It has beautiful animation, yet the story is empty/dull/predictable and the characters are too basic/black & white. Same goes for the next animated film by that Warner Bros division. Iron Giant does have better dialogue/humor tho.
>Hogarth and Annie Hughes, Dean McCoppin, Kent Mansley, General Rogard
These characters are too simplistic. Bird's writing got better after joining Pixar (Bob and Violet are more three dimensional than all of those)
>What is it about American animation and non-human mouth kissing? >Beauty and the Beast >Aladdin >Pocahontas >Hunchback >Hercules >Tarzan
Have you never seen a Disney Movie?
Bird should've fleshed out the characters of Hogarth, Dean and Annie more. They are likeable, yet too simplistic. As much as Bird probably looks down on the Shrek films, Shrek, Fiona and Donkey were more fleshed out in the first film than those Iron Giant characters.
Bird could've done better with the character writing. He settles in making them likeable and talk in a realistic way. Doesn't go any further. It isn't enough for me.
In what sense?
It was a commercial flop and only remembered for the memes and in niche animation communities.
>Superman...
Literal masterpiece. have a nice day and everyone you know.
Look man, i get that you worship Bird because he later made The Incredibles at Pixar, but this WB film isn't on the same level.
Imagine how attractive this dork will be when he grows up
He's getting drafted and he's gonna come back from Vietnam either dead or wishing he was.
The Giant will make a crater out of North Vietnam.

Osmosis Jones is great and I will die on this hill
>but it's got gross-out hum-
BODIES ARE GROSS YOU PUSSIES
>PUSSY IS GROSS
Fixed
What does PUSSY taste like bros? Asking for a friend.
>first 8 seasons of the simpsons (aka the good ones)
>the iron giant
>the incredibles
>ratatouille
Every Brad Bird worked on was amazing.
You're giving Bird too much credit for early Simpsons.
OP here, sorry I posted wrong pic, this is the pic related one with this thread

To be honest, i enjoy the first half. It's entertaining. But the film goes downhill in the second half. Deer scene is the turning point for me.
I can see why John K was critical of this character design/facial expressions style.
The Incredibles was such an improvement for Bird. For starters, it actually has romance.
This was the first mouth kiss in Pixar's history. Bug's Life, Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc only had cheek kisses.
Is this the closest thing America has to a Ghibli film?
What is it about American animation and non-human mouth kissing? The first Puss in Boots movie also refused to show it directly.
>Is this the closest thing America has to a Ghibli film?
The Hawaii stuff in Lilo & Stitch feels more Ghibli than this.

Why did Hogarth and Annie have a barn next to their house?

I would understand the praise and respect for this film if it wasn't for the last scene. Giant shouldn't have survived the explosion.
