Awesome! I hope the Q&A reveals some of the reasons why series creator massa grew to hate the shows growing non-Dutch fan base and subsequently cancel Ongezellig out of spite.
I know you're a worthless spammer who insists on his dogshit take to be accepted but just to set the record straight: The growing international fan base was both an innocent victim and a trojan horse for some of the worst people you could ever call your "fans". Any feelings and soft or hard spoken opinions he may have about it are completely understandable, justified and deserved. No wonder he's depressed.
That change in Coco's behaviour just dropped my jaw, thank you for making me realise that. More people need to see and appreciate small details like these, such good writing. Man it's such a fricking shame Massa didn't get his funding and rolled a 1 when it came to the fanbases that picked up this show and ran with it. I would've loved to see more little details and developments like that.
All I can say is good luck with the projects guys, I don't think he will help out even acknowledge it's existence unfortunately unless it's a takedown, you're doing this completely for yourselves but I think commitments like these are the biggest forms of flattery and one of the better ways to deal with an obsession in light of other things.

It was a great pilot, but just like 90% of indie animators who start a series like this they realize why cartoons require big teams of people and lots of money, and run out of steam. At least he had the decency to tell us more episodes aren't happening instead of trickling out updates and disappearing like most.

You can rewatch it many times and discover some new hidden detail every time. That's the telltale sign of a magnum opus.

I was going to respond with some shit but now that i think about, i do wonder why this shit clicked when a lot of other shit didnt. The humor bever breaks the tone of the situation, as in the humor isnt a quip. like mcu quips that question why something happens. It feels more like actual interactions with funny exagerations(this shit will probably bite me in the ass later because deels 1-3 have different humor than deels 4-6). The execution of the concept is kinda refreshing? Innovation doesnt come from an idea being good alone, but also when that idea is thought out and when its executed. Ongezellig gives this moral that shit like mayas depression isnt that bad that it ruins her whole life like most adult shows about it, but it also doesnt go the other way to say that depression is just curable if all the things bothering you go away. Its irrational and the show makes it pretty good by making mayas problem make her act weird in an otherwise normal reality(if we exclude mymys existence). Finally, the whole tension thing of coco and maya is one thing i do personally like. That was the hook that kinda got me into actually using Cinemaphile to see more of the series and get the petje af stuff to learn more. Just the conflict between a resentful miserable girl and her sister trying so hard to make her have a better time, is interesting to me. Specially with more stuff like the cat thing, maya using the fact that shes not adopted to get "an edge" over her more superior sisters, the 16 comic. This series felt refreshing to me and it felt different from other indie stuff. Those that just seemed like the authors personal fun trying way to hard to go into a more broad market without changing the product to be more digestible towards that same market, like dead end.

Less explosives ones like the whole "changing her hair with her tie" or the belgians joke. She goes from an very loud character to a more subtle one, but still the same nationalist that will bully her sister for being belgian.
Massa poured a lot of his own memories into Maya, and then some more, making her into an abstraction of a set of problems. This allows very many people to relate to her.
It may be that I do not consume enough media, or the right kind of media, but Mayas position as someone aware of the problem, but somehow, inexplicably being powerless to fix it. This leads her to create a system of thought in which she is not happy, but at least suffers little.
On the other hand, her struggles with Coco may resonate more with you. Coco wants to help Maya, but Maya keeps rejecting her, as she thinks Coco just pities her without actually caring about her. Coco, meanwhile, tries her hardest to help Maya out, and her efforts are always frustrated by Mayas weird bullshit, herself becoming powerless to fix the issue.
Another aspect may be the that Maya does not live, only exist. Her days are nothing but pauses between looking at porn, and she can only continue doing this because Coco keeps her afloat.
I do not think it is an otherwise predictable idea. It expresses a set of emotions that, when put into words, fail to completely convey the same message the show does. Besides, it appeals to the braindead sense of humor common nowadays, where only holocaust jokes and porn in the presentation can entertain people.

i mean yeah, the comedy would have been good, but a topic like mayas cat, the thing that kickstated most of maya resentments to coco, dying and the episode dealing with the fallout sounds way too important for a season 1 casual episode. i guess massa only talked about "important" episodes cuz mymys sister and mayas cat episodes do sound like a change to status quo.

They seemed like alright ideas for a Season 1. We only got one fully fleshed out episode and a few scattered ideas. I imagine the cat episode would've been very heartfelt, rather than just an excuse to shit on Maya.

I can tell you for certain that is genuinely what's happening. I remember when I was at some low points, all my scripts and stories were really depressing. One of my comedies progressively turned bleaker and became an awfully depressing dark comedy. Keep in mind that Maya and Mymy are characters inherently designed as reflections of Massa's personality and many episode ideas were pulled from personal experiences. So as he goes through dark times they get especially negatively distorted in his mind
Before the 40 minute audio, I believed Maya was an amalgamation of multiple peoples experiences. Her thoughts seem conflicting(wants to be alone on an island, but is also jealous of Cocos friendships) at times, and so I believed she was created so in order to allow more people to relate to her.
For me, an essential part of her troubles is the failure to grow. It is her very first internal monologue we hear: "I'm stuck." and I think it drives home the point that she is unwilling to better herself.
She forgets about the presentation, Coco offers to work with her twice, once she even gets Mymy to help out, and in the end, Maya presents Mymys presentation. It was entirely her sisters' effort that saved her, and what does she do? She goes back to watching porn after insulting Coco. She could change, but she does not even put in the effort to take the help offered by her sister.
I think the pilot portrays this very nicely: whereas Coco starts with barging through the door and immediately jumping onto Maya, she now knocks and calmly asks. Maya, on the other hand, went from watching porn to watching porn.

I do like that detail that by the end, the sisters seem nicer to mayas struggles. Hell, to me mymy is an unique case because it can be made the case that shes actually unaware that maya is suffering. yknow, something i do like is that all of the three sisters could be their own protagonist of the setting. cocos side could be about the weird friends she has or the stuff she puts up to be a perfect person, with mayas as a good antagonist because of their relationship. while a mymy centric show would feel more like a comedy with subtle hints of seriousness about mymys weird shenanigans with all of the also weird and quirky students. it would not be "ongezellig" but i can see potential.
