Old West

>Is never the butt of any jokes.
>Always solves and has the solution to the problem.
>Women swoon over him.
>Is universally respected by everyone for no reason.

I just hate him so much it's unreal. Family guy was always shit, but episodes with Old West in it are fricking unwatchable. Is there something in this guy's contract that states he must adored and idolized whenever he appears on screen?

I can't be the only one who sees it, right?

i'm amazed people can have opinions about specific family guy "characters".

I generally don't. But this character is conspicuous in writing in a way that other characters aren't. You can't watch an episode of family guy with Old West in it and walk away without noticing the entire show warps and bends around him.

Yeah he really sucks. His whole joke is that he is super manly. And that's it. And everyone loves him for it. The other west was a crazy guy with unlimited comedy potential. The current west has zero good jokes and sucks the joy out of any scene he is in.

I don't think there is any way to save this character he is just too one note and the note he is is boring. Like Barney from The Simpsons was a funny one-note character because you can do a million drunk guy jokes.

But what can you do with a guy who's whole shtick is that he is manly? I mean that one guy from Parks And Rec was pretty funny. But he had other parts to his personality. He was a right-wing libertarian. He was serious and no-nonsense but wasn't too up his own ass.

But this west guy what does he have? He is just manly. I mean if they were willing to make manly jokes that make fun of masculinity with him it could be funny but honestly in this current media landscape it would just come off as overplayed and annoying.

In conclusion, he sucks and there is no saving him. Just right him off and make Herbert the Pevert mayor.

The joke is that he's a completely played-straight Western character in the wacky Family Guy universe. It's not as funny as Adam West, but it's funny in a post-irony millennial antijoke way. Plus, I just like Sam Elliot.

      >The joke is that he's a completely played-straight
The joke doesn't land. At all. Plus his moustache sometimes moves on its own. That's not playing it straight. It's not playing it straight when the entire cast completely drops their preestablished roles to fawn over him either. He's a black hole for comedy.

      >post-irony millennial antijoke
This kind of humor just comes across as extremely pretentious to me.
That said I got nothing against Sam Elliott so I'm fine with the character.

Antijokes are more a Gen Z thing.

Of course everyone notices it, literally everyone else in the show gets shat on so it really sticks out as weird.

He was the mayor and he died so they kinda had to.

Why the hell are you taking any character in Family Guy seriously; they're all just a bunch of moronic jokeboxes. This one in particular is a walking cutaway gag.

      Not Old West.

I haven't kept up with Family Guy, but of what I did watch after Old West was introduced, his involvement was generally sporadic.

I'm not expecting quality, nor am I asking for it. I'm just trying to figure out why this entire show seems to warp around this character whenever he's on screen.
