I think it'd be a mistake to make movies based on the princesses, but I think they could make a really successful Nintendo princess-themed doll line with some cute animated shorts. Rosalina, Pauline, Daisy, Peach, and maybe Toadette/Peachette as the focus and you have a solid, varied collection.
I think Nintendo wants the Disney princess money, but to get that they would need to make a series of really competent and loved movies about their princesses. Ones which would have a good story and won't really on video game callbacks.
And I can't imagine Illumination making a Disney quality movie with Princess Peach or Daisy

I think there's great potential for all four of them because they're essentially blank slates for film and can be better developed and utilized than Disney princesses have been lately. You never see Pocahontas, Moana, Mulan, or even really Belle very much anymore but you'll see Elsa everywhere you go, unlike Disney Nintendo can use all their princess's more viably
