I didn't care for it. I thought the daughter was a cringe memelord or meme cringelord or something like that.

I just watched it and it’s just fricking capeshit that’s trying to be all cartoony and zany. Cinema is dead if this is what’s considered an Oscar winning film now

      it was good actually

Get ready for this crap to be the next movie overly praised by woke white liberal homosexuals. Anything Asian we have to love now to stop AAPI hate!! Ugh and it stars that same insufferable daughter too. When did china people become THE GROUP for all white libs to fetishize as the new protected group who could do no wrong? I guess they got sick of blacks and trannies?

Average movie goers liked it because it was packed full of mindless action, pop culture references and low brow comedy.
Reddit gays liked because it's about intergenerational trauma and multiverse.
Critics liked it because of it's philosophically posturing and "anti-nihilistic message".
And your mom liked it because it's mother daughter movie where the mom despite fricking up was clearly in the right.

The film sucked ass because it was an assault to senses; almost all of the action scenes were the embodiment of throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.
It fails to convey an... anti-nihilistic message?
The movie was tonal mess with super serious moments right after some Ren & Stimpy tier humor.
Multiverse is cancer on modern writing: suprarational concepts like multiverse ruin casual relations and consequences which are needed to form narratives in, I wouldn't mind as much but when every movie now has time travel and multiverse it becomes unbearable.

    >why was this piece of shit movie so highly regarded?
Because it checked off all the Academy's circle-jerking criteria to qualify for their phony awards show; oscar bait, essentially.
    >central cast is more than 30% minorities
    >MC = strong female
    >MC's offspring is a fat lesbo with mommy issues + wants things done her way against family tradition lest she destroys all existence until her mother is forced to accept her degeneracy
    >le overused multiverse trope
    >copious slo-mo sequences
    >beats you over the head with exposition about how the multiverse works
    >hotdog fingers
    >dildos everywhere
    >2deep4u near-nihilism which tickles reddit's collective funny bone
    >emotionally manipulative dialogue
    >it fits an ongoing Hollywood trend of Asian-American offspring rebelling against their strict parents
    TL;DR It's capeshit under a wuxia mask.
Expect to see more of this shit in the coming years.

What I hate about Stop Asian Hate and the subsequent commercialization of "asian identity" in media:
Asians in America already had an identity. It was abiding by the law, being polite, being grateful, doing well in school, and succeeding in the workplace and the academy.
Stop Asian Hate was a blatant attempt to hijack that identity by turning them into another aggrieved minority. It was based on a false narrative that white Americans hated them because they're racist, when in reality the violence was just typical black violence. This false narrative was signal boosted simultaneously by several lame lefty memes (like the dreaded "where are you from" question that you're supposed to be offended by) all to the effect that being asian in America is about being oppressed, when in reality it's actually great being asian in America. Asians of course are very polite and socially sensitive, so they went along with these narratives because they figured that's what they're expected to do. As a result, both the way they were perceived by others and the way they perceived themselves inverted. They were no longer a group you respect for their strong culture, they were another group taken over by critical race theory and under the thumb of the white man. The forms of their culture remained, but the flavor totally changed. They took pride in their identity, not as asians or as americans, but as if they were revolutionaries sticking it to the white supremacist system. So the asian pride movies that were made to satisfy the artificial demand were rejected in China for the distinctly Baizuo stench of the things (any real asian could smell right away).

No longer grateful, they made complaining a tradition. No longer self-sufficient, they lapped up the AAPI months and the embarrassing shows corporate America tossed their way. Their faces flushed red any time a lefty called them a "model minority"; they promised they would repent of that sin. They apologized to the blacks for making them mad, like a battered wife to her husband. They lost all self-awareness. They have no epistemology to find where they went wrong, how they got hoodwinked.

TL;DR: israelites and beverly hills baizuo were the ones who told asians to start hating non-woke aka normal working class whites, and they went with it

I feel like people here wouldn't hate this movie as much if it didn't sweep at the oscars. I feel like when a movie wins enough awards, people start to scrutinize it and put pressure on it. Like for example, I liked green book, and thought it was just "a pretty good movie" with fun performances and it wasn't earth shattering or anything, but people started to shit on it because it beat out blackkklansman at the oscars in 2019.
I liked it, but I also didn't think it was the most amazing movie in the world or that it deserved all the awards it won, or even all the critical praise it gets. It was just good, it was pretty rick and morty-y at times but it wasn't awful

Because it is the sort of surface-level deep that makes the standard mouthbreathing moviegoer think that he's smart for 'getting it'.

Also (and by God I wish I was making this up), because it's not capeshit they think it's an indie film and they're highbrow cinema viewers.
