Damn. Has he been working out? Those are some pretty surprising muscles

Also, insulting Christians isn't edgy. It's spineless as they are an easy target and there is no reprecussion. He would never say anything about the "other" religions. If you know what I mean ;^)

I find it more weird that people to this day actually believe some israelite was eaten by a whale and lived for 40 years in its stomach, or that another israelite wizard parted the Red Sea and spoke to a burning bush. I wouldn’t doubt if these stories also predated Judaism, some ancient religion people kept changing over time before it became the abrahamic desert trilogy.

AbdurRahman ibn AbuLayla, quoting Usayd ibn Hudayr, a man of the Ansar, said that while he was given to jesting and was talking to the people and making them laugh, the Prophet (ﷺ) poked him under the ribs with a stick. He said: Let me take retaliation. He said: Take retaliation. He said: You are wearing a shirt but I am not. The Prophet (ﷺ) then raised his shirt and the man embraced him and began to kiss his side. Then he said: This is what I wanted, Messenger of Allah!

    Gervais on growing up:

    >I went to church and believed in God -– what a relief for a working-class mother. You see, growing up where I did, mums didn't hope as high as their kids growing up to be doctors; they just hoped their kids didn't go to jail. So bring them up believing in God and they'll be good and law abiding. It's a perfect system. Well, nearly. 75 percent of Americans are God- ‐fearing Christians; 75 percent of prisoners are God- ‐fearing Christians. 10 percent of Americans are atheists; 0.2 percent of prisoners are atheists.

He's right, Christgays are on average stupider and more violent than atheists.

Remember when they did that update of Cosmos a few years ago with black science man and the brilliant mind behind Family Guy and The Orville?

Why did they start out a "documentary" by lying about Giordano Bruno? They literally try to turn him into a sacrificial martyr (pretty ironic) for science and ignore that he was a Dominican friar who converted to a radical sect of Calvinism (during the one of the most politically tumultuous periods of the Reformation) and started preaching stuff about Christianity even crazier than the Mormon's and Kolob (for which he was repeatedly warned by religious/political authorities trying to contain various violent uprisings).

They make it seem like Bruno was killed by evil religious authorities for simply saying the Earth isn't the center of the universe complete with animation which shows him posed like Christ flying through the heavens (kek). Kind of weird they start out a supposedly educational program by flat out rewriting history and try to slander religion by creating a martyr complete with superhuman iconography wherein he's posed like Christ.

            Anonymous

what does "a slave to external factors and stimuli" even mean? literally everything is external factors and stimuli, every single process or thought in your head is the result of an outside force that stems back to a time before you were born.

you are not the conscious author of your thoughts, this would require you to think a thought before you think it. consciousness is simply a rolling chain of reactions. yes, very complex reactions far above the rest of the animal kingdom, but rolling reactions nonetheless. Introducing complexity doesnt make it so that there is a magic man in your head pulling levers or something. Not trying to be smug or snarky i just legitmately dont even understand what you can define free will as. "not being a slave to outside forces" doesnt make any sense.

It sounds to me like you're conflating influences- often very strong ones yes- with uhh idk how could I say it? Definitive outcomes? >But within that we can still choose
the issue here is that you are struggling to define what it even means to "choose"

if you can admit that "choices" are made based on where every particle sits right now, which surely you must agree that you make decisions based on the state of the universe, the state of your own brain included, then it follows that if we were to rewind the clock to the exact moment you "make your decision" why should I believe you would choose any differently? if we reset every particle to where they were the moment you made your decision, you'd make the same decision every single time

if you think you'd somehow make a different one, why? what else is there? magic? not being condescending i just really have no idea what is left

                Anonymous

No I get you. What if you're 50/50 on a course of action, though? You might actually choose one over the other in your scenario.

                Anonymous

the feeling of 50/50 is just that, a feeling. that feeling was predetermined since before you were born as well as the option you end up picking. You will end up "choosing" one over the other but like I had said earlier, if you reset every particle to its exact same position, you'd choose the exact same every time. If you would choose the exact same every time given the exact same state of the universe, that applies to all future "choices" as well. Choice is an illusion. An incredibly strong illusion, but an illusion nonetheless

                Anonymous

The reason this is still an open question is because you can't prove it. Unless we invent time travel and go back to observe the same decision with the same outcome every time, you can't discount the possibility of there being some external element beyond just the state of the universe at that instant influencing your decision. Whether that element is God, free will, or really anything else you can ascribe to it (for example, elements outside of the simulation in sim theory), there is absolutely no way you can prove it one way or another. So right now it just boils down to personal belief.

                Anonymous

not to be stubborn on this point, but you've still yet to define what free will even is. Do you think your brain is capable of bucking the laws of cause and effect? this isnt a matter of proving something one way or the other, im saying your side doesnt exist because it cant even be defined coherently

You've never been unsure of a "choice" to make?

of course ive felt uncertainty, that feeling was predetermined. A series of causes and effects that resulted in a feeling we call uncertainty

if something makes you mad, and you take a deep breath and calm down, none of that was free will. that was a series of cause and effect that your brain reacted upon. The force that caused you to calm down was not some magic lever that was divorced from the laws of cause and effect. A series of dominoes fell that resulted in your brain doing that.

                >i explained a series of causes and effects lead to that moment.
I left that out because it doesn't actually affirm the idea that something is deterministic at a microscopic level. Your sleight of hand here is using a basic understanding of physical materialism while asserting I have to explain why you're wrong in terms of physical materialism.

The fact is that systems can produce emergent phenomena that go beyond the summation of their physical parts. Complex order means that such phenomena cannot be described via standard deterministic equations and I therefore reject your hypothesis that such a system is deterministic if you look closely enough.

if you are arguing for quantum uncertainty then sure, that existe. Gets you no closer to free will however. Im more inclined to believe that is simply another form of determinism that has yet to have its causes and effects mapped out. The alternative is... what exactly?

You're filtered by the arguments being made because they reject the framework you assert one must follow in order to not agree with you. It's not your fault you're disingenuous, most don't realize what you're doing as you repeat the ideas of others, because you're not very intelligent.

                >All you've said is that free will is emergent
Consciousness is an emergent phenomena which means you have to make a clear argument for the (naive) reductionism you're presenting instead of just asserting it.
                >then saying the term is too complex for me
It obviously is. Consciousness is an emergent phenomena at face value and instead of picking up this thread you confused what is meant by "emergence" while reasserting reductionism without further elaboration.

I asked a good-faith question and you decide to counter with a question. That's not how a fair conversation goes. Answer my question then I'll answer yours. I have a response ready but I asked a question first.

It provides a foundation to argue that conscious interaction with one's environment takes place in that the elements of a system could be deterministic, although still not necessarily, and still lead to non-deterministic events (i.e. the limits of predictability with a hint of an argument for novel experience). Also, it betrays the fact that naive reductionism reverts to the idea that if you were more conscious (e.g. in terms of the variables at work) you'd know you were unconscious.

Great, what is an example of a "non-deterministic event"?

It provides a foundation to argue that conscious interaction with one's environment takes place in that the elements of a system could be deterministic, although still not necessarily, and still lead to non-deterministic events (i.e. the limits of predictability with a hint of an argument for novel experience). Also, it betrays the fact that naive reductionism reverts to the idea that if you were more conscious (e.g. in terms of the variables at work) you'd know you were unconscious.

It's mysterious and beyond randomness. If you don't think free will is mysterious and can only attach a label of randomness you haven't thought about this very deeply.

No no one is beyond his reach from what hes said your given one final chance to drop the ego and repent or its oblivion hes not gonna wait on you forever but hes also not gonna watch his kid endlessly fall into the pitt.

            >you can spend your life killing, stealing, sinning, and just saying “I repent haha I was being a real goofball” and all is forgiven
Christianity is by far the most moronic of the 3 israelite worshipping religions.

Your thinking of God as if your interacting with people down here, just say thing and they believe you because we cant read your mind or your heart to see your true intentions to God your being is fully displayed before him the words are just exchanges i imagine he will be looking inside you to truly see what you are and pass judgement off that.

but people are LITERALLY beyond his reach, there is objectively a 1 year old Sentinelese kid who will die without ever being introduced to Christianity. Im not sure how you account for this

What do you not understand? EVERYONE on judgement day will meet him no one will be unaccounted for why are you stuck that if a person dies he cant get to them?
People who follow christianity from how i interpret Jesus's teachings are already sorted because if they truly follow it there actions will show it. EVERYONE else will be given a final chance kid, adults, family, friends etc.
In a more deeper way ive been mulling over for years, as long as you finally relinquish the hate in your heart even on your death bed, at the last millisecond and repent you are a Christian. You following Christianity means attempting to be a good person, with you attempting to be a good person unknowingly have become Christian even if you dont wanna call yourself that. You are now one with Gods mindset and will probably be fine on judgement day why?Because God is good.

Its a misconception that when people die there already in Heaven that we allow for the grieving process to be easier, everyone is asleep in the nicest way i can put it. Theres no Heaven or Hell until the final judgement, everyone reaches Heaven at the same time. You can call it Limbo, First death before the final death if there a horrible person, or just a deep sleep.

everybody heard of Jesus Christ. the whe world counts years from when he came here on Earth to give the free gift of salvation to everyone. given your hypothetical scenario though, you're judged by the contents of your heart (meaning you're basically fricked). get saved

                Romans 10
                >8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, evenin thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.12For there is no difference between the israelite and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I re-read your post and I will re-ask my question because it wasnt answered, are you saying you can simply not believe in god or jesus and be admitted into heaven based on the contents of your heart? what if from birth your heart was poisoned to be full of hatred and destruction and you never had a choice?

                Anonymous

are you being daft on purpose? You asked a question - what if one is not a child anymore and haven't heard of Jesus Christ. I answered everyone heard of Jesus but given someone didn't, they will be judged by the contents of their heart, meaning they are fricked because there is no human being who is righteous and can be saved this way, which is why spreading the gospel is so important. The only way to get saved is through Jesus Christ; if we were to be saved by our works, none of us would be going to Heaven. Thus - get saved

                John 3
                >16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

It's funny that atheists genuinely think their beliefs are not faith-based. Delusional. Agnostics are the only group whose belief or disbelief in a God is not faith-based, but instead conditional. "I don't know" is the only truly rational claim when it comes to the existence of a creator.

Christian charity organizations vastly outweigh all other religious charities combined, and possibly also secular.

You will never be a Christian. You have no faith, no knowledge of the bible or real interest in religious practice. You are a deranged incel larping as a religious person. All the 'validation' you get is from other tradlarpers. Real christians look at you with disgust and consider you a spiteful degenerate freak. You will never be catholic. You wrench out a fake prayer every morning and hope that it somehow triggers and owns the libtards. Eventually the lack of sex will be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. There's nuggets of truth in what you're saying as the overarching infulence of Christianity in European culture is undeniable.
However "copying homework" as you put it is a way expeditious affair when you're neighbours; when Iberia started using the new fancy boats and guns to conquer the world do you think that France and Britain followed suit mainly due to overarching cultural similarities or because they said "Oh shit, our rivals are getting stinking from conquering the world".

Spain and Portugal are both Catholic because they're next to eachother; they competed for spice routes because they're next to eachother.
They didn't get so similar because they had the same state religion, they had the same state religion because they were so similar.

Anon from even my two examples of China and Korea you can bring a country technologically up to our level but if the years of pondering, moral values, fighting for good, helping the weak etc. arent there there society wont prosper in the same way we do. Im not just talking about physical items either. Approaching situations the way we do in 1st world countries is so foreign in other places you have to admit Christianity has had an effect on that.
I believe weve backslid because morons throwing the religion away today but you cant tell me when Christianity was at its peak even just a few decades ago even just day to day interacting shit even just breathing felt better.

We live in a fallen world so no. Watch a Christian kid's movie because it's not that advanced of a concept. Chronicles of Narnia or something. Lion/Witch/Wardrobe.

Yes and atheists are too preoccupied to seethe about the comparatively non-fallen Christian part of the population because everything else is hunky dory.

Whites can be profoundly barbaric without a guiding hand of moral and reason. Not to mention incestuous.

Estonians aren't white so it's not just whiteness. It's the moral values passed down through Christianity. You wouldn't want to go back to the dark ages no matter how much you delude yourself into thinking that.

No moron, I define it as behavior that the Bible is against. That you want an excuse to pillage, kill and rape despite your lack of physical prowess is not something Christianity has a fault in. You wouldn't be able to live that kind of lifestyle among atheists either because humanity moved past that point.

The 2 centuries of pagan Pax Romana were considerable more peaceful than all of Christian Europe up until WWII nearly killed everyone. Christian Europe was at literal constant war with each other.

so give it to me straight- is he an atheist or not?

I actually saw him last week. He sounded like a Christian, but at the same time I feel like he's become one and just refuses to openly state it so he can differentiate himself from a preacher for branding purposes. But maybe he is still in the "God isn't literally real but is an idea that is crucial for civilization to function" phase.

It's fine, this is all just a filtering process to find beings with free will, that God can trust in his kingdom.
If you deny Christ's very simple teachings of "respect one another" then you are clearly a corrupted being and don't belong.

What I don't get is why atheists focus so much on Christianity over actual issues that plague society, as if Christianity is preaching that you have to be a bad person.
What's even funnier is that it's always Christianity which is the problem and never any other religion.
