It was pretty satisfying, I hope someone does a mega for the HD digital release later, I want to properly enjoy the 2D animation. I wish they'd have aired Snow White like the other anon said but I guess they at least have a reason to do Encanto as a broadcast premiere or whatever. Still feels like a dumb way to celebrate the 100th by airing a modern flick from 2021.
I already turned off the stream. I'm glad Honey Lemon and Jane both got to appear without being obscured or only in the far shot. Would've loved to hear one of them speak but I'm just glad to see new animation for both of them. That Big Hero 6 cartoon design sucked which is unfortunate because she (and the others) could've translated to 2D nicely.

To be fair the remake sounds like it's set to prove why they probably "wouldn't" want to air Snow White in the modern day.

Surprising they allowed that much heterosexuality.

His dad didn’t show up so they probably know people generally disliked it. But also it’s a celebration not a roast. Would probably sour the mood and be mean-spirited

Any way of knowing how many of these are new recordings vs. reused outtakes? Obviously some would have to be repurposed because of dead actors, but I doubt Disney would get original lines from a lot of these bigger names. Like, there’s no way they went to Billy Joel and asked him to record new Oliver and Company lines for a Disney+ advertisement short.

        Anonymous

I don't think there's a clear consensus so far on just how many were archival recordings, I pulled that list from the end credits.
        >there’s no way they went to Billy Joel and asked him to record new Oliver and Company lines
He didn't even have any dialogue, he just did a quick howl. No way he came back.

I'm gonna assume pretty much every line from every actor is surprising to see listed was from archival recording outtakes

There's this weird splinter of Hans fans who think he's some poor misunderstood victim who deserves to be redeemed and paired up with Elsa who got real pissy when the first trailer for this dropped and showed the gag of him being frozen in the picture frame.

This scene pisses me off so much. Obvious sentimental bait bullshit by Iger using Walt's image. Walt Disney himself would beat the bloody hell out of that shitty c**t Iger and his patsy Chapek for what they have done to his company. I got more respect for Nomura's Kingdom Hearts series than Iger's Disney.

Walt played little to no role in the company's economic side. He just wanted to make animation and he'd probably would have made everything go bankroupt if it wasn't for the others. I don't see nothing bad in making MIckey pay respect to the most influential animator ever, but you thinking Walt was some sort of enlightened business man is pretty hilarious, he was the kind of guy who would threw movie money into a short.

On with the show Mickey says...?

Walt personally hated sequels and what does Disney have in store? Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, Inside Out 2, and Zootopia 2. Walt would feel great shame at seeing sequels. Walt always preferred investing in new differing concepts. And I hope all these sequels fail.

You can still get 2D animation that is high tier, it just won't be made by Disney theatrical movies. Also it still won't sell. You won't get audiences to spend modern ticket prices to watch something that looks like say Aladdin or Lion King. Normie families are no longer impressed by that. Hell even the cheap choppy eye cancer animation of Spider Verse is no longer that trendy either. Normies are becoming hard to impress.

False, you’re way behind the times. 2D would be more impressive now.

Just so we're clear this stupid little animated short is NOT going to save the Walt Disney Company. And don't bother saying "No one thinks that" because yes you did. Got to stop you from thinking this emotional bait short is going to salvage all the shit Disney has made including killing Star Wars and Marvel. Their sins are not excused just because they refer to old glory. I'm glad modern kids don't give a damn about Disney.

the wondrous journeys projection show at disneyland is pretty cool. world of color: one was alright. all the 100th anniversary decoration and merch was neat for a while. but then again, im fortunate enough to live close to disneyland so i was able to experience all of that.
but i suppose you could always just watch the projection show on youtube. theres some good quality videos there.

but yeah, i guess outside of the disney parks, there really wasnt much on the 100th anniversary.

Because the creatives at a company are not the same as the executives who decide what’s made
And that’s been the same throughout animation industry the good stuff is made ONLY when the execs encourage unrestricted creative control of a product and the execs now at Disney are horseshit but let this one slide for the 100th

It was okay, at least by corporate jerk-off standards. It had a few a cute moments
Using Genie's and Iago's voices felt gross to them though. And I don't think they were previous recordings like some of the other characters

      Anonymous

Genie was Williams outtakes, Iago was a soundalike.

        Anonymous

Alright, I'll let Genie slide. And Iago, not ideal but fine.
With that being the case, it was an okay short, nowhere near as soulless and pandering as it could've been

      Anonymous

They at least got permission from Williams' family before using his outtakes, and considering it's all of two lines, it's not as ghoulish and manipulative as I thought it was gonna be. Iago's credited as a new VA though so IDK what the situation is on that one.

It was great to see traditional princesses get respected again after Wreck It Ralph 2... and pretty much every other thing these days. This obviously doesn't mean everything is suddenly on the right track for these characters again but it'll help me keep my sanity until the next shit remake ruins Snow White or some other "actually you were wrong for liking them the way they were depicted for decades" thing happens again.

It's extremely satisfying to enjoy new content for purely wholesome ladies like these again. No modernization like Cinderella breaking a glass slipper and wanting to use it as a weapon for shit comedy, instead Charming loses his shoe and they have a very cute laugh about it. It's simple and loveable. I appreciate this bit a lot. I'll never understand how the world can suck so fricking much that this sort of light-hearted and simple characterization for women struggles to be understood, enjoyed, or even considered acceptable today.
