Corto Maltese is so damn good. There's a really gorgeous watercolored version, which I would love for them to reprint in any language at some point.

One of my favorite moments, I need to reread the series I feel like I didn't appreciated hard enough.

In Ireland. This is from the story "Concerto in O Minor for Harp and Nitroglycerin".

You should read everything: capes, Euro comics, manga, comic strips, etc. Maybe not webtoons.

Webtoons would be better if they weren't formatted for fricking smartphones. Comics read better when they're laid out like a fricking comic book instead of a meter of vertical white space with one panel every few inches.

It has to be big enough to see the artwork in its full glory. Even a lot of comics lack this.

I like how that story turned several weeks crossing the forgotten corner of the world, during a military operation no one remembers and during a period of WWII that people gloss over into a multi-issue work.
Although it was very personal to Hugo Pratt

Though it does have the common issue in his work that everyone just stands around smoking, discussing politics and philosophy and occasionally shooting each other when they languidly feel like it.

yes one of the best is the "Mundane" series where people sit around and look at the moon and talk and then shoot at each other. Loved those books too.

      Different strengths.

It looks even better in black and white.

The coloring I've seen is fine but I agree.

it does. Im one of them purist guys, it was intended to be b~n~w so it should have remained b~n~w. I read the original stories back in 1974 in Pif gadget. in glorious b n w. It was the first "mature" comic that I saw, showing me what comics CAN be.

exotic far away locations: Brazil, Siberia, Ethiopia, Samarkand, Japan, early 20th century history of interesting things happening, cool dude with an earing doing cool things such as searching for treasures or fighting with Rasputin. People CASUALLY getting shot and dying left and right in each episode. Actual stories that are interesting. What's not to like?
