It had some nice cuts, and the CG is getting pretty good. Still feels like Anno is copying himself while copying others which is meh. It's hard to tell what is a nod to the past and what is just normal JP hammy character acting.
シン・ウルトラマン himself looks great. The head size and overall aesthetics of the face sculpt are very nice.
In this universe, naturally Ultraman doesn't have red colorscheme. Zoffy has black and gold colors. Ultraman naturally just look like that, full silver. He only have red colors after he accidently made the protagonist died in his battle with a kaiju, and had to use a large portion of his power to revive the protag.
IRL, its a reference to how Ultraman would have appeared in Ultra Q
>IRL, its a reference to how Ultraman would have appeared in Ultra Q
Is that confirmed? This made me think it might be a reference to the "Birth of Ultraman" pilot stage-play thing they aired a week before Episode 1, which was also broadcasted in black and white.

It ties in well with how that part of him changes color when he's low on energy, too. It makes sense. What makes less sense is why his face changes, but hey. It's neat.
Oh his wrinkled face in the intro fight is just a reference to how Ultraman suit in the classic show was in poor condition most of the time. His face was especially ugly back then.
I know what it's a reference to. I'm saying that unlike the color stuff which they thoughtfully worked into the story there doesn't seem to be any narrative justification for the change in his face.

Shin Godzilla had a bigger world wide release compares to Shin Ultraman. Also, the hype is not as big as Shin Godzilla because Ultraman is a yearly fastfood, meanwhile Shin Godzilla was the newest theatrical Godzilla movie from Toho after 12 years. Just like how Universal Century returned with Gundam Unicorn and Hatthaway, the hype is much bigger when something being absent for too long suddenly returning.
i'm dissapointed, it doesn't look like a high budget film, there is not even a sense of being in front of a giant, and a fricking walking slowly scene? not impressed.
I know you are a Cinemaphile shitposter but no, it's not necessarily a good thing, even though talking about "low budget" in function of a Japanese production is pointless since the Japanese industry and the burger industry are two completely separate and different topics.
My point was that high production value =/= high budget and that only amerilards and Cinemaphile shitposters think their taste is too elevated for anything made outside hollyweird with 2 billion dollar budgets (70% spent on coke and marketing).

Ultraman has never had anywhere near Godzilla level box office, so it makes sense the budget here wasn't as big. The cg still looks way better than what you'd get from standard Ultraman movies/tv series, which is probably why people here can't get your complaint.

i just think is sad that people are so used to low effort shit that any kind of ""improvement"" is welcomed as the second coming of jesus.
Jurassic Park is a 20 years old film, looks dated and cheap by modern standards, and still looks better than this.

don't be disingenuous, we're specifically talking about the cg in that scene, the set piece doesn't solely consist of that. theres roughly 40~ seconds of cg in that scene, most of it in medium shots where you can barely focus on the textures. the rest of the time the raptors are entirely physical. the movie doesn't look "cheap" at all by 'modern standards.'

So, TsuPro gave Shin about 800 to 900 million Yen budget which is about a half of Shin Godzilla's but bigger than all of the other Ultra movies.
