it's a good movie but honestly it's not realistic to expect people to watch an erotic/"art house" bw Japanese movie from the 1960s.. most people just aren't open to it. IME people just really really hate foreign films. I have a friend that literally had a degree in cinematography and even he doesn't watch foreign films anymore. all he watches are Hollywood level art-house films like Neon Demon.
I'm still annoyed that a friend who literally went to school for cinema and now works as a camera operator in LA no longer seems to care about films at all. it's just weird how many people I know that seemed to stop caring about everything beyond basic water cooler media. If it's not already being discussed by society at large like Game of thrones then my friends, formerly curious interesting people, do not give a frick about it.
