okay so realistically at what point would someone just be like “yeah yknow maybe this isnt worth it”?

Drugs are a hell of a drug
This, druggies see people overdosing on the streets and still decide to start using.
yeah, the fent zombies shuffling around outside look like theyre having a great time
I am a meth addict since 9 years and I "somewhat" can control it.
I do stupid things like smoking meth in Asia, but I never inject it, and can refuse it if I feel too tweaked out, or that it is too strong or obviously contaminated with something super toxic.
I can't stop using it, but there is certain range of choice I do engage in when in binge.
the Ring is NOT I repeat NOT a metaphor for adduction
he said he hated metaphors
so no, just because you drink 20 beers a day or smoke meth on the street, it doesn't make you Frodo
>he said he hated metaphors
You're so fricking dumb
Well he did, what? Are you one of those white supremacist inserters who think the Orcs are Arabs?
mental illness
Address the issue rather than prancing around like a tard. I'm not the person you replied to either.
what are you on about? moron
>orcs are arabs
lmao, they're Black folk anon
reminder that allegories are just more elaborate metaphors you fricking plebs
>inb4 nuh-uh ur dumb
you making the comparison is line with tolkien. what tolkien hated was others deliberately and intentionally forcing the comparison upon the reader
the ring is the way it is not to make you think of drug addiction but if you do that's okay
he said he hated allegory in all its forms
in his vocabulary ALL allegory was deliberate, as opposed to simply presenting a sequence of events without hidden agenda and leaving the interpretation up to the reader
>more elaborate metaphors
irrelevant.
allegory is a specific thing which tolkien didn't care for.
that same attitude did not apply to all metaphors.
>he said he hated allegory in all its forms
He did, yet wrote one. He called the story an allegory of power. But applicability is the word he preferred. He didn't set out to write an allegory on anything but you can applicate aspects of the story on different things. So it's completely valid to point at real life drug addicts when OP asks that would somebody really let themselves go full Gollum. Point being
was being a moron and should frick off.
He admitted to one allegory anyway, the orcs were admittedly his feelings of being a soldier in a modern industrial war
>the Ring is NOT I repeat NOT a metaphor for adduction
People are comparing the two because the irresistible urge is similar, in that they cannot refuse it. Whether he wrote about it with that in mind or not, they are similar. Even if you don’t intend to write something without metaphors, people will still see connections and similarities. Your autistic freak out means nothing, and adds nothing of value. Frick off.
A story doesn't have to be a one to one allegory to have themes applicable to real life. Tolkien said that the Ring isn't an allegory for atomic power but did admit that it is an allegory for power. Similarly you can say that Gollum isn't an allegory for literal junkies but an allegory for addiction in general, or greed for power (the ring). Then by looking at the real world and all these people ruined by addiction and greed you can see how true to life Tolkien wrote even when the story is about elves and dwarfs and magic.
>he hated metaphors
allegory you moron. he hated allegory
That's why it's one of the best ever, because he didn't set out to make it one and therefore could be honest and truthful in his exploration of his idea of what the one ring would do to a person.
If you try to shove in a metaphor where it doesn't belong, it bears the marks of being shoved in making it clumsy and inaccurate.
He hated deliberate allegory. Pleb.
*browses Cinemaphile every day for the last 15 years*
Holy shit is Cinemaphile the One Ring?
Ask drug addicts.
the ringsie is always worth it
The ring compelled him. It had total control over him. He was weak willed and the ring took full advantage of it.
He wasn’t completely weak willed. Sauron let him live because it took so long to break him while torturing him. This is also the reason Sauron was so late to get the ringwraiths to the shire. The little thing befuddled Sauron
It took like a decade to capture him and torture him even when he was living in Shelob cave.
>my face after my latest degenerate goon sesh
Realistically never. Have you seen the things freaks do in real life?
>okay so realistically at what point would someone just be like “yeah yknow maybe this isnt worth it”?
>and winter is coming
Does cold weather actually kill more homeless than their lifestyle?
>Does cold weather actually kill more homeless than their lifestyle?
I grew up in the north and we never had a problem with homeless until the late 1990s because the winters always cleaned them out. Then the state started building homeless shelters and now we have a thriving population of homeless people pissing on the sidewalk and stealing lightbulbs to make meth pipes. Hustle AND bustle.
Seattle got a lot worse when they started letting people put RVs and tents on the sidewalks
That makes me sad, because I’m rewatching Frasier and Seattle in the 90s seems comfy.
If you live five hundred feet above street level anywhere can be nice.
Seattle in the 90s had anti banking riots led by RATM
>led by glowies
Based. Shame what they've become in current year
>what they've become
They were always corporate prostitutes. You just got older and finally noticed.
AND YOU DO WHAT THEY TOLD YA
COMEWIDIT NOW
FRICK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YA TELL ME
FRICK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YA TELL ME
KILLING IN THE NAME OF
It’s crazy the band that told you it was wrong and evil to serve in a military that goes to Afghanistan and Iraq in the 90’s 2000’s would tell you it’s wrong to protest armies going into Palestine today? Yeah wonder why that is?
>Seattle got a lot worse when they started letting people put RVs and tents on the sidewalks
Um acktchually chud, I've been informed that the homeless problem in Seattle is not that bad!
Seattle got a lot worse when they started letting women vote.
_____ got a lot worse when they started letting women vote.
______ got a lot worse when women started existing
I live in Seattle and yeah the areas full of homeless encampments and RVs are sketchy as shit.
Downtown doesn’t even have homeless camps but the druggies all hang out there and it’s sketch as shit.
And this guy is joking but if you ever complain you’ll 100% encounter the stereotypical bearded reddit atheist / homosexual (gay) who says shit like this
>never judge no matter what circumstances people are in
Why wouldn’t someone judge a filthy junkie?
You can and should judge them, really it should say "have empathy" rather than "don't judge". Most of those people were raised by shitty parents, abused by close family members, have mental issues and severe trauma, had horrible lives so they turned to drugs to cope. It's tragic. All that doesn't mean you shouldn't judge their lifestyles as subhuman and avoid them though. That's an idiotic notion.
40k people commit suicide a year in the US alone. That's when they figure out it's not worth it.
I see they're releasing cut footage from Fallout TV show. Filly, right? Very authentic. Should've left that in the show, for atmosphere.
Literally what I was just thinking, especially with the campfire on the footpath
>campfire
It's a tire.
A tire campfire
What would happen if you rounded all these people up, put them in a van, put them in the army, cut off their drugs, how many of them could be made functioning members of society
Junkies and homeless people do this all the time, all around you
didnt we tell yo ass
>okay so realistically at what point would someone just be like “yeah yknow maybe this isnt worth it”?
?si=KtkCgvaxZDg8YpD0
america really lags behind russia on this one
they had krokodil 10+ years ago
let's ask that homeless guy in Tijuana who was too high on meth to notice his own scalp was necrotic and his skull was exposed.
Don't look up that video.
His clan threw rocks at him to make him leave after he wouldn't stop stealing and being weird. He couldn't imagine living a different way after being exiled and his only hope was for someone to physically take the Ring from him which he would have killed them over. Gandalf comments that Bilbo took longer to be enraptured by the Ring because he didn't take possession of it by murder.
People do fricked up shit for drugs and pussy. You think an evil corrupting magical ring wouldn’t make you a zombie simp? Please people can’t stop eating McDonald’s and that’s not even forged by Sauron.
by the time the ring fully corrupts you, you've already passed your expected lifespan while being in your prime. seems like a good deal.
Even in Maine the homeless didn’t exist until the liberals started giving them money and not prosecuting them. I worked security and the one I would catch and see the backgrounds on were all scum from down south that moved in specifically for the gibs and free housing. They had no connection to the state. There lifestyle is only possible thanks to handouts.
Without it you just get substance abuse cases who end up homeless, go to the ER and then end up in rehab. They without the subsiding of their life style go in and out of rehab till they sober up or end up in a mental institution.
I live in the south and all of the homeless people are fat, old morons that are too lazy to travel more than two blocks from the homeless shelters that only exist because this area is comparatively a little bit liberal so there are a grand total of 2 in three counties. Most of the drug addicts just move into a pile of trash in the woods and make meth. Every has guns so the only real crime is the occasional beaner shooting his GF.
I was always nabbing frickups from redder states that didn’t give them money so they moved here. They had a tent city outside on of the retail complexes and regularly robbed the mall to pawn for drugs.
The locals were usually just addicts I’d find passed out covered in their own piss and would have to call the paramedics for
Of course its worth it, you can turn invisible and perv on elves
Being a junkie or a tweaker looks like an exciting lifestyle depending on how deep into it you are. They're always going on whacky adventures and getting into hijinks while looking for their next fix. Someone ought to make a sitcom about these funny characters
Being the ringbearer is like cooming all the time, only you never come down. If someone tried to take that away from you, you would go fricking crazy.
