    Matte is there for a reason, esp. with a director like kubrick who wanted everything framed as he saw it. Unless you want to see boom mics and Jennifer Aniston's nips there's no reason to watch open matte

      Kubrick filmed it with 4:3 in mind. I think the idea was to make it have the same ratio as the hotel hallways.
