Japan covers are better
Rental covers are cooler than the retail ones though
Sure, US cover couldn't even bother to properly edit the cells for Knuckles and Tails
after loving this as a kid, going back and seeing this i realise it's actually just pretty alright, but it's for some reason the only sonic adaptation to actually get a good feel of the game's music which is insane considering it's easily the franchise's most consistent draw
>it's actually just pretty alright
It's exactly what Sonic should be. Aimed at 6-year olds.
It's not deep but it definitely has its charms. It does a good job of representing early Japanese Sonic, rather than the Americanized cartoons
Fun fact, this was actually supposed to be a pilot for a series. Didn't happen, obviously, but it would've been interesting. Gotta imagine they'd have Sera just be Amy, since it's weird that the former exists in the first place.
Any idea why it didn't get picked up? I assume just because the Japanese don't care about Sonic as much as autistic westerners.
That's probably it, yeah. Hell, the Brits carre more about Sonic than Japan does. That's always been such a fascinating phenomenon, where a piece of media catches on in foreign markets but can barely even pretend to maintain relevance in its home country.
Not really that fascinating. Sonic was always aimed primarily towards Americans from the jump. Japan doesn't really have a great history with animal characters outside of the cutesy-poo Sanrio stuff.
Japanese folklore is filled with made up anthro creatures, if anything they have more of a history of it than anywhere else in the world.
That's a pretty bold statement for a Cinemaphilener. Do you have any sources to back it up?

Europe loved Sega back in their haydey. The NES wasn't a big deal like in america since europe didn't have a gaming crash.
The Brits don't even see Sonic as a Japanese creation. They see him as a fellow bloke. That's why they tend to complain about how Sonic has become too "anime". Which is why Super Sonic is evil in the Fleetway comic because they failed to see the homage to Super Saiyan Goku.
Anime is evil though
Sonic *is* interactive anime, and not amount of coping will ever change that.
It's hardly surprising they wouldn't get the Dragon Ball reference, when Super Sonic first appeared in the comic it would be a further five to six years before Dragon Ball even started airing there... Even of they knew what it was referencing they wouldn't have been able to access the source material easily anyway...
I wonder what cartoons were popular in Britland in the 90s, when the rest of the world was enjoying Dragon Ball and other anime.
presumably would just be anything that aired on CBBC and ITV. That's how it was in the 2000s
We definitely had Dragon Ball as I remember seeing it when I was a kid. Though I honestly can't remember if was the late 90s or early 2000s
>because they failed to see the homage to Super Saiyan Goku.
Or because they thought it was more interesting?
sonic is really unpopular in japan. i heard when sonic team was making NiGHTS and expecting it to be a side project to sonic stuff, it got so much more popular that people actually started sending in letters saying "why do you call yourself 'sonic' team if you make nights?" because they literally didn't even know who that was lol
Why not just entrust it with the Americans? That's what they would end up doing with the Metarex Saga.
Don't you already have 10 american sonic series? Or you mean that specific studio? They can always just start outsourcing using that studio.
>>>Cinemaphile ,homosexual.
Though this movie is peak classic Sonic animation. Better than what the west was churning out.
Sonic gets deleted on Cinemaphile, doesn't matter if it's the ova or sonic x.
I know Cinemaphile jannies are moronic, but this is still an anime. I don't expect this thread to last much longer.
Cinemaphile is for pedophile cartoons.
What the hell kind of voice was Sonic's VA going for?
Non-union bootleg Jaleel White.
Typical ADV weirdness.
