Both are shit. But of the three episodes I've seen at least the plots of Family Guy in space make sense and rarely destroy canon/lore.

With studios releasing garbage every month that ruin franchises. It's hard to see just how bad the prequels were. Especially if you didn't fall in love with the characters through much more well written side stories and games.

In all honesty I haven't even tried watching the cartoon, and these are big reasons. I can already predict what the show will be like, I've seen ads and know what kind of goody safe humor it has, I already know the politics that are inevitably going to get shoved in. It's just slop, I know I'll get absolutely nothing out of watching it.

Computer, generate a season of a new startrek series, consisting of 24 forty minute episodes, set in a slightly post Voyager time frame, using the style and designs of the TNG/DS9/VOY period. Make the main bridge crew consist of 6 straight white men of varying age groups and backgrounds, one black man who doesn't overstep his place, and 3 females; one shy but smoking hot asain that only wears skants, one conventionally attractive white woman, and one sexy tomboy that's open to sexually experimenting with other women. make the stories episodic and generally light hearted and fun, with a 2 parter season finalle. disengage safety protocols.

Inceldom is a self fulfilling prophecy. The inability to smash breeds resentment which translates into a vibe women find repulsive then the cycle continues. It’s one thing to have alternative values but when you’re overtly dismissive of half the population because you disagree no one in their right mind is going to take you seriously. Demonrats and republitards

          >Profit isn't the motive anymore

No anon. You are going in the wrong direction in terms of your thinking.
          Profit is always the motive.

It's just that the people paying for production, giving out loans, or investing in shows have social causes they care about. Like a Bank or Company won't invest in a TV production unless it is "diverse". So all companies have to pay lip service to diversity just to get funding.

If a Billionaire is willing to fund your movie on the condition you have 50% of the cast be people of color, then you are gonna do what you gotta do to get that funding.

          Anonymous

Profit is the motive. The path to profit just stopped being mass appeal. Mass appeal as a path to profit is an exception to the historical rule, where if you want to get rich off being creative, you have to appeal to the rich.

This, and they need to be third party companies. The only reason Netflix stays profitable is because of their huge catalogue of foreign content they market elsewhere that costs pennies on the dollar to license compared to American sitcoms. Hulu only worked at the beginning because it had a free tier with ads and had shows from all the major networks. Nobody wants to feel like they're just paying for a channel in a cable package when they could have just stuck with cable to begin with.

I mean the show clearly does have fans, otherwise it wouldn't be on season 4.

Prodigy got a 40 episode commit right out of the gate. This likely did too, but they pretended they’re renewing it every year.

Prodigy was fricked from the beginning. They aired the first half of the season in two 5 episode batches with a one month break in between, and the show didn’t air on Nickelodeon for like a year.

                "See! SEE! Ahahaha!"

PRO had a deal for a 10 episode S01. Paramount+ was so happy with the first episode when it was released, they gave the show an immediate commit for an additional 10 episodes in S01, and a 20 episode S02.

This is your confirmation bias -- and your absolute refusal to recognize Reality, rebounding on you once again.

The initial reports of the week of the PRO premier was somewhat confused, because most reporters thought it was an immediate renewal for another 10 episode S02. Took a few weeks until the smoke cleared and it was confirmed the renewal was for a 20 episode S02 and an upsided of 10 more episodes in S01.

Its been explained to you a number of times, a number of ways, that streaming has no real incentive to pull a real audience, but streaming has huge incentive to pretend to have pulled an audience. Thus, astroturf.

putting pickletrek on youtube is proving, conclusively, that no one would willingly watch that shit, even for free (even though over 90% of paramount+ subscriptions were given away, for free), thus is pretty strong evidence that even people with their free subscriptions aren't watching it.

        >I mean the show clearly does have fans, otherwise it wouldn't be on season 4.
That's not how it works. These shows usually get a multiple seasons (or a large batch of episodes) pre-approved before it goes into production. Same thing happened with Prodigy. It got pre-approved for a certain amount of episodes.

If Paramount initially approved 45 episodes, then the creators can divide that episode count into 4 seasons.

The reason the Ld creators are worried is because now Lower Decks is probably coming up for renewal, and they want Paramount to pay for another Batch of episodes. And they aren't sure Paramount will do it again.

          Anonymous

          >Same thing happened with Prodigy.
It's already been discussed earlier, but Prodigy was removed from P+ before all the ordered episodes were released.
Which just shows Paramount would have no problems about doing the same thing with Lower Decks.

            Anonymous

The funny thing about these contracts is that Paramount promises to fund crating the show, but Paramount make no promises they will actually air the show on any of their platforms or networks. That's how they keep the show creators obedient.

That's streaming services in general, though, that's hardly unique to Paramount. Netflix is the only one that makes any money.

its unique to paramount in the sense paramount has no other revenue streams.

              >Paramount has no other revenue streams
It still has everything else Viacom and CBS own, which is quite a bit. What'll end up happening is the streaming service will go under and they'll just continue licensing shows out to third party services like Netflix the same way everybody else did before 2013.

                Anonymous

in the sense media is the only source of revenue for viacom/paramount/cbs. disney may only have parks/cruiselines in addition to media, who's success is entirely dependent upon media, but at least that is something more than being entirely dependent upon the success of media. then WB is now just a skinsuit discovery network wears, and discovery network focuses on reality TV, which is still intensely profitable. All the rest are owned by other companies, diversified, etc.

                Anonymous

Oh yeah, that's true. My contention is more that they have enough legacy properties and channels (including MTV, per your reality TV example) for them to weather this by cutting losses and licensing shows to more successful streamers. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon takes a crack at licensing the whole catalogue just so they can stop dropping billions on shit like Tolkien rights.

O i am laffin. That kind of plays into my point, though, the only other thing on the lineup for the next 24 hours is Catfished. Those shows probably cost about fifty cents to produce, so any revenue they can generate from that is pure profit, even when it's licensed to others.

I was there on Cinemaphile and on Cinemaphile when A Moral Star, Part II aired, and when Supernova, Part II aired. Those two episodes just solidly btfo Pickle Trek so bad that I do believe it drove Lezzies (more) insane.

I've noticed that almost every Trek thread on this board is flooded with Discord trannies who obsess over this shitty cartoon. I guess it shouldn't be surprising given the roots of Trek's fanbase going back to the 60s, but a show that deliberately tries to be thoughtful really doesn't deserve to have a fanbase consisting entirely of troons and guys who look like Chuck Wendig who post about Drumpf on Twitter all day.

its dead, they might do one more season depending on the delivery timeline but its unlikely. since they are ending Discovery at Season 5 and potentially ending Strange New worlds after this season. Legacy will never happen or be used as a series reboot. they need to find a way to make up for the entire federation getting deleted by a space baby crying 700 years in the future.

assessing statistical probabilities and gauging potential long-term outcomes is logic based
emotion is immediate and backward looking
you can't realistically synthesize the emotions you will feel if and when an event happens in the future but you can remember what pivotal moments felt like in the past

you can predict the kind of emotions you would have but you can actually replicate them until the moment happens

                no, you're not getting it
emotion doesn't extend beyond the immediate so trying to use it to make long term future decisions is fricking stupid
                that's what logic is for

                Anonymous

No, I get it, completely. You're a moron, therefore can't comprehend a distinction between intellectual awareness, in the moment reactions, and felt emotions. Because you don't have the cognitive capacity to do so. You are exactly what you are at a given moment and there is nothing else to you.

Non-morons are able to differentiate between being aware of danger, startled, and panicked. For example, working under a jacked up car, you're aware it could fall. Then you hear a noise you didn't expect, so you're started. then you move slightly wrong and part of the undercarriage touches your chest, and for a moment you're panicked.

                Anonymous

using your car analogy, this program (the car) is not propped up by a pristine jack but by a jenga cube of assorted scrap metal
a passerby (the audience) tells the guy underneath the car that it's not stable and will fall if he doesn't use a jack
                he ignores them
                another passerby does the same
                he ignores them too
at some point the best outcome for all is that the car falls and crushes him so that others learn not to be as stubborn and moronic as he was
