The most culture of the Netherlands seen to international audiences is mainly of the two Holland provinces rather than the entire country. Outside of there, culture is much more different. A Dutch person from Zeeland isn't the same as a Dutch person from east Overijssel. A Dutch person from North Brabant isn't the same as a Dutch person from Limburg. Hell, a Dutch person from Groningen city isn't the same as a Dutch person from rural Groningen province area. We don't have many cities outside the Randstad and most of them are just glorified villages surrounded by seas of rural farmland and plains.
Outside of the Randstad in the West, the Netherlands is a very rural country. Each province has its own little culture and customs. We don't have more big Dutch fast food chains, because people rather go to the local/regional snackbar around the corner than go to big chains.

The pressure of completing the pilot has been replaced by the pressure of securing a successful pitch. It's now 16 months later, but I can't see any light at the end of the pitch tunnel yet. Unsociable is an expensive and long-lasting anomaly with a niche audience. I fear a future in which I have to keep you on a Half Life 3-like leash for many years to come without ever living up to expectations.

In the meantime, all lights are still on red for the independent continuation of Ongezellig. The pilot was unable to reach the target amount and that is not yet taking inflation into account. Although many new viewers have been added, according to statistics, mainly among demographics that are less likely to contribute.
Unzellig has proven to be a hit in Russia, with more than 200,000 new viewers. That is precisely the country from which we cannot expect a single ruble due to sanctions. In addition, a surprising number of cheaters appeared to evade direct debits using foreign credit cards, resulting in lower income than shown. This has never been a problem with iDEAL, which once again emphasizes the preference of petje.af over Patreon.

In his announcement page on the petjeaf, he says some were caught using fake credit cards to access the rewards and that iDEAL actively helped prevent fraudsters from continuous use of those cards that Patreon doesn't do a good job with, or something. Understandable I guess, but still.

Pitching
I was 22 when the idea of Unsociable came to mind and next month I will be 30 again. How time flies and my back hurts.
The pressure of completing the pilot has been replaced by the pressure of securing a successful pitch. It's now 16 months later, but I can't see any light at the end of the pitch tunnel yet. Unsociable is an expensive and long-lasting anomaly with a niche audience. I fear a future in which I have to keep you on a Half Life 3-like leash for many years to come without ever living up to expectations.
Independent
In the meantime, all lights are still on red for the independent continuation of Ongezellig. The pilot was unable to reach the target amount and that is not yet taking inflation into account. Although many new viewers have been added, according to statistics, mainly among demographics that are less likely to contribute.
Unzellig has proven to be a hit in Russia, with more than 200,000 new viewers. That is precisely the country from which we cannot expect a single ruble due to sanctions. In addition, a surprising number of cheaters appeared to evade direct debits using foreign credit cards, resulting in lower income than shown. This has never been a problem with iDEAL, which once again emphasizes the preference of petje.af over Patreon.
A big project needs a big budget. The Dutch have been at the heart of this from the start, and that is precisely the demographic that seems to have grown the least but is the most open to new projects. Somewhat related:

Last month I uploaded the Iceberg of the Netherlands. To my surprise, this video was viewed more than twice as often in the first four weeks compared to all parts of Unzellig, ....
... and also sold a whole edition of posters that turned out to be particularly popular in classrooms. It's still not enough to base a career on, but it does provide a new perspective on the post-pilot era.
Conclusion
The combination of a burnout, a new phase of life, a difficult pitch phase, limited support and a successful side activity have made me decide to make a difficult decision. I expect your disappointment but hope for your understanding.
Unzellig was a super ambitious project and completing the pilot was an achievement in itself, but a series seems like a bridge too far. I am hereby discontinuing the pitching and some rewards associated with this campaign.
For example, after four years I will stop the monthly illustrations, which I hereby make public to everyone. Because there are still holes in the lore, I will add to them over time, but no longer on a monthly or exclusive basis.
