Those aren't the same.
They kind of are. It's possible to like a film based on a single component such as a given actor's performance. This is especially true in cases like, say, Phone Booth or Buried where that pretty much IS the film.
Liking a movie because an actor gave a good performance =/= liking a movie because you pity him.
