Genuine question: do you guys like the jaded/depressing direction that Massa had in mind with some of his episode ideas? I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that it's the awful physical/mental health situation he's in influencing his perception. I feel it contradicts the grounded but optimistic direction the pilot started the series out on.
How is the pilot optimistic? All we see is Maya saved by Coco, with no thanks or anything from her. I said it once, but Maya is shown incapable of improving in the pilot. Sure, it's the pilot, it won't resolve the central conflict of the show, but I also would not call it optimistic, especially how Massa was fine with calling it a short story, suggesting improvement would not have been a core feature for Maya.
Maya is clearly 'Massa but woman' with her issues, and Massa himself sounded really sad in the 40 minute audio that circulated here. If he knew how Maya could've fixed her issues, he'd have fixed his own problems.
I meant like comparably optimistic. As in, with something like the pilot, there isn't much character growth with Maya—her personality is mostly rigid—but there IS relationship development. In the first scene Maya cannot tolerate the idea of working with Coco, and, when offered help by Coco she cannot believe the offer is sincere. Yet by the end of the episode, her pessismistic worldview is nuked when she cannot deny that her sisters saved the day and got her to pass. She comes to warm up to Coco's efforts. While she may deny Coco's offer to play Ludo, she still chooses to try and partake in her own small way that she's comfortable with. The siblings relationships have all grown undeniably closer. If they hadn't and Maya was truly the same as in the first scene, she wouldn't have put her ear up to wall, she'd have just ignored it entirely and buried herself back in whatever anime she's watching that week.
This does mirror Massa's experience. He may be sad now, but keep in mind, he has said with the cancellation that he doesn't relate as much to Maya anymore now that he's gotten older. I mean the proof is in the fact that the man has a girlfriend now. Meanwhile, Maya is still in that forever-alone phase. If we're to treat Maya and her story as exclusively reflective of Massa's personal journey, that still leaves a lot of room for her to progress
i dont think it has to be depressing, the thing that made ongezellig refreshing for me is that it treats mayas problems very similar to real life problems, it isnt a constant pain that you cant get out of it like in bojack horseman but it isnt also something you just can say "its cringe" and move from it like in smiling friends. mayas depression is a slow but steady grow. not utterly pessimistic but also not annoyingly positive.
if i had to write it, i would probably do like a spectrum of how each episode improves or worsens mayas habits and by the end we see how maya changes.....but she still deals with her problems, now she just found a way to deal with them in a more healthy way.

The main principles of Ongezellig: (Unofficially) Continued have always been to:
1. Stay true to Massa's vision as much as possible. We are not interested in making a "fanfic". We are interested in continuing the story started by Massa's pilot as accurately as possible. We have no desire for self-inserts, shipping, or any other unwelcome additions.
2. Rehabilitate the image of Ongezellig to make it more appealing to studios, which have otherwise avoided this cartoon with a strong fandom that'd normally make it very desirable due to proven positive audience reception.
3. Actively work on behalf of Massa to get his pilot picked up by animation studios, with great care to only improve—not inadvertently ruin—its odds.
Along with this, we hope that we can eventually directly work with and take advice from him. At the risk of sounding presumptuous, the ideal scenario is that when we catch his attention (and perhaps after some months of consistent uploads), we can actually work with him as much or as little as he's interested in. At the very least, something along the lines of sending scripts to him in advance for his approval or feedback.
Additionally, with the Mymy design poll, while it was useful community feedback we realized quickly that Louca's changes were made for many good reasons. It was not worth taking a chance to revert an official/canon decision or complicate production. In any scenario, we will always err on the side of going with what Massa has chosen/would want.
I realize there are concerns with what people assume our associations are. They've defined us with the negative connotations of inaccurate labels. This project is not affiliated with any specific part of the community. We are completely independent and have no interest in drama, internal or external. We also have no intentions of alienating any part of the community, even in the way we've had to recruit members for the project. Our sole affiliation is the Ongezellig community itself.

I don't think I have ever seen a child that actually looks like a cartoon. Maybe if it was one of those realistically rendered illustrations/AI generations, but when it's big anime googly eyes on colorful lollipop bodies and melted plastic hair being attracted to that is clearly its own kind of weird. Il just post the most fan fic idea i had for an episode.
Coco/vera centric episode where cocos band finally decides to take the whole thing seriously. At first it seems delusional but they have potential, coco seems to remember that vera is good with music and after some comedical stuff vera is convinced to tutor them. Episode goes into the band actually becoming a local hit in the place, but some stuff makes vera both proud of it but also very bossy. Make the climax of the episode be the revelation that vera sees herself in the band and the reason she started becoming more antagonistic is that, in her own selfish way, she saw herself in these kids and she doesnt want more people to end up suffering as she did. I dont know how the episode would end, but would like this episode to be about the struggle of never knowing if you are lucky enough to actually get things right for you to achieve what you want. The moral being that even with all things right, you still can fail, but that should not stop you for enjoying your dream, the entire reason you started having passion in the first place.
