Good artists don't do comics unless they're contractually obligated. Pick any given comic from the last 40 years and 99 times out of 100 it'll have trash faces, expression, anatomy, perspective, etc.
Deadlines more than anything. You've got a monthly book it means you have to write, draw, ink, color and edit an issue before getting it to print so it can make stands by its date.
Its super rare for a comic artist to be ahead of the work flow just because they have such a short turn around.
This is something they do to EVERY superhero media now and the writers don't realize that literally everyone hates it. It's entirely justified to hide the fact that you're a superhero from your girlfriend who you've only actually known for a couple of months and even then you still want to protect her from villains who might use her to get to you. Like 60 years of commonly accepted superhero rationale gets thrown out the window and everyone hates it except the writers who just want stupid forced drama.
Why do people get so offended on behalf of such a nothing character? Comic Amber was incredibly shallow as a character, stop pretending the new take on her is anything but a sidestep at best, they both suck.
Comic Amber was NORMAL, that was the whole point of the character, she acted as an anchor to normalcy while Eve kept trying to convince him to distance himself from "normal people". Amber actually served a narrative function.
Later when she gets into an abusive relationship Mark is forced to content with being basically powerless to stop it while desperately wanting to help, which is a great moment for him since its one of the greatest temptations of abusing his power he faces at that point.
There is fricking no point to nuAmber, at all, she is just in the way of the actual story.

You missed the entire point of her existence. She's supposed to be Mark's Debbie. Where Nolan didn't care if he worried Debbie by being gone for months if not years at a time, Mark is terrified of the prospect and can't bare putting Amber through that. She has no superpowers, she's up all night thinking about if Mark has died when he doesn't get back to her for long periods of time, he stresses her out constantly, he makes her look like a moron in front of her friends by how he acts and constantly leaves, and more.
Her normality is the entire point and why Mark chooses to go to Eve in the first place, because he believes she deserves a normal life without the worry of if the person she loves has died on another planet and not seeing him for potentially years at a time. Imagine if the coma where Oliver and Nolan take care of him happened when he was dating Amber. Dude was out for what, six months? Then almost immediately he gets gassed and is on death's door for another month or so recuperating?

Ottley was still mimicking the original artist who left after the first 12 issues around that time. He stopped doing that later and it really improved.
On one hand, Black Amber is annoying (at least in Season 1, she hasn't done anything annoying this season). On the other hand, White Amber was milquetoast in design and in personality. She was the obvious boring choice, that was clearly a temporary love interest.
A lot of people will probaby think Black Amber is here to stay, best case scenario she's killed off in a tragic way, worst case scenario we don't see her again for a couple seasons.
Either way Amber is a non factor, always has been. A baffling choice, but if I had to choose a character for them to ruin, itd be the pointless fakeout love interest. I'm more annoyed that William was turned to a flamboyant homosexual when he was a more of whiny gay butthole who was at least a loyal friend. Again, in Season 2, William isn't as annoying, but who knows if they won't turn him back into a "Yass Queen Slayyy" gay again. Seems odd to take a minority and make them more stereotypical. Especially when EVERY other character got more depth, not less.

I don't understand what this series is. It's not really parody of super heroes like The Tick, or a cynical teardown of the entire concept like The Boys or The Watchmen.
It's not really somewhere in-between both like Marshal Law or the Brat Pack. It's not even particularly violent or edgy relative to contemporary comics, even isolated to just image comics.
It's just, generic super heroes with sub par execution. General edg ithout a real point, which you'd see all the time in late 90s and early 00s comics. I don't understand what makes this series stick out from the crowd for people.
Also the art of the comic is extremely rough for a good chunk of it.

On a biological level there's no hybrids among humans, viltrumite genes literally overwrite the other race they coupled with after a few years, that process is seamless with humans, while with drastically different races, the bug people Omni-Man has his second song with, it takes years for the viltrumite genes to plow through.
Mark and Eve's daughter should by all means be only a quarter viltrumite if biology operated by realistic rules, but she is actually classified as purely viltrumite.

Why do people get so offended on behalf of such a nothing character? Comic Amber was incredibly shallow as a character, stop pretending the new take on her is anything but a sidestep at best, they both suck.
Comic Amber was NORMAL, that was the whole point of the character, she acted as an anchor to normalcy while Eve kept trying to convince him to distance himself from "normal people". Amber actually served a narrative function.
Later when she gets into an abusive relationship Mark is forced to content with being basically powerless to stop it while desperately wanting to help, which is a great moment for him since its one of the greatest temptations of abusing his power he faces at that point.
There is fricking no point to nuAmber, at all, she is just in the way of the actual story.

Her normality is the entire point and why Mark chooses to go to Eve in the first place, because he believes she deserves a normal life without the worry of if the person she loves has died on another planet and not seeing him for potentially years at a time. Imagine if the coma where Oliver and Nolan take care of him happened when he was dating Amber. Dude was out for what, six months? Then almost immediately he gets gassed and is on death's door for another month or so recuperating?

I don't understand what this series is. It's not really parody of super heroes like The Tick, or a cynical teardown of the entire concept like The Boys or The Watchmen.
It's not really somewhere in-between both like Marshal Law or the Brat Pack. It's not even particularly violent or edgy relative to contemporary comics, even isolated to just image comics.

On a biological level there's no hybrids among humans, viltrumite genes literally overwrite the other race they coupled with after a few years, that process is seamless with humans, while with drastically different races, the bug people Omni-Man has his second song with, it takes years for the viltrumite genes to plow through.

Season 1 of the show is better than the comic. So far, season 2 has been meh comparatively.
I tried to get into the comic but god. It is such a fricking slog for it to ever get interesting. Art was awful to, people tell me it does improve after awhile
