Drugs are a hell of a drug

I am a meth addict since 9 years and I "somewhat" can control it.
I do stupid things like smoking meth in Asia, but I never inject it, and can refuse it if I feel too tweaked out, or that it is too strong or obviously contaminated with something super toxic.
I can't stop using it, but there is certain range of choice I do engage in when in binge.

People are comparing the two because the irresistible urge is similar, in that they cannot refuse it. Whether he wrote about it with that in mind or not, they are similar. Even if you don’t intend to write something without metaphors, people will still see connections and similarities. Your autistic freak out means nothing, and adds nothing of value. Frick off.

you making the comparison is line with tolkien. what tolkien hated was others deliberately and intentionally forcing the comparison upon the reader
the ring is the way it is not to make you think of drug addiction but if you do that's okay

A story doesn't have to be a one to one allegory to have themes applicable to real life. Tolkien said that the Ring isn't an allegory for atomic power but did admit that it is an allegory for power. Similarly you can say that Gollum isn't an allegory for literal junkies but an allegory for addiction in general, or greed for power (the ring). Then by looking at the real world and all these people ruined by addiction and greed you can see how true to life Tolkien wrote even when the story is about elves and dwarfs and magic.

he said he hated allegory in all its forms

          He hated deliberate allegory. Pleb.

in his vocabulary ALL allegory was deliberate, as opposed to simply presenting a sequence of events without hidden agenda and leaving the interpretation up to the reader

            >more elaborate metaphors
            irrelevant.
allegory is a specific thing which tolkien didn't care for.
that same attitude did not apply to all metaphors.

            >he said he hated allegory in all its forms
He did, yet wrote one. He called the story an allegory of power. But applicability is the word he preferred. He didn't set out to write an allegory on anything but you can applicate aspects of the story on different things. So it's completely valid to point at real life drug addicts when OP asks that would somebody really let themselves go full Gollum. Point being

That's why it's one of the best ever, because he didn't set out to make it one and therefore could be honest and truthful in his exploration of his idea of what the one ring would do to a person.
If you try to shove in a metaphor where it doesn't belong, it bears the marks of being shoved in making it clumsy and inaccurate.

He wasn’t completely weak willed. Sauron let him live because it took so long to break him while torturing him. This is also the reason Sauron was so late to get the ringwraiths to the shire. The little thing befuddled Sauron

It took like a decade to capture him and torture him even when he was living in Shelob cave.

I grew up in the north and we never had a problem with homeless until the late 1990s because the winters always cleaned them out. Then the state started building homeless shelters and now we have a thriving population of homeless people pissing on the sidewalk and stealing lightbulbs to make meth pipes. Hustle AND bustle.

You can and should judge them, really it should say "have empathy" rather than "don't judge". Most of those people were raised by shitty parents, abused by close family members, have mental issues and severe trauma, had horrible lives so they turned to drugs to cope. It's tragic. All that doesn't mean you shouldn't judge their lifestyles as subhuman and avoid them though. That's an idiotic notion.

Even in Maine the homeless didn’t exist until the liberals started giving them money and not prosecuting them. I worked security and the one I would catch and see the backgrounds on were all scum from down south that moved in specifically for the gibs and free housing. They had no connection to the state. There lifestyle is only possible thanks to handouts.

Without it you just get substance abuse cases who end up homeless, go to the ER and then end up in rehab. They without the subsiding of their life style go in and out of rehab till they sober up or end up in a mental institution.

I live in the south and all of the homeless people are fat, old morons that are too lazy to travel more than two blocks from the homeless shelters that only exist because this area is comparatively a little bit liberal so there are a grand total of 2 in three counties. Most of the drug addicts just move into a pile of trash in the woods and make meth. Every has guns so the only real crime is the occasional beaner shooting his GF.
