I've heard anons say this every once in a while but have no idea what's the source for it.

me too but I remember it was from a forum but if you look at the first episode where she speak with mymy she's dressed as a indonesian farmer while her a netherland marine you know the point where she gets tied up by her sister.

Well the Netherlands did colonize Indonesia. So it'd make sense. That's the most logical explanation.

It was more or less confirmed in a QnA stream where series creator massa explained that he grew to hate the show's growing non-Dutch fanbase and subsequently canceled Ongezellig out of spite.

its implicit through a few means. All the girls represent one of the dutch territories, she's got a darker complexion, all of her flashbacks and fantasies refer back to a tropical island and a cosiderable people especially halfbreds moved to the Netherlands during decolonization. and Massa has always had a strong liking to history and dutch culture.
The school room shows maps of the countries the girls are from, Maya has a typial indonesian hat on in the fantasy bits, etc

Much of Indonesia used to be a part of the Dutch Empire, and for like 150 years Holland had a real problem with their men sailing off to the East Indies to pick up some tropical street meat to bring home as a pocket wife. A not-insignificant percentage of the Dutch population is of partial Indonesian heritage as a result. Indonesians also often migrate to Holland even today.
