I think I watched a couple of episodes years ago, basically the lead is so powerful he instantly destroys every villain, so the idea is that what, he's so apathetic he doesn't bother most of the time, or is he not really the protagonist and it's more about the other characters, or what?

It showed exactly why the shounen genre is overplayed, boring and shitty nowadays while being very funny with spot-on parodies.
Sadly they then went on to make Mob Psycho which repeats all the things One Punch Man shat on and made fun of but unironically.
Showing that One Punch Man was just a fluke and that they are moronic after all. Mob Psycho have made me hate One Punch Man in retrospect by invalidating the entire premise that modern shounen is shit.

Never bothered with it because I saw Mob Psycho and lost all respect for One Punch Man as it showed that they are soulless cash grabbers.

This is actually an all-western misunderstanding of the series as whole. OPM is a satire of Japanese hero shows and tokusatsu, and had nothing to do with an battle shonen manga and anime, that's a wrong impression derived from the Murata makeover that gave some characters redesigns resembling Akira Toriyama, thought you could argue that with Murata taking over the manga in recent years the original intention has been lost.
