybe some of her marauder friends were the only really masculine women and even Furiosa got emotional and lost a like 5 v 1 against max when he was being restricted. Joe's wives were also pretty feminine, one was even comforting knux on some I can fix him shit. Any anything furiosa accomplishes she couldn't have done it without max

i dont care about culture war bullshit but the story was kinda meh, none of the characters feel very fleshed out aside from the bad guys. great fricking action though

The original films weren't intricately plotted either. In fact what most people regard as the best film (Mad Max 2/ The Road Warrior) has a bare bones narrative.

Back in 2015, my GF and her friends had to drag me to the theater cause i didnt want to watch this crap, to me it was a Fast and Furious but with more sand. Its look so dumb.

Then, the movie began, with the Warner Bros logo and engin sound and i was like "okay they went full autism" makes me smile.
Then, there was the scene with the War Party and the drummers/rocker guy and i was semi-standing on my seat, i was sweating of excitation.
Probably one of my favorite movie, its wholesome, its so much fun.
    The OST is kino.

I've watched it 5 times. it always seems like an 1 hour movie rather than 2+ hours. The Action, tempo, Music, Visual practical effects are kino.
