This show would have done better on literally any other streaming service than Crunchyroll. If this had been on Netflix or even Hulu it would have done a lot better. I would have really liked a season 2.
Yeah, similar to Batman Ninja where they let Japan make a Batman movie. Though this is an actual AU rather than Batman and friends time-travelling to Feudal Japan.
Earlier Netflix, that is. Current Netflix is a complete shit show. HBO Max wouldn't be a bad choice, either. They're doing that Aztec Batman movie.
It would have as much chance of getting a second season if it had been on Netflix as Seis Manos or Blood of Zeus have.
Americans just aren't ready for the idea of an adult cartoon that isn't a comedy full of sex and shit jokes.
Their culture would be under constant subversion and undermining like every other modern unconquered nation. All the show would be about how the aztecs and mayans were mean to other mesoamerican peoples and there would be pointless inaccurate minorities scattered around.
Trying to figure that out now. Contractually it was a small number of years, I'm trying to figure out if it was from when the show was picked up or from when the show aired.
I hope it isn't for too long, or at they're willing to part with the rights at a low cost. I know Dreamworks did that sometimes with IPs they never used. Disney, on the other hand, loves to hoard.
I'd actually really like to go indie with it. Networks and studios are a shitshow right now. I worked on Hazbin Hotel and Helluvaboss and I'm pretty inspired by Viv's method of releasing one episode at a time. I'd like to incorporate and join the animation union first though, I think we can come up with the resources, maybe crowdfund a little.
I know you are contractually not allowed to reveal anything, but I am curious say the license expires in two years. Does that mean the creator(Sofia) owns the right to all the pre-existing episodes and can put them again for access on any other platform like say youtube or patreon or whatever? In case this question asks anything confidential feel free to just ignore that part. It's just I am a little confused by how the rights work under Crunchyroll.

I'd be surprised if she personally owned the rights. Those usually belong to the company.

I’m pretty sure CR would still own the rights to those episodes Sofia would just own anything afterwards. Kind of how Netflix owns the rights to season 1 of Tuca & Bertie while WB owns the rest.

Nah, she wouldn't own the already created episodes, just the IP.
don't they own the shit for like 70 years?

Netflix would have probably cancel this in favor of Big Mouth Season 13 or something

Viv's situation is very particular though, because not everyone can manage to build an audience as big as her to get enough money to produce a show
I'm not sure Onyx Equinox would have the capacity to pull that much money for example
I've been supporting Betsy Lee and from what I can tell her revenues have been stagnating for years now, and she will probably never be able to scale up to Viv's quality because of that
No, the 70 years thing is public domain which I don't know about.
Viv's situation is very different. As far as I know, HB can pay for itself because it has such a huge, dedicated audience. We wouldn't be able to fund the whole thing like that, but I'd be interested in getting legit investors. Onyx has a sizable audience in Latin America that would at least be excited to see more. Right now I'm just concerned with putting out something we're proud of. The story is solid, but we need the time and talent to make it great.

I forgot, I finally bought me the dvd/bluray box last week, hype for when it'll cost 500€ in 10 years
yeah that's what I meant, OE can't run on just the fans money
Sadly, I know it's been hard to get investors these days, at least in my country. One of the most promising cartoon of the last 10 years is stuck in development hell because they can't find investors and have to look for scraps here and there

Thanks for buying it anon, it means a lot!
Also, what cartoon are you talking about?

Anon, you introduced me to this show by posting this exact image a few months back. I looked forward to Xanastaku's debut and she 100% lived up to the hype. Now I am left in the same place The Dark Crystal left me, with a single season of an unfinished masterpiece, lacking any sort of conclusion (well I guess The Dark Crystal technically has the movie, but that's so far removed from the show it's really not a conclusion to it). I'm in pain.
It never had a chance. CR's western originals were a bad idea in the first place and the completely poisoned the well by putting High Guardian Spice front and center. This probably would have made it a few seasons if it were on pre-nightmare Netflix or HBO Max.
Never ever.

Okay. This sounds kind of cool. Might give it a watch once pirates get their hands on it.
It would have as much chance of getting a second season if it had been on Netflix as Seis Manos or Blood of Zeus have.

>Seis Manos
The fact that I completely forgot this show existed proves your point I think. But it also wasn't very good from what I remember.
i thought blood of zeus did get a second season ordered
Huh did it? Haven't really heard much about it after it got released.
Not with Discovery purging every show from existence.
Hope they do the same with High Guardian Spice
How popular would this show be in an alternate timeline where Central America never gets conquered and colonized?
Their culture would be under constant subversion and undermining like every other modern unconquered nation. All the show would be about how the aztecs and mayans were mean to other mesoamerican peoples and there would be pointless inaccurate minorities scattered around.
How were the Mayans mean to other cultures. Please elaborate and preferably provide sources.
when the CR's rights to it expire
When do you think that would be?
Trying to figure that out now. Contractually it was a small number of years, I'm trying to figure out if it was from when the show was picked up or from when the show aired.
I hope it isn't for too long, or at they're willing to part with the rights at a low cost. I know Dreamworks did that sometimes with IPs they never used. Disney, on the other hand, loves to hoard.
So after that would have to once again go from network to network trying to get the show picked up.

have a nice day.
I forgive you
Can anyone speculate on Nelli becoming evangelized? Sister Nelli
Why am I getting Boondocks vibe?
Most likely same animation studio. DR Movie and Tiger have worked for ATLA, Castlevania, etc and probably countless other 2D shows.
My waifu
Did CR fix the subtitles on their website? And did they fix the issue where CR literally wouldn't work if I had Adblock turned off?
Rosemary is straight and will end up with. Aster.
An Onyx Thread, I thought these were a thing of the past.

The creator's working at Marvel now so the show seems pretty much dead.
I will finance S2 when I get rich
I would
so is this actually good
nooooo it's horrible dont waaaatch
Anyone have the edit version with the big cheeks?
It's fantastic.
it's an acquired taste.
If you like Mesoamerica you'll definitely love this. But the budget definitely shows at times.
Also when's the OST coming out on Spotify?
no
That is one of the hottest dark skinned girls I have ever seen. Very reminiscent of the old inspector gadget artstyle. .

Nope
Also, this isn't common knowledge but Sofia got invited to Pixelatl this year, so mexiCinemaphile bros go see her if you're gonna be around
very nice!
frick, I actually dropped the show before this qt's introduction. I'll finish the series this weekend.
