It happens in a way. I bought a TV in Tesco years ago and they took my details. Presumed for warranty reasons or whatever but next licence letter through my door had my real name on it rather than 'legal occupier'. Moved house since and ordered another TV from Richer Sounds who didn't seem to sell me out.

no, it makes no sense as a threat, up there with detection van memes. but their database lists every address that pays for a license, so by basic process of elimination they know which addresses don't.

gist is the BBC was set up to Inform, Educate, and Entertain. it's paid for by the people through an annual licence fee, so no adverts or anything.

pretty noble mission but then they hire these private companies to collect the licence fee and send threatening letters + other scare tactics to basically every address in the UK.

      i dont get it

      I looked it up:
      >The shirt is allegedly in reference to the infamous Hillsborough disaster of 1989 when 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives in a stampede at Hillsborough Stadium. The disaster has the highest death toll in British sporting history. It occurred on April 15, 1989, when an FA Cup semifinal between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest was to take place.
      >94 fans died on that very day, while one person died in the hospital a few days later. The death toll rose to 96 in 1993, and finally to 97 when Andrew Devine died of brain injuries 32 years later.
      >The fan’s shirt, was, therefore, highly insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the people who lost their lives in that unfortunate incident.
Imagine an American being arrested for making a 9/11 joke. Ludicrous, unthinkable in America yet apparently normal in the UK. Bongs are insane.
