The people they claim to be standing up for are probably partially grateful for what European brought them. They didn't have much of beauty standards before Europeans arrived as many of them were focused on survival or under oppressive governments. Just because there may have been some cruelty under European rule doesn't mean all of the stuff they helped with should be overlooked, one example is the Philippines which kept its name because the Spanish were the ones who united them.
I don't think Asian standards are that different. Miss Philippines is a qt anywhere. It's not like they're taking the ugliest negrito putting make up on her and calling her beautiful because everybody needs representation.
