I saw a video that confirmed this like a year ago. All the writers at Marvel and DC had a big zoom call they I guess didn't think the public would see and it was disgusting, it confirmed all the worst conspiracy theories about what they were doing. They went over how:
-Their long-term plan is to make every single character gay or trans until that's the norm and the straight characters are the mocked minority.
-They use creative accounting and biased polls to feed the higher ups bullshit numbers asserting their political garbage can be profitable.
-They're all former fan fiction writers who got into writing comic books explicitly for this purpose.
-The woman who was the big wig at DC explicitly stated her main goal was to take Superboy and Robin and pair them romantically and she'd effectively achieved that goal by getting them to write Superman's son as gay and Robin as bisexual. Her entire career was built off a desire to see two fictional underage boys buttfrick.
-They go through their future plans, among them they mentioned making Cyclops, Wolverine and Jean a three-way relationship with the trio each fricking one another and several spoke up about their desire to re-write Wolverine as an ftm troony because quote "Come on, he's 5'3! He's so trans-coded!"
Marvel and DC do not sell any comics and are kept on life support by the bigger companies so they let the crazies run the madhouse. If you think Disney and Pixar are crazy the comics division is 100x worse since at least the film studios are trying to make something people watch.
I think the problem is more a matter of selection bias. When you go out looking for people to be in a test audience or focus group, you're going to attract the kind of person that wants to be in a focus group. I.E. the kind of moron that overvalues their own opinion and wants to have some kind of effect on a project. They're going to tell you to change x, y, and z even if it's good and shouldn't be changed, because that's why they showed up to the focus group in the first place.
