I felt like they never really figured out what to do with the character. He was always just kinda there, while the rest of the cast had their own arcs and stories. When they sent him to live with the morlocks it felt like the writers gave up because they never gave him any interesting conflicts or motivations.
Apparently, they did wrote him out because, other than his relationship to Storm and his skateboarding, they couldn't think of anything to do with him.
It basically got an ending but Xavier teases Magneto joining them/Phoenix/Days of Futures Past/shows off older versions of the cast being X Men and stuff and a season 5 was planned but it got an ending.
The ending was basically the team becoming similar to the 90's show anyway.
Even though it doesn't actually work as a prequel, as a kid I always saw Evolution as effectively coming before the 90's show. Like this is the gist of what happened before that series, and the 90's show would be similar to future of evolution.
is that really difficult to do though? they barely ever get respect anyway, and avalanche barely shows up to begin with. this is the only adaptation i can think of where they're actually treated with some respect, even if it's because they show up so frequently
