America still had a small army with veterans from the Mexican-American war. Plus they had a navy of dozens of ships. It still had a military, just not a very large one.
If the Republic had been united for a thousand years and/or generations. And it was a general time of peace and tranquility, there would have been very little need for a standing military. The functions required from state institutions would've been carried out by police forces of the member worlds.

Yoda was an idiot. He ran the Jedi Order into the ground. Luke literally fixes everything that Yoda fricked up and then Yoda shows up and laughs at him. This franchise is an embarrassment
Yoda become mad after Sheev kicked his butt out of Jedi temple. He is resposible for all that downfall.
And then Luke shows up and beats both Vader and Sheev and rebuilds the Jedi Order himself. And then, after Luke suffers a personal tragedy, Yoda shows up and laughs at him.

The clone troopers are such a cool concept for sci-fi. besides rewriting the prequels to actually make sense, I would love to have seen the presentation of the clone trooper to the galactic senate and their reactions. As well as the clone trooper's reaction to not seeing the same face he's seen for years (and aliens that aren't long necked weirdos)
