NTA but it's a moronic plot device, and whoever came up with the idea should be ashamed.

The notion that one of the most powerful telepaths in that reality could be not only rebuffed, but knocked around like a ragdoll, because someone thought of their safe word is ridiculous.

Xavier could peel most other telepaths' minds like a grape, to say nothing of what he'd do to non-telepaths.

Not surprising, though: Mainstream comics have had virtually no decent writers in the past thirty years.

the Red Triangle defense is actually an EXCELLENT example of Xavier's selflessness and altruism. He taught them specifically how to resist HIM if he ever went rogue. It's like Superman giving Batman the kryptonite ring. If it didn't actually work against the person it was designed to stop, it'd be pointless.

That that fact the storm wank was consistent across the whole line through mutliple writers makes me think it was an editorial call. The promo for her joining the Avengers called her the mightiest mutant, hell even the wording for her being on the Avengers was that it makes no sense for her to be on X-team that she isn't leading. I wouldn't be surprised if the writers agreed to lone her out so that they wouldn't have to write around her being near invincible.

War of Kings used him well. He didn't seem that impressive in Brubaker's stuff as far as powers. The beyond omega description really bothered people.

I think he'd work in a cosmic setting. He'd also be good as an antagonist to Cyclops since they had a relationship in Deadly Genesis and Vulcan looked up to him when he was younger. Hickman had Scott want to involve him in the family more, and be closer to him.

I wonder if they'll do more with him in X Men 97 especially with the Kree Shiar conflicts.

Her one flaw is that she's supposedly claustrophobic, yet it's never an actual problem, it's something she overcomes immediately after mentioning she has it.

I imagine she'll be in crossovers especially with McKay writing Avengers and X Men. Her new tag line is Earth's Mightiest Mutant so she'll be involved with x stuff. They totally ignored the whole idea that Storm has different ethnic traits as established by Claremont and complained she wasn't "black" enough with her straight hair as depicted on some of the covers at the time. And like idiots Marvel got involved in it and X-Men line editor White (I think his name was) started talking to these people and eventually got Dauterman to design a new "official" Storm hair which was curly and "African". This was coincidentally (or not so much) also when Storm got a central role in the storyline.

Saying Claremont Storm was wanked can only mean you never read Claremont Storm. She was introduced as deeply divided, outwardly commanding and fierce but in private fragile. The perfect example is that her room in the X-Mansion was filled with plants that she cared for and she was deeply distraught when she accidentally killed some of them with an emotional weather outburst. Her (in)famous punk phase came about because she realized she had been leaning so hard into her "Untouchable goddess" act that she had forgotten how to be a person, and so she embraced being just Ororo for a while. She had moments when she got to be a badass b***h through the run yes, but she was never this caricature of an omega mutant that she is today. And to be fair that characterization has snowballed since the 2010s for reasons I still don't understand.

He had a fully powered Cyclops lose a fight to depowered Storm even though Cyclops was able to hold his own against the entire team during From the Ashes.

Yes and that is explicitly because Maddie makes Cyke fumble the fight with her nascent Phoenix powers. Did you just not read Inferno or

That was a retcon. Claremont absolutely did not intend Madelyne to be a clone or have any kind of powers. At the time, it was a genuine loss.

            >she looks so much like Jean
            >she looks so so much like Jean it confuses Scott
            >oh no i was just joshing you she's totally normal hahaha
it was stupid and they were right to make her a clone

Claremont intended maddie to BE Jean, reborn one final time. That's why her first memory is walking out of a fire (a plane crash in her memory but in reality the death throes of the Phoenix). It was Claremont's way to evade Jim Shooter's demand they kill Jean off for her genocide on that alien planet.

Funny how editorial stepped in when a hero killed innocents back then given how high innocent bodycounts every marvel character has by now.

That seems like what he was doing but in 2012 he said that nope, that was all misdirection, she was only ever supposed to be a completely normal person https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqemcxM0mJQ
Ignore how she literally had no friends or family or anything that would back up that she didn't just spring into existence in the plane crash that just happened to coincide with Jean's death.

That's a really weird statement because yeah Claremont makes it very clear in the 80s run that Maddie's past is a total mystery with no family or anything, and mastermind looks at her and sees her so close to Jean she could be identical. I dunno why he would say this

Cyclops fans are as tiresome as Storm fans, but let's be honest about what this was, it's not so much a "loss" as it was Storm forcing Cyclops into a position where he risks killing her if he keeps fighting. "Do you want to lead the X-Men so much you'd risk killing one of them for it?" She took advantage of Cyclops not being a dickheel back then, and he surrendered rather than take the risk.

That seems like what he was doing but in 2012 he said that nope, that was all misdirection, she was only ever supposed to be a completely normal person https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqemcxM0mJQ

            >That seems like what he was doing but in 2012 he said that nope
Well he would say that, wouldn't he? He later lost control of the story and the character in a way he's not happy about. Doesn't mean he's telling the truth about what he was originally doing.

Did Monet blow Storm too? Did anyone explain why Monet is now turning into Penance? I liked her in PAD’s run, I read a few comics with her in Krakoa age and was confused. Everything with Madrox since PAD was fricking awful. I read hiss mini, his online first comic and him in X-Corporation and frick Marvel. I feel it’s a humiliation ritual because PAD thought Gypsies throwing their crippled babies at people to steal purses was horrific to witness.

Didn't she start turning into Penance at will during PADs run? I mean in this version of canon she was Penance so it's presumably her secondary mutation or something.

...god the Penance retcon was so fricking stupid

Have you read about Monet's origin in Generation X? I need to ask because I don't want to tell you things you already know.

No I don’t think so I read some issues of it but don’t remember which but know Monet was a hot brown girl and Penace is sharp and silent

Okay strap in because it's moronic.
              >Generation X introduces new class of new-er mutants
              >one of them is Monet St Croix, a girl who pivots hard from super confident c**t with uber powers to super quiet and nearly autistic
              >she gets sent to Banshee and Emma Frosts's new class
              >end of first issue has Penance drop out of a portal on the grounds
              >Penance is weird mute chick with diamond-sharp claws
              >original team's plan for Monet: She's actually two twin sisters who merge into one super-powered body as their power which is why "she" has two extreme personality modes
              >original team's plan for Penance: she's a mutant war orphan from the balkans who was badly traumatized and experimented upon before escaping and getting dropped on the team

              >new creative team roll in
              >they go through with the "Monet is two girls" idea and she splits back into them
              >but they also make Penance into the ORIGINAL Monet who is now the older sister of the twins who decided to take her form after she vanished
              >Penance gets complete personality overhaul when she's "cured" and goes from quiet, naive, kind girl to turboc**t Monet
              >the twins merge into a new Penance because i guess you always need one???
              >Monet just continues with the team as if she'd always been there

              then later:
              >team find a way to cure the twins of being Penance but this somehow creates an independent Penance body which runs off
              >this Penance is later called Hollow and is on the loners

That's basically the lore until the 2000s.

I'm sorry but I just hate Emma as a hero. I know it's been a long time but being a stuck up b***h is her only character trait. Just make her evil again, or have her separate from the X-Men and make a new freedom force working for the CIA or give her a hellions book or something
