If it dealt straight away with Kang returning to the TVA or something, that would have been epic kino, but they instead create the loom problem and set up all kinds of lazy obstacles for the wild goose chase that ends up failing. The writing is just fricking terrible on so many levels for so many reasons.

This, it really sucks. They basically retconned the ending to season 1, and then created a season long goose chase over nothing important. I should have known the tv shows would never do anything interesting.
It could have been so much better if Loki went back to tell them what he learned, found out that a Kang had taken over the TVA but left as usual and gave standing orders. Then have them all decide it's more Good to let the timelines branch and form a rebellion against the Kang. Promise some lives to return after their scheme for the Season. Then go find an unimportant Kang variant to override controls. Something like that could have been cool.
But instead, everybody figures it out without Loki.

That's been Hollywood's basic operating procedure since the 1920s. The first genres they milked to death were westerns and musicals - and those have made comebacks since then only to be killed all over again.
Overpriced capeshit movies and shows are dead. But like westerns, zombies and vampires - the genre is here to stay it will just ebb and flow in popularity. We will see more sub $75 million comic movies and more shows in the CW Arrowverse budget range. Disney did a hell of a job destroying it's own market and Warner Bros. always did a shit job with DC. The releases will be more spread out and low-key but they will probably still continue with cameos and interconnected franchises but in more subtle ways.

Honestly, episodes 2-4 of season 2 were complete filler because it feels like nothing important happened all season until Loki just learned to control his time slipping. Who knows though, almost every marvel show has a terrible last episode because they aren't allowed to do anything that actually effects the status quo so they will probably blow the episode 5 reveal as it will probably lead to nothing.
I think they expected it to fail. I work in advertising in bongland, and there was not one advert for billboards, buses, radio, or even tv for this show. They advertised the first season hard though.
